Terms used by "influencers".. Arrrghhh!

Browsing at my Instagram this evening and feel a need to have a rant lol.
Influencers talking about Sunday night "reset" in videos about simply planning for the week ahead. I mean mundane things like ironing school uniforms, tidying up the kitchen.. Just normal tasks that are familiar to most of us. Why call it a "reset"?

Similar is when an influencer is posting videos of themselves in new clothing items.. Lets say new shirt or jacket etc. They call it a "piece". As in I got this piece in x shop..
Why not just call the item whatever it actually is?

why does everything need to be “aesthetic”??

why are they always in an era “I’m in my matcha era”

why are they always a girly? “I’m a baggy jeans girly”

ughh

Edited

Argh the GIRLIES!

'Calling all my tall girlies!" How about you get fucked, love.

For food influencers, nothing is just yummy or tasty anymore, it's FLAVOURFUL.

Highlighta · 19/01/2026 05:05

Why do people film themselves crying? If something pops up and they are sitting in the car and a fake tear then appears, I am scrolling by. What happened to having a meltdown in your pillow, fixing your face and then moving on with life.

I thankfully have dog videos coming up now thank goodness, but I don't like those who film their babies right up in a dogs face and call the animal the sitter.

The make up ones. Next I'm going in with. Argh. And then they dribble whatever on the side of their face. What is wrong with putting the oil or whatever into your hand like people have been doing for decades. And it's never a moisturizer or cleanser. It's always a 'product'.

I’m not sure if it’s an influencer thing because I don’t really watch them, but I’ve noticed a lot more people talking about how they “caught feelings” for someone, and I cannot bear it.

I quite like that one.
Having a thing about someone does seem like catching a cold in a way - as in something external that lands on you. And falling in love is like the flu.

Rubyupbeat · 19/01/2026 06:01

The fingernail tapping, oh, the fingernail tapping, dreadful!.

Littlemisscapable · 19/01/2026 06:22

Yes....journey 🙄 so annoying

This is more of a what they do rather than say but when foodie influencers take a bite of something they close their eyes, dramatically toss their head back and proceed to repeatedly point at the dish with their fork whilst nodding emphatically. Every single one of them. Every single time.

We went to London before Christmas and stopped at some stalls for food. Then realising it was some event and there was a fair few of them wearing a coloured bracelet indicating they were influencers. Each one did exactly this whilst their friend filmed them, I was cringing the entire time. I couldn't imagine being able to zone out of reality and ignore the masses of regular people around you

Fucking THIS. And the hook finger under the nose.

I swear an entire generation, maybe 2 have had their brains scrambled by that absolute shit.

The hook finger! How could I forget.

Influencing is just so overtly inauthentic at this point that surely this type of media has to crash and burn soon.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 19/01/2026 06:49

Am I pointing out the obvious to say the algorithm gives you more of what you watch?
My TikTok feed has none of this crap.

Cycleaway · 19/01/2026 06:57

Iykyk. no Lisa, I don’t know. And I can’t afford that over priced thing that you’ve been gifted, so I’ll continue to not know

and also if you insist on using one of those microphones that looks like a small rodent, please clip it to your clothing instead of holding it right up to your mouth so that I can hear grim mouth noises

thanks 🤣

Beverlymacker1 · 19/01/2026 06:59

"I finally managed to get my hands on the viral..."

deedeethebee · 19/01/2026 07:20

If they like anything at all, even a wee bit they are "obsessed" also they say "I'm a real hair clip girly" "I'm a real latte girly" "I'm such an autumn girly" Girly, girly, girly even if you're 45, make it stop!

normanagfriends · 19/01/2026 07:22

"This is a total game changer" then presents something very mundane like a pair of jeans or a colander for pasta.

Alltheyellowbirds · 19/01/2026 07:31

“It’s giving”

I hate the fingernails tapping on everything.

Finger nail tapping and general asmr.

Friendlygingercat · 19/01/2026 07:42

A red lip. Were you only born with one?

Mere1 · 19/01/2026 07:46

Why watch any of them if they irritate you?

YourVividDuck · 19/01/2026 07:49

‘ I haven’t been on for a while so I thought I’d hop on and show you ‘ proceeds to promote whatever. Also Stacey Solomon and her instagram stories which then link to an ad.

JennyWrenSeven · 19/01/2026 07:52

It might be just me but I can’t stand the way they all seem to emphasise the K when they say TiKtoK shop! Grr!

SpigTheFish · 18/01/2026 20:40

2016 fashion is trending for 2026, so skinny jeans, millennial pink, it bags, backless loafers, skinny scarves, slip dresses.

ARE SKINNY JEANS BACK IN FASHION???

I'm excited about this prospect

Highlighta · 19/01/2026 07:55

And what is the YMMV thing that has been creeping in lately.

Half way through some "product" review salespitch this is on the screen. If they are speaking such a lot of waffle anyway, why not just say what it is.

Pigeon31 · 19/01/2026 07:58

I quite like reset as a term for what I'd be doing anyway on Sunday and a way to explain to OH that I need a few hours at home on Sundays to set my routines up for the week.

HollyhockDays · 19/01/2026 08:00

“Any recommendations for?”

This absolutely drive me nuts because it is essentially code for “please give me this for free even though I could afford to buy it.”

Also the teeny tiny microphone things I had to stop following someone who was hissing “it’s me” into it every time she started her videos. And if the ones who flog the toothbrushes or the razor that a million others a posting about I also scroll past.
