I'm going to pick up a few extra bits from the supermarket after work just in case travel is disrupted for us tomorrow, and we've been advised to take our work stuff home with us this evening to allow us to WFH should the need arise.
I'll also be moving some recycling boxes and things from outside should the expected high winds decide to take them off down the street!

Frettle · 08/01/2026 14:13

Apparently the storm is missing my area completely, looks like 15mph winds and a bit of rain.

Nickyknackered · 08/01/2026 14:14

Didn't know there was a storm!

333FionaG · 08/01/2026 14:19

I've weatherproofed my chicken run - they usually stay inside the coop anyway, when the weather is bad. We live on the coast and the winds in winter are pretty wild a lot of the time. I'm not looking forward to Storm Goretti but we have plenty of wood for the fire and a full pantry and fridge. The dogs have been walked and we intend to stay indoors until it is all over.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 08/01/2026 14:21

It’s just forecast to rain near me, haven’t seen a spec of snow this year yet.

ChocolatesAndRainbows · 08/01/2026 14:21

Live my life and not scaremonger on the internet probably.

ChickalettasGiblets · 08/01/2026 14:21

Do you live in the southwest or in a hilly area? Honestly if you don’t, I’m not understanding the panic

Not sure doing a supermarket shop a day early classes as scaremongering really

Applespearsandpeaches · 08/01/2026 14:24

It’ll be rainy here and there might be some sleet. Expecting a normal day.

Even if we were affected, storm preparedness for us is just moving the wheelie bin to the corner where it won’t tip over and moving the car away from the big tree. We always have loads of food in and battery packs, matches etc.

It’s getting people in a panic, by mentioning storm, and grocery shopping.

Do what you need to do too feel safe n any given situation but why come on to the internet and fuel panic.

Same here (maybe we live in the same area?). The only plan I've made is to tell the friend that I often swim with on Friday lunch hour that I'm not going swimming if it's raining, which it probably will be.

Isekaied · 08/01/2026 14:28

I'm at work til late today.

Will probably go.to the supermarket like normal tomorrow.

Storm not really hitting us.

Just might get some snow this evening

ShiftySquirrel · 08/01/2026 14:29

Just wind and heavy rain forecast for tomorrow for us, so nothing much to prepare for really.

I imagine it'll be indoor play at school all day tomorrow though so that will be fun!

The wind barely passes for a breeze here tomorrow.

Tortephant · 08/01/2026 14:29

No, of course not. First - I never panic shop. Secondly I shop when I need to and according to what I am doing - that could mean a 'big' shop any day of the week.
Just keep yourself safe and be sensible!!

Focusispower · 08/01/2026 14:29

DH working from home - a meeting that he'd usually attend in person is going virtual. I’m off on Fridays and working from home today. Shopping was delivered yesterday so we’re all good on the supplies front. I’m still nipping out to do yoga and get a couple of bits later. School looks like it’s considering closure tomorrow but I’m at home with my youngest so that’s not any great disrupter for me. A slow snow day would be quite nice really!

lifetheuniverseandeverything42 · 08/01/2026 14:30

i Cancelled my food delivery order for today (figured it wouldn’t arrive anyway) and went last night and took supplies to my mum to make sure she had food in. I work from home and both kids schools are easy walking distance. My husband worked from home just in case but forecast is now saying heavy snow not till 7pm so he could have gone to the office. I mentioned to a couple of friends that their kids could come back here if they had any problems and I brought extra fire wood in. I did cancel a meeting on Friday as we have 30cm forecast overnight and into Friday. So there was no way I was going to make it there. Expect the schools will be closed tomorrow. Kids can enjoy a snow day.

SENcatsandfish · 08/01/2026 14:30

A storm? What kind of storm and where?

JudyMoncada · 08/01/2026 14:30

There's a storm?

surreygirly · 08/01/2026 14:30

FGS charge life for some wind and rain
Mindboggling

Why come on if you dont like the post?

You can always go and discuss mother in laws/husbands instead.

ook you do you. But I’m not the one panic buying because it might be a bit snowy.

Mizztikle · 08/01/2026 14:31

Apparently 10-15 cm of snow here, I'm not so sure its going to be as bad as people are making out but if it is I wont mind a day at home.
