Help us solve a family debate!! If you don’t serve chips what is the best side dish for a quiche?

Salad is the only thing I’d put with a quiche

CrowsInMyGarden · 24/01/2026 18:22

Chips and salad

HappiestSleeping · 24/01/2026 18:23

Depending on the type of quiche, I would go for a side of sausages, baked beans and chips.

hattie43 · 24/01/2026 18:26

Salad , chips and coleslaw

Dawnb19 · 24/01/2026 18:27

My favourite meal at school was quiche, beans and chips. 🤣 Although that's probably banned now.

I would eat chips with quiche. My local café also serves it with a hand full of chips and salad.

mathanxiety · 24/01/2026 18:30

I've never eaten anything but a tossed green salad with quiche.

I'm raising my eyebrows at quite a lot of the suggestions here.

Trishyb10 · 24/01/2026 18:31

Depends where you live, chips all the way if you live in the north east,or mash n beans

Good grief, how thick are you making your pastry crust if it accounts for a third of the meal?!

One third is a limit, not a target.

Why? I can’t think of anything more revolting to have with a quiche than a green salad but I’m not raising my eyebrows and people who want to eat things like that. 😆😆

Good grief. ‘Quite rich’? It’s a quiche, not a chocolate fudge cake.

OP, of course you can serve chips with a quiche Lorraine. It’s eggs, cheese and bacon. These are all things that go well with any form of potato, and chips will add a nice texture contrast.

If I was serving a quiche I’d usually serve it with chips and salad. No coleslaw for me because I loathe it, but I can see a lot of people seem to get excited about it.

Chips, quiche, and coleslaw was a staple lunch at my Comprehensive school, circa 1973. Certainly I always looked forward to it!
If I were eating quiche now (and Jerseys weren't around) I’d deffo still have chips with it.

At uni, still in the 1970s, I absorbed a habit of serving a dollop of mashed chickpeas or Puy lentils alongside any quichey thing (anything slopped into a scant pastry base was a handy meal to cook in a large shared house).
I served this to my parents once, when I was home for a Summer visit, and my poor dad hadn't any idea what the alarming gloop might be, nor what to do with it. He avoided quiche after that, for fear of encountering the stuff again.

Marmite27 · 24/01/2026 18:34

I only eat quiche Lorraine and I do that with beans!

Flomingho · 24/01/2026 18:35

Usually salad or vegetables. I would personally find it a bit stodgy having chips with the pastry.

DeltaVariant · 24/01/2026 18:35

Chips, quiche and some salad? Retro really but a super tasty classic!

dontforgetme · 24/01/2026 18:35

Salad and spicy rice in this house.

Buttercup1976 · 24/01/2026 18:42

Potato salad

1DinosaurAnd3Giraffes · 24/01/2026 18:47

Eh?
Is everyone out here having Quiche for a meal and not just as a small wedge from a buffet at a party?

Are you telling me Quiche is not just a party food?

Greenfingersofderby · 24/01/2026 18:58

Yes, have it most weeks for dinner. Homemade spinach and feta quiche, baked spud, salad. Delicious.

SkinnyLatteExtraHotPlease · 24/01/2026 19:33

Whatever you want, no rules, serve the chips, life too damn short 😋

billiongulls · 24/01/2026 19:35

BusyExpert · 24/01/2026 06:12

Salad. Why on earth would you want to add carbs?

Because carbs are delicious, and the thin pastry case in a quiche isn't enough carbs? Obviously.

Squeakydogtoy · 24/01/2026 19:38

Baby new potatoes and baked beans , is what I have with a quiche, with a sprinkle of grated cheese

ProfessionalPirate · 24/01/2026 19:55

One third is a limit, not a target.

Says who? Certainly not the pp that I was replying to.

Theworldisfloating · 24/01/2026 20:02

As a vegetarian I would just be having cheeses and onion quiche. But it’s one of my favourite meals.
Because I normally have it for my tea, quiche with chips/ proper new potatoes. With salad in summer/ autumn winter lots of different vegetables ( anything) . Or if just wanting comfort chips and beans.
If feeling lazy I make a pastry less quiche or an impossible pie.

RawBloomers · 24/01/2026 20:14

Depends what you like, but a pastry dish with chips is far too carb heavy for me. However, if you’re serving a crowd or tend towards a carb heavy diet, it’s fine. If I were serving a bigger group I’d do chips (or new potatoes, braised lentils if a particularly health conscious crowd) and salad.

Baked beans are lovely with quiche, but I would still want some sort of veg that wasn’t pulses and many want a healthier option especially if you’ve got pastry and chips as the other bits of the meal.
