Terms used by "influencers".. Arrrghhh!

Browsing at my Instagram this evening and feel a need to have a rant lol.
Influencers talking about Sunday night "reset" in videos about simply planning for the week ahead. I mean mundane things like ironing school uniforms, tidying up the kitchen.. Just normal tasks that are familiar to most of us. Why call it a "reset"?

Similar is when an influencer is posting videos of themselves in new clothing items.. Lets say new shirt or jacket etc. They call it a "piece". As in I got this piece in x shop..
Why not just call the item whatever it actually is?

Curated, especially as a verb. "I have curated a gift list for you, so you don't have to". "I have curated my closet".

Also pouring face serum or moisturiser straight onto the face, rubbing the tube on the skin.

Yes, and 'gifted'.

'I was gifted this perfume...'

FUCK. OFF.

normanagfriends · 19/01/2026 09:06

"So, lovelies, I have such a head wreck of a day today. After the school run the dog has to be dropped at the groomers then I have to collect a parcel from my EVRI lock box. Then the munchkins have scouts after school, then dinner, bath and bed. A cheeky 🍷will definitely be needed tonight!

So tell me ladies, what are you all up to today? Let me know down below".

I'm working, like every other day.

Dragonflytamer · 19/01/2026 09:07

I really dislike "haul" - it is at the heart of the worst of the consumerism that these influencers encourage. Just buy whatever crap as long as it is from my sponsor.

Gggh · 19/01/2026 09:09

Saying they got a lot of questions about whatever (shite they are trying to flog) then putting up a discount code. So obvious and contrived.

A lovely evening with good people. Such an awful phrase and being copied. What are they trying to say - others aren’t good. Hate it when a family member uses it, even when I am tagged as one of the good people. Feels cliquey, immature and unpleasant.

Thesummer · 19/01/2026 09:10

The twee chipper mum influencers:

"Good morning my lovelies! We're up and out bright and early this morning to do X. Y only slept for 2 hours but we are outdoor people so some fresh air is needed!"

Fuck off.

Gggh · 19/01/2026 09:16

God’s plan. From a hypocritical, vacuous idiot shilling junk.

Dream home of an influencer with a young child. Then proceeds to show an unfenced pool.

SkibidiSigma · 19/01/2026 09:18

I don't watch them but they do pop up on my feed and it really annoys me when the heading of the video starts POV..... And the video is clearly nothing to do with their point of view and just a heap of shit.

TittyGajillions · 19/01/2026 09:24

I don't have TikTok and my IG is full of kittens, dogs, crafters and books. I do watch a bit of Booktube and the term 'unhauling books' makes me twitchy. Just say taking them to the charity shop fgs.

mathanxiety · 19/01/2026 01:11

Does anyone else want to puke when they hear the phrase "it's giving..."?

AAVE makes you 'want to puke'? Yikes.

Benjaminbraddock · 19/01/2026 09:34

I just had to come and say
i judt had to jump on and say

stillnoideawhatimdoing · 19/01/2026 09:35

I have specific phrases for different levels of cleaning and organisation. Have done for about 15 years! Helps DH knows what to expect. Everything from a basic spritz to a 'full factory reset'. Resent that I now sound like I'm jumping on some sort of influencer bandwagon! Bleugh.

Failedcrunchymum · 19/01/2026 09:40

I haven't rtft so I don't know if he's been mentioned on here, but this guy has nailed it (excuse the pun).

Hobnobswantshernameback · 19/01/2026 09:41

Wholesome
"such a wholesome weekend"
"lovely trip to see friends so wholesome"
like what does that even mean?

Hobnobswantshernameback · 19/01/2026 09:41

"Just jumping on"

baroqueandblue · 19/01/2026 09:41

Ribenaberry12 · 18/01/2026 19:32

“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but…”

Do they also do "side hustles" at spiritualists churches?

Pushmepullu · 19/01/2026 09:47

This has just landed

BoudiccaRuled · 19/01/2026 09:52

Excited for
Obsessed by/with
Doggo
Kiddo
Tapping on bloody pots of moisturiser
😤

pippapipps · 19/01/2026 10:05

The putting two hands under their chin smiling and wagging the fingers 😡 the phrase' hitting pan" winds me right up
"I am literally obsessed with"...whatever shit they're obviously promoting
The way questions are backwards these days e.g " And that bothers you why?" ...no fuck off phase the question properly instead of this backwards bollox 🤮😡
So much more I could add but I can't be getting stressed at this time in the morning .. I like to live in my simple world if I can so glad I grew up in the seventies and eighties without all this bullshit nonsense

Wearegoingtoneedabiggerboat · 18/01/2026 19:25

I hate the viral items of clothing. They start with ‘ everyone is talking about these viral jeans’. Er no they are not

They just wish we all were!

I feel the same about anything ‘must have’ - usually something v expensive pushed by some vacuous fashion journalist.

blackpooolrock · 19/01/2026 10:07

I have no idea why anyone would pay attention to these z listers. Unfollow them, block them even... stop giving them any attention.

Notforthefirstorlasttime · 19/01/2026 10:09

“It’s giving” and “I’m going to reach for”. “Next, I’m going to reach for this gorgeous Zara blazer, then I’m reaching for this amazing pair of boots, lastly I’m reaching for my beautiful sunglasses”. FFS.

dailyconniptions · 19/01/2026 10:12

Fry off. Ffs, just fry it. No need for the off, dicks. 'Reaching out' is just pathetic too.

TeenToTwenties · 18/01/2026 19:25

That may come from Married at First Sight Australia.

Noo im certain its American.. like the song... feels

"Don't be afraid to catch feels"

nevernotmaybe · 19/01/2026 10:17

You picked some terrible examples, both those are fine. Giving names and labels can be helpful for those who struggle to organise, whatever you want to call it it is a net positive for some and not a bad thing.

For the second, if you have 20 trouser in a row, saying "I got these trousers" 20 times in a row is going to sound worse than other words. And these, or this piece, is an inconsequential choice.

So for your overall point, theres some terrible terms. For your examples, nothing wrong there at all.

Shakeyourwammyfannyfunkysong · 19/01/2026 10:18

Influencer videos are pure brainrot aimed to accomodate the attention span and maturity of a 3 year old and convince you to buy shit from the internet that is either a total scam or cost 10x more than a generic version that can be purchased on amazon. You're not wrong to dislike them but if you don't like them you're a grown adult. Just turn your phone off!
