How many times do you use your towel before washing it?

Whatinthedoopla · 18/01/2026 23:11

I use a pajama once, then wash it. Does everyone do the same?

With towels, I use maybe twice or three times, But I'm not really sure if it shouldn't be this way?

Pjs maybe weekly but I sometimes wear them on a weekend morning for a few hours doing housework etc so sometimes it's only 3 or 4 days.

Towels maybe once a fortnight max but sometimes after a week.

Bedding probably once a month but we both wear full PJs so no skin touches the bed really.

Sometimessometimesnot · 18/01/2026 23:44

Pjs every day
Bedding once a week..share bed with JRT !
Towels every 3-4 days.

JanuaryJasmine · 18/01/2026 23:45

I don't wear PJ's/nightwear.

Towels probably after about 3-4 showers, but they get put straight on the heated towel rail to dry, they don't sit around damp. They are line dried so get washed on a good day for drying, more than how many showers I've had!

they never ever smell.

flatterlylatterly · 18/01/2026 23:45

Does nobody worry about using so much water and energy for things which are perfectly useable? I wash our towels every couple of weeks unless they look dirty or smell unpleasant before that. I hang them outside or in a room with an open window until properly dry after each use
so they don't smell normally.

elm26 · 18/01/2026 23:46

I sleep naked so only put pjs on after a shower or bath in the evening so I will wear them for 2 evenings before changing them. DH sleeps in boxers, clean every night after shower. Kids have clean pjs every night. Towels are used for 5-7 days before being washed. All bedsheets washed and changed every Friday.

You change your pjs every day? Why? I change mine every Sunday but I don’t sleep in them I sleep naked as I get too hot. Towels are changed usually every 3/4 days unless they need washing sooner

ResusciAnnie · 18/01/2026 23:52

I don’t count. Definitely a few times. And the kids are always using ‘our’ towels so we share I guess! The horror! I don’t really see the problem as the things a towel dries are clean!

lazyarse123 · 18/01/2026 23:37

Why are people wearing clean pyjamas every day? I shower before bed but i do wear pants so change nightwear about every 5/7 days and sometimes i keep them on part of the day. I wash towels when i think about it and there's two of us and we share. I know people get horrified by that but when you think of what else we share it's ridiculous to be bothered by towel sharing.

I'd like to know that too but in all the years this question was raised on MN, I've not been given an answer which made sense.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 18/01/2026 23:54

Bath towels live on a heated towel rail and are washed weekly on a Wednesday, the matching hand towels at the same time. I’m off on a Wednesday so DP puts them on to wash after his shower before work, and then I put them through the dryer or hang them out - can’t wait for line-drying weather.

I sleep in a nightshirt/nightdress (plus pants) and wear a fresh one each night. DP wears either boxers or naked in bed.

Bed stripped and changed every Friday - love fresh sheets for the weekend! If I ever win the lottery I will have a person come and strip/change the bed (and do the laundry) every single day.

I agree, so much excessive washing on Mumsnet. I’m sure people don’t wash as frequently in real life!
For me, pjs are changed after 2 wears; towels about every fortnight (hand towels & tea towels weekly); bedding 3-4 weeks.

loveyouradvice · 18/01/2026 23:56

Genuinely ... why would you wash your towel after 3-4 days??

It's drying a CLEAN body.... and we are hopefully looking after the environment

I aim for every 7-10 days, and don't worry if it ends up being 2 weeks. Never smell... why would they?

OrangeisthenewBrown · 18/01/2026 23:56

I don't have any particular schedule for pyjamas and towels. I think I usually wear 2, or sometimes 3, pairs of pyjamas over the course of a week. Towels are usually washed when I can't remember the last time I washed them, so probably about every 2 or 3 weeks ish!

Nancylancy · 18/01/2026 23:58

Pyjamas usually 1-2 nights. Sometimes longer if I shower right before bed each night.
Towels - errmm. Probably every 2-3 weeks? They don't get particularly dirty or smell?!
Bedding about once a month 😂

I struggle to get through washing on a weekly basis as it is, can't imagine trying to fit bloody bedding and towels in every few days on top of the hundreds of loads I seem to do for my family of 4!

Some people don’t wear pants with PJ’s.

me24x · 19/01/2026 00:03

New PJs every day towels are washed twice a week

Thedownwardspiralpath · 19/01/2026 00:04

I wash my towels ( just me) after one use. I wear clean pants with pj’s so change them twice a week. Bedding is fortnightly.

Do they also not wash before using towels?

Happyjoe · 19/01/2026 00:09

PJ's/nighties every day clean on, menopause doesn't allow for anything else.
Towels, I like towels to be rough as they dry me off quicker, so max 3 uses before that goes but it's normally 2.

Yeah, never grundies with PJ's - makes my bum too hot.

Do you not find they feel different? I have bath every day and after 2-3 days the bath towel feels dirty, despite it drying a clean body. Dead skin I presume?!

Nope, more likely to be OCD.

Scohpahni · 19/01/2026 00:16

I wash towels twice a week, change my own pjs probably every 2/3 days however my daughter has new pjs every night.

Bransle · 19/01/2026 00:17

I expect I’m going to get flamed, but I only wash my bath towels every 2-3 weeks or so. I hang them up to air dry after each use, which means they are used about 6- 9 times between washes. I chuck the hand towels in at the same time, although sometimes I swap the hand towels out sooner.

IMO if you dry them properly after each use (remember you are drying your clean body!) then I don’t see why it needs to be more? My bath towels never smell, and neither do I! 🤣

I wash my bedding every 4-6 weeks 😱🤣

For me, washing more frequently is both expensive, extra work, unnecessary and bad for the planet.

Teenagerantruns · 19/01/2026 00:17

Pj's twice a week but l dont wear them in bed just for a few hours in tbe evening.
Towels, when l remember, maybe once a week?
Towels are used for drying a clean body, l dont know why you would wash them after using once?

Daisymaybe60 · 19/01/2026 00:24

Bathroom towels, sheets, pillowcases usually weekly. Duvet covers fortnightly as the duvet gets turned every day. Kitchen hand towel and tea towel every 3/4 days.
