To think loo roll is not enough

Not the nicest subject in the world -sorry!

I live abroad and bathrooms have bidees (spelling) I don’t use these, but always use wet toilet wipes which are said to be easily disposable here and not harmful to the environment
Since doing this it makes me think how normal loo roll paper is pretty gross and just can’t possibly get you properly clean 😬

No one gives a crap how you wipe your arse but I hope you're not flushing wipes.

Use paper, then a wet wipe, which must go in the bin not the toilet, even though it says they’re flushable.

Borborygmus · 04/01/2026 14:02

They’re not wet wipes though, they’re biodegradable toilet wipes, you can also put them in the toilet bin then throw away and change the bin liner

We use the flushable toilet wipes. Environmental issues aside, toilet paper alone isn’t enough.

Yes can put in the toilet bin then throw, I do tend to do as you say and use normal loo roll first

Basic pump top body lotion next to the loo - we use Neutrogena or whatever is on offer.

But getting a bidet gun with refit, I agree.

It really isn’t, it can’t possibly clean properly 😬

My husband is a plumber and says there's no such thing as flushable wipes btw

Have you used a bidet gun on a day like today. 😂
I disable mine in winter and use toilet wipes,

There was a woman from the environmental protection agency in Ireland on the radio before Christmas saying wet wipes aren’t ok and how disgusting the clogs are that need to be sorted. If you wipe with toilet roll, which is fine to flush then when you have a shower you’ll be washing off anything left over. Wet wipes should honestly just be banned except in the cases where they’re needed for children/ adults that have issues and need the additional help.

No wipes are flushable, full stop. Whatever the manufacturers say, they are dreadfully polluting, and are the basis for most drain blockages. If you must use them, bag and bin them.

ocolo · 04/01/2026 14:12

surely wet wipes are fine if binned not flushed.

BarbieBrightSide · 04/01/2026 14:12

I fell for the marketing of 'Wype' that kept appearing on Facebook and I really rate it.

It's basically a gel in a pump that you put onto regular toilet paper, so that after 'dry' wiping you can clean with that. It doesn't make the toilet paper soggy. I keep a pump next to each toilet in the house and there is also a travel size, so I have that in my handbag. Definitely feels cleaner than dry paper alone

Why on earth would you not use the bidet? So much better than environmentally polluting wipes.

You can put in the bin, don’t have time for a shower each time

Body lotion 😬

It's the same as the 'Wype' thing

Topseyt123 · 04/01/2026 14:18

As long as you bin the wipes and don't flush them, nobody gives a crap how you clean your arse.

Even so-called flushable and biodegradable wipes really are not. They block up plumbing systems and sewers.

My DD is a housekeeper at a nearby hotel in our town. Only last week she ended up having to put her arm (covered in rubber gloves and a bin liner, but still) down one of the toilets to pull out a load of supposedly flushable wipes that were blocking it and also stopping the macerator from operating.

They are not flushable. They need to go to landfill, but by the least problematic route, so bin them.

Kayoh · 04/01/2026 14:19

Honestly is no one willing to do even the bare minimum to help the environment. This is so wasteful and unnecessary. Humans have been wiping their arses with toilet roll for decades without drama. If you really must, use a bidet, don't create mountains of rubbish that can't be flushed and can't be recycled.

Disturbia81 · 04/01/2026 14:19

Yes I lived abroad where they have bum hoses, amazing! I realised then that dry toilet paper just doesn’t get it all off. So now I use wipes and bin them.

stomachamelon · 04/01/2026 14:21

I use wipes. I have a stoma and it all goes in the bag. I have a Barbie Bum. It’s just for show :)
