Browsing at my Instagram this evening and feel a need to have a rant lol.
Influencers talking about Sunday night "reset" in videos about simply planning for the week ahead. I mean mundane things like ironing school uniforms, tidying up the kitchen.. Just normal tasks that are familiar to most of us. Why call it a "reset"?

Similar is when an influencer is posting videos of themselves in new clothing items.. Lets say new shirt or jacket etc. They call it a "piece". As in I got this piece in x shop..
Why not just call the item whatever it actually is?

What is the hand movement thing?
I feel more and more old 😆

I wish I knew! They making a beak with your hand: you’d have straight fingers and thumb coming together in a clasping fashion. They all do this when they’re talking, sometimes but not always to emphasize a point. Normally one that doesn’t need emphasis. It’s an affectation like standing with one hip thrust out and foot flipped to the side while flicking your hair (which we used to do in the 80s and 90s 😂).

I know lots of people have said “Well why do you watch this stuff?” but as a very genuine question why do you? I don’t go on TikTok but I do use Instagram and I only follow people who post nice photos (travel photography, art, deserted buildings, gardening, capybaras, that kind of thing). Surely if you don’t watch inane people trying to sell you shit, then eventually the algorithm resets and you don’t get that kind of content pushed on you.
Or are influencers actually enjoyable to watch in other ways that make up for all the bullshit that’s being quoted on this thread? Sounds tedious as hell to me, if I’m going to watch something mindless I’ll go for cat videos or cute toddlers miming to Gladiators.

Yes to this.

The algorithm sends me kitten videos, gardening, house restoration, videos of Azerbaijani grannies making bread in tandoori style ovens with deep snow and stray cats outside their humble abodes, and Latvians poking fun at Latvia.

I haven’t read the entire thread, so this one may have already been said. The one that irks me the most is “journey.”

Weight loss journey, hair growth journey and wellbeing journey etc. Why is everything a journey?

Monty27 · 19/01/2026 01:31

Can't bear it. Wagging of index fingers puts me in a very dark place.

Does anyone else want to puke when they hear the phrase "it's giving..."?

That phrase is spreading. An email from Pinterest had the subject line, "You're giving curator vibes".

I don't think an account inactive for 6 months qualifies for that description 🙄

Referring to an item of clothing or a handbag as "she".

OMG this!!!! I can’t stand it. It’s ridiculous and makes no sense!!

When I heard progression of dementia being described as "part of the dementia journey", I wanted to scream.

The words "intentional" and "elevated". So overused.

ShelleyCarpenter · 19/01/2026 01:42

I start scrolling as soon as someone says they are “obsessed”. I just can’t stand it.

Whilst this does sound like a virtue boast, have to agree.
You really do have to forcefully curate your own viewing choices.
if I watch something lazy (crap) on youtube, it will deluge me with more and more crap. I have to then select 'don't show this again' to try to train the fucker.

I rarely indulge in social media, it's all quite depressing, and even more so if you are hoping to share art.
Unfortunately the only way to rid your life of this dross is to be hypervigilant.

it pays off, because if you get lazy and just chance-scroll, you will suffocate in an avalanche of woe-some mediocrity.

What if they started doing a video on Judith Chalmers (nicknamed the globe trotting tangerine) and her trips away? ✈️ 🍊 🤔
Would that then qualify as their...
Journey journey? 🤔 👀 😆

I couldn't help myself. 🤷‍♀️
I will show myself out 🤣

I’m sick of the dumb ass nail tapping and the wiggling their fingers under their chin! I mean wtf? It’s like almost every single influencer does it….. like sheep! Oh and those who have their sleeves covering most of their hands so they just have the ends of their fingers sticking out!!! Ffs 🤦‍♀️

The jumper over the hands thing is called "sweater paws" and I hate it too!

Lowlandgirl · 19/01/2026 02:56

Menty B

slightest inconvenience and they say “I am having a total menty b”

they are constantly talking about mental health and how we need to take it seriously and I just feel this totally trivialises it

I have an absolutely fabulous cure for those influencers:

Turn. Them. Off. Stop. Watching Them.

Cures a host of illnesses, my sweet friend. ❤️

I hate the fingernails tapping on everything.

Im so glad Im not the only one, the sight and sound of those false talons nails tapping, it triggers my inner red mist, I have visions of snapping fingers off…

“Run, don’t walk…. to buy this overpriced piece of rubbish that I’m being paid to promote”

That is a fundamental misuse of that term too--run don't walk means AWAY from whatever the fuck thing/person is not ok and needs to be avoided at all costs

when I hear “I was today years old”. What does that even mean? How can ‘today’ be a year 🤣

Queenoftartts · 19/01/2026 04:40

Someone happens and someone will say something and it’s very important you don’t listen to them blsh blah.

The finger wagging when about to show you a stupid life hack I hate.
