Terms used by "influencers".. Arrrghhh!

Browsing at my Instagram this evening and feel a need to have a rant lol.
Influencers talking about Sunday night "reset" in videos about simply planning for the week ahead. I mean mundane things like ironing school uniforms, tidying up the kitchen.. Just normal tasks that are familiar to most of us. Why call it a "reset"?

Similar is when an influencer is posting videos of themselves in new clothing items.. Lets say new shirt or jacket etc. They call it a "piece". As in I got this piece in x shop..
Why not just call the item whatever it actually is?

The phrase 'Putting the kitchen to bed' 🙄
its so wanky!

Chexton · 19/01/2026 10:29

I fell into a hole in TikTok showing influencers prepping their ‘loaded water’

I was agog but it was like a car crash, I couldn’t turn away.

Howwilliknow122 · 19/01/2026 10:29

the mums and dads that boast about doing stuff with their kids in the kitchen, like letting them cook and not worrying about the mess or letting the kids get involved with absolutely everything they do so its quality time spent, so the kids arent on devices or having too much screen time... but said parents are posting endless videos that require editing and filming so I doubt quality time is actually being spent with the kids at the expense of the rest of us feeling crap because we don't want our little ones helping with taking out the bins or letting them wash the dishes that involves flooding the kitchen floor and wasting 100 gallons of water in the process 🤣🤣🤣

I absolutely cannot bear the use of ‘reaching out’ rather than ‘asking’.

Oh God yes hate it

Bottomofthedeepbluesea · 19/01/2026 10:29

I'm just starting with a disclaimer that although I don't watch any influencers, I have no ill feeling toward them or what they do. The world moves on and it doesn't effect my life if someone makes money off selling some tat with cringe videos. But.....

I do get the odd video that pops up in my reels and there are definitely repeated traits a lot of people seem to have that irritate the fuck out of me.

fit (or fits) - Fit check.

The thing they all do with their fingers when they talk to camera. They kind of grasp them together constantly at the tips of their fingers with their thumbs. It's so odd. Like when all public figures and politicians started using the pointy thumb thing when they were trying to convey what they had to say was sooooo important.

The way they edit videos so their next sentence almost starts talking over the end of their current sentence. Why do they do that? So annoying.

But the final one that realllllyyy gets me is the weird teeth talk thing they all seem to do. I think I spotted Kate Lawler doing this the other day too. It's like they try and talk without using their lips at all. Like it's somehow a crime to move your mouth and tongue, so you kind of just open and close your mouth and talk through your teeth. It's so bizarre but I really hope someone else here knows what I mean.

Bottomofthedeepbluesea · 19/01/2026 10:34

I tell you what does crop up a lot on my feed that I am not sure if it's classed as influencers but irritating none the less. I get a lot of "stich incoming" videos, or just videos of someone watching a clip, with their head taking up half the screen, nodding or laughing. And that's it. Why am I supposed to care if you find that funny, or whatever your reaction is? Why do I need to see you at all!?

Side note - I used to think "stitch incoming" meant something so funny was about to happen it would give you a stitch from laughing so much. I'd see all these videos and think, "where was the funny thing? I'm not laughing". Duurrrr!

“It’s giving” and “I’m going to reach for”. “Next, I’m going to reach for this gorgeous Zara blazer, then I’m reaching for this amazing pair of boots, lastly I’m reaching for my beautiful sunglasses”. FFS.

Ugh and then things that they don't wear much - "I just don't reach for it" (see this has spilled over into Vinted quite a bit) 😬

Fry off. Ffs, just fry it. No need for the off, dicks. 'Reaching out' is just pathetic too.

Omg my DH says fry off, it drives me insane!!!

There’s a guy who popped into my FB Tyler Butterworth who relentlessly mocks influencers. I think he’s on TikTok. He’s pretty funny about it, especially with the super smug ones.

Then there’s the Italian guy who makes fun of all the ‘hacks’ still love him.

I liked Tyler at first when he was mocking the coffee lady relentlessly

Then he started bringing his kids into the videos all the time. I can see the kids are having fun, but I feel really uncomfortable watching other peoples kids. He's also started doing a few gifted things...they all do.

Same as the guy with Pablo the bulldog and Tatum the dog. Their stuff used to be funny and endearing, but it's now all about the paid ads.

wordledrivingmemad · 20/01/2026 11:57

Gifted something- no, you were given something or you gave someone something. Don't know if it’s an influencer thing but it really grates!

RSSN · 20/01/2026 17:24

Totally agree. However bad and annoying 'influencer's' are, 'family vloggers' or people who put their children on the internet are worse

DallasMinor · 23/01/2026 09:53

“I’m an ADHD girlie”

You are a 40-year-old woman and I’m embarrassed for you.

When 'deets' was en vogue as in 'outfit deets down below' one influencer used to always 'deeds' which was very cringey

There does seem to be a lot of newly diagnosed ADHD. Or self diagnosed ADHD!
I’m torn because it’s good that especially female ADHD is being talked about but also suspicious. But worry.

Right! This annoys me, there’s this new safety awareness enlightenment of family vloggers where they start blurring their children’s faces out and mention it in the video “I will be blurring my children’s faces out for their privacy and safety”
ummm WHY did you not do this in the past?? the damage has already been done, and they even keep their old videos of their exposed children’s faces. It’s like they want to appear to be the caring protective parent against predators, yet they were happy to show their children in the beginning to the internet with no thought or concern???

Oh god yes, the sudden influx of seemingly successful, highly functioning women who got an ADHD diagnosis that suddenly excused all of their shitty qualities!

GlomOfNit · 27/01/2026 16:13

YABU for not posting more illustrative links so I can actually SEE grown women wriggling their hands under chins/tapping nails/hooking fingers/etc etc 😂

I'm buggered if I'm going out looking for this shite, it'll infest my social media forevermore. Though I did just find someone on Youtube who's in the UK and does 'cleaning hacks' and I found it so bloody mesmerising I couldn't stop looking. And now I want a handheld steam cleaner, so there's that.

RSSN · 27/01/2026 20:48

I'd love to name a few but that might get me into trouble

Does anyone remember when the yummy mummies were "pulling up the drawbridge" after having a baby?
