How to actually get authorities to take action on benefit frauds

Examples reported and nothing done -

  • someone taking cash in hand for dogs - evidence sent online of cash only sales and also including social media showing lifestyle and purchase
  • someone who is lying that they are single having a partner living at their government address with ring footage available that they live their permanently - also taking cash in hand jobs - evident on footage
  • someone putting their SAHM wife on payroll to reduce income claimed - no work done for the business

These are only 2 of many and nothing is done, I am sick to death of it.

abusive and antisocial behaviour - they have sworn at other neighbours making threats, not us (yet)

my house is on the end with an L shape so the ring door covers the next 2 house front door very clearly. I have been encouraged to keep this footage and keep submitting.

the housing company confirmed the partner is not on the tenancy when trying to bring up a complaint against them breaching their contract.

not sure why people are saying I need to get a life etc - I want to be able to relax and be unbothered - impossible with these fraudsters.

You clearly have a bit too much time on your hands. You can relax and be unbothered. It’s called focusing on your own business. Get a job working in benefit fraud investigation if it bothers you this much, or I dunno…a life?

Wife as director is very common, it's half her business. Its not benefit fraud as not claiming benefit

Edited

Only permitted if they actually work in the business - set hours, specific tasks, qualified to hold the role. You can just get paid from the business because your DH is the owner.

Yet another benefits bashing thread, complete with the usual ‘my cousin’s wife’s neighbour drives a Mercedes and goes on several luxury holidays a year’ shite that is always trotted out on these mean spirited threads.

Yes, they are weekly threads. 🙄

Ok, your ring doorbell shows their visitors. Good. But if these visitors are buying dogs, how does your ring doorbell tell you whether tax is being paid or whether benefit fraud is a factor?

I know Ring doorbells are pretty good, but they are not that bloody clever. 🙄🙄🙄🤷‍♀️

You really would be best just jogging on with your own life. 🙄

They are just humouring you, because they know if you keep the footage and keep peeping through the curtains, then in your mind you are part of an important investigation. It's mainly said to shut people up and keep them busy. You're going to be on the neighbourhoods most hated if you're not careful.

Boomer55 · 25/01/2026 13:04

I’ve worked in benefit fraud and I’ve worked in housing. People that keep sending in “evidence” of nothing, while conflating personal views of the neighbours, are viewed as people to just be pacified and ignored.

Ring doorbells show visitors - not their benefit/tax status. 🤷‍♀️

Your main issue is with antisocial behaviour then, not benefits. You should focus your energies on that properly rather than ending up engaging in what could end up being called harassment.

This. Constant uploading of meaningless doorbell footage will go nowhere. .

Happyher · 25/01/2026 19:24

Your ring doorbell footage will be dismissed as its covert surveillance

StMarie4me · 25/01/2026 19:35

Someone reported my friend to PIP. They gathered photos of him in IKEA. He had a walking aid and a full time carer with him that he paid with the PIP. But they didn’t put that in the report. So they took it all off him and he owes them £5k. Whilst they were deciding all that, he had a stroke last July, which has disabled him further. He’s had no PIP, so for 6 months, no PIP, lives alone, income of £750pcm. Can’t walk. Can’t get upstairs for a shower. Can’t make food. 6 fucking months.
Mind your own business. People like you think they’re doing good but they wreck lives.

I’m sick to death of busy bodies.

I'm amazed all the people you know on benefits have dropped this evidence through your door, but if you say so, then it must be true.

They haven’t dropped any evidence through my door! They are completely open about it because they know the likelihood of being caught is so small! They get reported and they simply deny it and carry on as before, no investigation or surveillance at all!

Probably because people are making reports based what they overhear or what someone said.

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/01/2026 02:20

I think the OP may have a reputation for Malicious reporting at this point.

Its only impossible because you've become disturbingly obsessed with it.

In a way you are correct i dont 100% know. However considering the ways that the people i know who commit benefit fraud are doing it, an investigation or surveillance would most likely have caught them out! I know people who pretend to be single while living with a full time working partner, people who exaggerate health conditions to claim pip, people who work cash in hand while claiming to be to ill/ disabled to work and people who are self employed who do lots of work cash in hand and don’t declare their full earnings to universal credit. So any sort of in depth investigation or surveillance would have definitely caught them out!

People like you OP need to go and live in the countryside with no neighbours.

You have no idea of anyone’s circumstances! My cousin was reported for benefit fraud because the sane nan was seen coming in and out of his property in the morning and evening. It was his bloody carer!

You have handed over your evidence, now leave your neighbours alone. Have you mentioned the benefit fraud to the neighbours?

I had this years ago

I lived next door to a woman id gone to school with and she was a nasty bitch then

Every bloody month or so,she'd report me (single mum,not earning mega bucks and was on a small amount of benefit)

They did come out everytime and every time, they found i was doing nothing wrong

One day they showed up and had photos of two men, both coming in,staying for 5/10 minutes before leaving-about 2 hours apart

One was dressed like a tramp and the other in full motorbike leathers

Both where my father-hed nipped round to drop some milk off, dressed as he normally dressed and had nipped back (cant remember why) on his way to work on his motorbike

This silly cow took it to mean they here different men and I was raking it in as a sex worker (even though it was the school holidays and I had the kids at home)

Some people just need to get their facts straight before they report someone

And this kind of thing needs proper dealing with.

Recoding people on their own doorstep is ridiculous and it being so socially acceptable atm is very bizarre.

There's no chance anyone official anywhere has "encouraged" you to keep recording where you shouldn't be recording - it's absolutely unusable for them

Exactly. When I had CCTV cameras installed I had my local police check the span, and they insisted on certain parts of neighbouring property not being in the recording range.

You dont go in shops or restuareants either i guess then

Surprised the housing told you that someone wasnt on a tenancy. Surely thats some kind of data breach?

Happyjoe · 24/01/2026 09:17

Is this how much difference it is? Wow! My next door neighbour with a kid has a partner (the dad) living with her but he isn't listed on the property. The council are aware and don't care, weirdly. So is they committing fraud?

Edited

Depends if they aee claiming benefits as single people or not. People are allowed to live in properties without being named tenants you know
