Shall we solve each other’s simple problems?

So. I have a whole load of shit I’m dealing with that cannot be easily solved.

However I also have a variety of very straight forward issues that I could do with people helping with - so how about we all solve each other’s simple stuff??

Things I need help with and would appreciate answers from people who know:

  1. How many towels do I need for a family of four?
  2. What is the best way to keep Tupperware properly organised?
  3. What shoes do I need to be smart in all weather?

TIA?

I would say double that number of towels, @Vvvvvvvvv so you can have one set in use, one in the wash.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 26/12/2025 17:56

@Merryoldgoat for (2) I would recommend a big drawer or box so that you can store the boxes with their lids on as for me the big issue is lids and boxes getting separated

I agree with this. Also you'll want at least one spare set for guests or emergencies.

Buy new Tupperware all
the same, that way you never have missing lids/trays.

  1. one bath sheet per person then an additional smaller head towel for those with longer hair
  2. no idea
  3. these https://www.toa.st/collections/womens-boots/products/blundstone-leather-lug-boots-chocolate

❤️

Disagree. I have very short hair and still use a towel wrapped round it when I get out of the shower. Impractical not to.
Id say 2 bath sheets and two smaller towels each minimum so you can have one set to use while the others wash and dry

I keep a pile of boxes and a pile of lids next to each other in a narrow cupboard so they can’t fall everywhere. The top lid and top box match every time that way.

Flibbertyfloo · 26/12/2025 18:00

Always store tuppaware with their lids on. Saves all the faffing.

Mmmkaay · 26/12/2025 18:03

I sorted out the Tupperware cupboard last week and anything that didn't have a matching top or bottom was flung. They are all now stacked with their tops attached and that's how they're staying. It made sorting out leftovers yesterday a breeze!

  1. Two bath sheets, two smaller towels for each female family members/males who care about their hair, two hand towels for each bathroom.
  1. Chuck anything you have already and buy a new set that completely matches. Store in its own drawer/cupboard.
  1. Black leather Chelsea boots.

My own small problem:

  • I have a selection of old, non-matching sofa cushions. Should I continue to let them annoy me on a daily basis, or replace them? If replace, what colour cushions for a pair of light grey sofas?

Yes you definitely should - personally I'd go for a selection of sage greens and rose/pale pinks OR bronzes /autumnal tones with touches of vivid blue (not too much blue) but it very much depends on the rest of the room!

  1. As a family of 4, I have 6 of each towels size form Large bath sheet to flannel. Plenty for one each plus extras for whatever reason.
  2. Dont hoard Tupperware. Yes it’s invaluable, but only in the quantity you genuinely might need. Throw away odd sized Tupperware, Tupperware with missing or broken lids. Try and keep (or buy) sets of Tupperware that you can stack inside one-another and stack lids on top.
  3. loafers or Chelsea boots.

Has my bus from Detroit to Toronto been cancelled or not?

Customer service are giving different answers to different people.

My problem is my 'new' hob - sadly not induction. We had an induction before which was amazing but it cracked, DH went to buy a new hob, fitted it then I realised it wasn't induction.

It is shit. Nothing colours or browns when I cook on it. Am I doing something wrong? Seriously about ready to rip the thing out myself and go buy a new induction one! Help!

Should I go swimming at Centerparcs tonight after dinner? Pool closes at 8, it’s our last night but it’s very cold out there and I’m comfy.

No. Stay inside where it's nice and warm.

Absolutely not. Sofa, wine and chocolate.

It’s better to store Tupperware with the lids off to prevent tiny bits of moisture getting trapped, which can lead to mould collecting in the grooves.

KimonoQueen · 26/12/2025 18:32

Our tupperware is stacked in 2 boxes (depending on size) in a kitchen cupboard. Their lids are in their respective boxes but not on. I can yank the box out to find the container im looking for.
Any where the lids go awol or break are ruthlessly culled.

Id like to say I instigated this system - but it was DH after I swore at the plastics bastards for the n th time. And its been working like a dream for years now.

TheChosenTwo · 26/12/2025 18:36

I have about 30,000 towels in my cupboard but I’d say for a family of 4 you need 8 bath towels and 8 smaller ones.
Tupperware is stored in our cupboard with the lids already on so you can just pick one out knowing it has a lid already.
The shoe question is too broad!

my minor question I can’t answer is what am I going to eat tonight? There are leftovers that I’ve been picking on all day and I’m hungry and can’t decide what I want to eat 😭

  1. Four of one in use, one in the airing cupboard, one in the wash for the 'main' bath towel, plus a few hand towels depending on how many sinks you have at home, and one set for guests if you have any stayover guests,
  2. Have the containers you use most often stored 'standalone', stack the less frequently used ones out of the way.
  3. All weather is tricky if you mean, will they work in summer as well. Brogues are pretty versatile.
BlueWorkDay · 26/12/2025 18:39
  1. As many have said, 2 bathsheets pp, 2 bath towels pp, 2-3 hand towels per loo.
  1. No one knows. Someone knew once, but it was too much knowledge for a single human so they were driven mad.
  1. Chelsea boots (I swear by Camper ones).
