Women and anyone with a cervix

Women and anyone with a cervix is written in my weekly magazine. What absolute rubbish is this? It gives me the rage.

Seems okay to me? Mostly it will be women who have a cervix but a small number of trans men might also. I think the language is fine so long as it states women first.

But not all women have a cervix.

She is a woman. Nobody actually believes she is a man.

Surely anyone with a cervix is the logical thing to say. Saying women need cervical screening is including those of us who no longer have a cervix.

Well , and there was me trying to be equitable and generous and acknowledge that sex based health issues apply to both sexes.

Next time I will just leave people to wallow and die in the pit of their own ignorance and unreasonable prejudice.

You probably have walked past many trans men and women and not had a clue they are trans. Nor should you as it really is none of your business.

Of course it's nonsense. You cannot change sex.

If you have a cervix, you are a woman. End of.

Men don’t have a cervix, no matter how much oestrogen they take, or how big their breast implants are. And women can’t become men even if they have a mastectomy and no matter how much testosterone they take.

Whilst there are women who don’t have a cervix anyone with a cervix is a woman.

Is that clear enough?

One of the problems with that is women for whom English is not the first language may not understand that applies to them and also women with low cognitive ability may not know it applies to them either.

The word woman is universally understood and changing the messaging in the way you suggest could mean that minority groups miss out on important health screening.

Most people who are offended by the use of the word woman used in this context are genderists. Trans men know they are woman and should seek out the appropriate healthcare.

But that isn't the problem. I don't care what anyone looks like, but object to a man or woman expecting me to believe that it's possible for them to change sex.

I mean, I disagree. But even if a woman dressed as a man walked past me and I didn’t notice she was a woman, it still does not make her a man.

She is, and always will be, a woman.

And I have walked past trans identifying women and clocked them as TIW in an instant. Who cares. This thread is about the importance of using clear language when talking about health issues especially those particular health issues which only apply to either men or women.

Exactly, it's crucial in healthcare to be clear.

I find being referred to as a “person with a cervix” deeply offensive and “misgendering”.

In order to have a cervix that is essential. I find it mind boggling that having delusions regarding her sex makes a woman incapable of understanding that if women need a smear test that includes them! Yet they say it's not mental illness!!!

Your “boyfriend” doesn’t have a cervix, your girlfriend who identifies as a man has a cervix. Only females have a cervix.
