Irritated by my sister in law since she started Wegovy?

Since going on it she has become utterly smug!!

Every meal is a lecture about portions, willpower and how easy it is if you just decide to be disciplined. She brings it up constantly and watches everyone else eat with a tiny smile. She posts mirror selfies and captions about finally respecting her body. If anyone mentions side effects or cost she waves it away and says excuses are a mindset.

The thing is I am genuinely pleased she feels healthier. I really am. I just cannot cope with the sanctimony. Family dinners are exhausting and I dread comments about my plate. When I gently asked her to stop she said I should be inspired not threatened. I'm not overweight and have never struggled with my weight.

AIBU to think this is insufferable and want some boundaries or should I just swallow it and nod along? I really want to tell her this can't continue and she needs to calm down and stop with the horrid attitude.

Good grief, were you venting there, you don’t really think the meds stop people wanting to eat completely, surely not. And of all the before and afters I’ve seen they all look fab.

Did you need to come off? I’m staying in a low maintenance dose, many many are.

She was desperate to weigh less than me and was so smug announcing she was now at her lowest weight in 40 years of 11st 12!!

She was mightily pissed off when I got on the scales and weighed in at 10st 10!! 😂😂

Yes, and tell her that with a healthy BMI of xy you’ll never qualify for Wegovy because you’d become dangerously thin. Blame your good metabolism for your ability to eat loads without putting on any weight.

Quite. I'm not sure why I read threads like this as they're upsetting, but I think it's because I want to know what people think about people like me but don't say to our faces. And they're gleefully waiting to 'rub it in our faces' if we stop taking the medication and regain the weight we've lost.
The SIL is obviously behaving like a tit but people are wishing a return to obesity, and all that means for her health, on her.

Yes, you’re probably right but pay no attention as it is just spiteful. I think it’s a wonderful way for people to take control of their life. I’d bet that many won’t put back on the weight as the behaviour changes, you’ll be fitter, plus you can always maintain, it won’t be long before it is cheaper, it’s already been manufactured in tablet form.

You can feel smug that eventually its likely to end badly.

They are responses to a particular situation as described by OP. Many posters who have replied are or were on WLI and agree the SIL is a twat. If you find any comment that is not extolling how "wonderful" WLI are to be so triggering that you have to post repeatedly about how upset you are and how spiteful everyone else is, it would probably be better to confine yourself to the WLI board.

I went up a dose and I was really unwell for week. At that point, it would have made sense to go back to a lower dose but I just couldn’t face it anymore. Sounds really sensible what you have done.

Sorry I wasn’t clear I was responding to the poster who said their hunger had come back when they stopped. I was never unwell on the meds, lost 6 and a half stone, and been maintaining for several months on a low dose, I’m staying on long term

ive never seen anything like it. Every day there is another thread on here with people spewing venom that there is not a prescribed medication to treat obesity. It’s so messed up. Jealousy at its worst.

Sil clearly has some issues around weight and eating. A bit if human kindness wouldn't go amiss. People here may be responding to the situation described but the absolute toxicity in the replies is grim.

There must be support groups for people in her position where she can talk to her heart’s content. Perhaps you could have a quiet word with her and be honest then point her to one of these groups.
