How to actually get authorities to take action on benefit frauds

Hattieandcake · 23/01/2026 21:49

Examples reported and nothing done -

  • someone taking cash in hand for dogs - evidence sent online of cash only sales and also including social media showing lifestyle and purchase
  • someone who is lying that they are single having a partner living at their government address with ring footage available that they live their permanently - also taking cash in hand jobs - evident on footage
  • someone putting their SAHM wife on payroll to reduce income claimed - no work done for the business

These are only 2 of many and nothing is done, I am sick to death of it.

How do you know they can work?
If they have been assessed as fit for work, then they will be under pressure from the Job Centre to apply for work, or they will get their money stopped.

Well four family members have managed to get to 50 and not work. They claim benefits.

Spot the fellow benefit cheat. 😕

What a hilarious and intelligent comment! You’re so clever and we all believe you are really good at identifying benefits cheats on random internet forums. Yes we do! You can get the email address from OP

How do you know they are claiming fraudulently?
Have you reported them? If not, and you think they are committing fraud, then you are also part of the problem.

But it sounds like you know nothing about how UC works, and just wanted to bitch on here.

It is her business.

She is paying for it.

Me too. I also know that the examples she gives are not examples of benefit fraud. She’s reporting her ring camera evidence. Far too invested in peoples lives with no idea of the background.

Hattieandcake · 23/01/2026 22:24

Yes - but due to working all hours don’t get the chance unlike those who are fraudulent ….

But you've enough time to monitor the comings and goings at your neighbours house and somehow figure out what income people are declaring and what benefits they are claiming? You have the time to report this too and continue your monitoring whilst waiting for something to be done?

How though? What reason have they given HMRC for the last 34 years for not working? What benefits do they get? You get next to nothing for unemployment

I bet she has Post It notes on all her walls, with red string between them all. Saying the times her neighbour has left the house, let her partner in, how long he stays, when he brings a takeaway.

Keroppi · 23/01/2026 22:37

I honestly think they don't care unless it's very easy to catch, same as police etc

How can you say that lying about being a single
Mother to get a council property is not benefit fraud ?? Then claiming the max benefits and also having your partner take extras on cash in hand !? There will be genuine single women victims of abuse etc waiting longer due to these people just getting away with it.

the ring footage is available as these people are on my
doorstep. I haven’t sought it out !!!!

Can your ring doorbell read her bank statements? How do you know what benefits she is claiming?

Totally agree - had sit down meetings with the housing company who say what do you want us to do basically. Sickening.

Are you 12? It's way past your bedtime.

She tells the community - full UC PIP and the works. Too tired to work but ok for all other social activities. I’m knakkard due to working all hours.

got the government to do anything please shout !

So many apologists who are in denial at what is going on all the time but they either don't see it, choose not to see it or don't care.

You would sleep better if you were not so invested in your neighbour.

The person is accepting cash only
for dogs so as not to declare income to accept the full benefits.

ring doorbell I have submitted evidence over last 2yrs.

So you're spying on who comes and goes to your neighbours house? Ew.

They wouldn’t see it as fraud and maybe the DWP wouldn’t either.

But I’ve never understood just how they’ve managed it.

One’s an alcoholic so his life is now paid for.
Three had children and were housed and given benefits but always seemed to be excused from working, 2 of which then proceeded on the carers route. These three have moved out of the UK now, so it’s no longer our problem.

Nothing to report, just baffles me!

Pleasepleasepleaseletmesleeep · 23/01/2026 22:46

A neighbour is unlikely to tell you their full story or circumstances. The neighbour may have been investigated or maybe they are claiming legitimately.

Surely the last one would be reported to HMRC rather than benefits? They can't be on the payroll and claiming to be a SAHM as the DWP would see the income. I doubt the husband is going to be keeping you updated on his tax affairs.

It’s odd that they would if they’re being fraudulent

@Keroppi there was a Bulgarian trio who managed to get something like 52mill in benefits fraudulently & authorities only found out after a tip off from suspicious Bulgarian police contacted UK government to report a load of new cars & flash houses being built. I think they recovered only 1mill so far.

Mind your own business

It’s everyone’s business if we’re paying for it.

RudolphTheReindeer · 23/01/2026 22:49

How do you know they haven't done anything? They won't tell you if they have.

How likely is it a neighbour would tell you they've been done for benefit fraud? Likely 0%

you sound a bit stalkery having all this ring doorbell footage of them which you must go through and analyse then email off somewhere. It's not healthy.
