How to actually get authorities to take action on benefit frauds

Examples reported and nothing done -

  • someone taking cash in hand for dogs - evidence sent online of cash only sales and also including social media showing lifestyle and purchase
  • someone who is lying that they are single having a partner living at their government address with ring footage available that they live their permanently - also taking cash in hand jobs - evident on footage
  • someone putting their SAHM wife on payroll to reduce income claimed - no work done for the business

These are only 2 of many and nothing is done, I am sick to death of it.

Why don’t you mind your own business?

Itsmetheflamingo · 23/01/2026 21:51

How do you know nothing is done?

PersephoneSmith · 23/01/2026 21:53

What’s a government address?

Nevermind17 · 23/01/2026 21:54

What’s your ‘Professional Busybody’ salary?

Why don’t you mind your own business?

It is her business.

She is paying for it.

CypressGrove · 23/01/2026 21:56

How do you know these details? Whose ring footage? What do you mean about evidence sent online? Is all this information coming to you as part of your job - surely your manager can give better advice than we can.

OonaStubbs · 23/01/2026 21:56

Benefits fraud is everyone's business.

lazyarse123 · 23/01/2026 21:57

Are the pp telling the op to mind her own business the same people who complain about how high the welfare bill is?

Hattieandcake · 23/01/2026 21:58

Not my job, in my life. How is it not my business ????

For all the ITS ALL OUR BUSINESS ones you do realise it’s fine to get paid in cash? Imagine emailing HMRC to tell them a dog walker is being paid by cash with CASH INVOICES and EVIDENCE OF LIFESTYLE ON INSTA

and that these could be currently under investigating, or already investigated and OP would never know?

Newnest58 · 23/01/2026 22:01

A SAHM wife can be a partner in the company.

but is this an ex by any chance?

They probably are taking this seriously but won’t be keeping you updated on their progress.

I know of one coupe fined £9k for doing your second point. They are now living on a joint benefit rather than two individual claims.

Maybe the SAHM is actually WFH for her husband’s company - admin role etc…

ChefsKisser · 23/01/2026 22:02

Benefits fraud is so rife it’s ridiculous. I see loads of people claiming fraudulently in my line of work. I wouldn’t bother reporting and it’s not appropriate but it is frustrating as someone on a crap salary seeing it day in day out.

I think it’s selling dogs rather than walking dogs - so big bucks!

You’re still allowed to accept cash

bowda · 23/01/2026 22:08

I don’t understand the cash for dog thing.

Lying about being single, how long ago did you report because it can take absolutely months for an investigation to be completed. Evidence is gathered long term, they don’t just look at a neighbours ring door bell footage.

Actupfishy · 23/01/2026 22:08

Mind your own business

SoSoLong · 23/01/2026 22:10

They won't do much as that will bring to light how rife benefit fraud really is and they'll be forced to do actually do something about it.

I pay for most things with cash. That does not mean the person or company I am paying is committing fraud.

When you report potential fraud, you don't get told the outcome.

Personally, I think the people who report fraud, and it is found none has happened, should be fined.

Hattieandcake · 23/01/2026 22:12

The person is accepting cash only
for dogs so as not to declare income to accept the full benefits.

ring doorbell I have submitted evidence over last 2yrs.

[email protected]

Middletoleft · 23/01/2026 22:13

Having family members on the company payroll is quite common.

You do realise that it'll all go through HMRC so will be taxed accordingly but also will be balanced off against other benefits.

UserFront242 · 23/01/2026 22:14

Why is your ring doorbell recording other people's private property?

Hattieandcake · 23/01/2026 22:14

The SAHM openly says she’s on the payroll
to bring down tax costs, just can’t believe people
can commit fraud in plain sight with no consequences it’s just so depressing.

OP posts:
Dollymylove · 23/01/2026 22:17

How do you know that the fraud department are not putting cases together to catch these people? They wont just bang on the door, they need to collect evidence
