How many times do you use your towel before washing it?

I use a pajama once, then wash it. Does everyone do the same?

With towels, I use maybe twice or three times, But I'm not really sure if it shouldn't be this way?

I could never cope with the amount of washing everyone else on this thread does! My timeframe for washing towels and bedding is measured in months, not days/ number of uses 🙈

Agree deffo

Bedding probably once a month.

Towels? Don't know - when I think of it.

Add to that - I don't care if it's 'slovenly'. It is what it is - 5 people in this house and more than enough washing to do.

leaflikebrew · 19/01/2026 05:30

Thank goodness no one wears pyjamas in our house as they seem to need even more washing!!

SouthernNights59 · 19/01/2026 05:48

Towels and pjs get washed once a week. I don't know anyone who washes things as often as some MNers do, it seems a waste of resources to me.

Do you not find they feel different? I have bath every day and after 2-3 days the bath towel feels dirty, despite it drying a clean body. Dead skin I presume?!

I sometimes leave towels a couple of weeks before washing, they feel no more dirty than they did on the first day.

All clothes, pj's and towels get worn/used once then washed.

Utter madness!!!

eroberts77 · 19/01/2026 05:57

PJs every day or so, towels every day. I never used to wash my towel every day but we moved to SE Asia and it’s humid and I just now like a dry towel every evening.

Ilovemyshed · 19/01/2026 06:01

Towels and mats weekly. Bedding weekly. Don’t wear nightwear.

PandorasSockBox · 19/01/2026 06:09

Whispers very quietly, that I don't use a towel, but wrap up in a towelling bathrobe, which probably gets washed once a month. Nighclothes get washed once a week and bedclothes once a fortnight.
I am not dirty, but think that is enough, especially if you consider energy and environmental factors.

Olive42 · 19/01/2026 06:10

Towels washed weekly so after 7 uses, dried after shower on heated towel rail.
Bedding, once per fortnight.

Boredoflunch1 · 19/01/2026 06:12

I don't understand the logic behind washing kids pj's more than adults. Kids tend to be less sweaty.

TheBlueKoala · 19/01/2026 06:13

Me: towel appr. 3/4 days. Pyjamas the same. For DC the same.
Dh: one week for both (he says it's for the environment but I know it's about the 🤑)

TheBlueKoala · 19/01/2026 06:14

Oh and bedding 2-3 weeks. It's such a pain.😅

tuvamoodyson · 19/01/2026 06:19

Pyjamas are washed after 3 wears, I use my bath towels twice, after morning shower and evening bath, then they’re put in the laundry basket for washing. I do laundry 2/3 times a week (2 adults)

Boomer55 · 19/01/2026 06:22

Both daily.

pintofpkss · 19/01/2026 06:23

wear Pjs 2 nights then change. We all have our own towel so use for about a week then wash

Carolenarua · 19/01/2026 06:24

vintedandminted · 19/01/2026 01:26

All clothes, pj's and towels get worn/used once then washed.

Really, what a waste of energy and money ! Bad for clothes too! Fair enough for underwear and a top touching skin but otherwise crazy. Wow

Neurodiversemom · 19/01/2026 06:26

Pyjamas everyday. Towel twice or thrice.

Ieswe · 19/01/2026 06:34

Pyjamas after two or three wears
Towels once a week (we each have our own and it’s hung up after use)
Handtowels every 2-3 days
Teatowels and kitchen cloths changed daily
Bedding every other week which I actually hate. Used to do it weekly but with six of us I find we have so much laundry and I couldn’t keep up with getting it all dry so now I do our bed and the two younger kids’ one week and then the two adult kids’ beds the next. We all shower before bed so get into it clean but it still feels too long.

landlordhell · 19/01/2026 06:50

Hand towels weekly, bath towels maybe longer. Hand towels are shared , bath towels are individual. Maybe bath towels are two weeks. I keep them on a heated towel rail and they fully dry between uses.
Tea towels weekly, dish cloths daily. I don’t wear PJs.
Bedding fortnightly- shower before bed.

JayJayj · 19/01/2026 06:51

Pjs used to be twice but since having my daughter 3 years ago, I sweat more on a night, so now once. Towels 2/3 times.

Happyjoe · 19/01/2026 01:13

Lol, I am so far removed from OCD.

And no, towels get a sort of coating on them, fresh towels are fab.
Just googled too, apparently 3-4 uses is it before they should be washed. Anyone who thinks their towels are still clean because used after having a wash is a little deluded.

I am having an issue with the word "should" in this context. Have their been any randomised control trials to establish towel-washing schedule or something? I bet not. I bet it would be some obscure dermatologist saying "well, theoretically, I think there is bacteria build up on towels so they should be washed every three days" and helpfully omitting the fact that they have no data to substantiate this.

user2848502016 · 19/01/2026 07:41

Same probably 3-4 times
Pyjamas twice (I wear knickers under them!)

Allisgoodtoday · 19/01/2026 07:46

My towel goes into the laundry basket every day. Bathroom system: every morning the sink side towel is used for my morning shower, then into the laundry. New sink towel out for the day, repeat next morning.

Kitchen towels: alternate days.

Nightwear is clean on every day. Bed sheets/duvet cover washed twice a week - I used to do them weekly but now I'm older (with a few minor health problems) I seem to spend more time asleep!

Fortunately I live on my own so I can please myself how often I wash things, without reference to anyone else. I just love the feel of clean clothes and bedlinen...all my clothes are on fresh every day. One of life's small luxuries.

Owly11 · 19/01/2026 07:49

When they get to the point at which I don't want to use/wear them anymore. Maybe every two weeks or so.

Oblomov26 · 19/01/2026 07:53

Goodness, all this washing daily seems very excessive and ott. I think weekly is fine.
