To have not lied to DS about trans actor in Last Christmas?

DungOnATwig · 24/12/2025 01:10

Watching above with DD17 (lesbian) and DS11 (straight) earlier today. One scene where a female presenting (long hair + fake eyelashes) but clearly biologically male actor plays a doctor (just Dr). DS says "that......lady sounds like a man".

I said yeah it is a man love. A man who identifies as a sex they are not.

DD paused then typed a wee bit more furiously than usual for 30 secs but then was ok. She knows tbf. She's lesbian and not pan.

It was so distilled down to me at the point of his very innocent (and tentative so as not to offend question) that I am not prepared to lie to my kid about the fucking fundamentals of life and tell them that person is a woman. Fuck that.

Merry Christmas 🍷

Also FUCK THAT FILM 😭😭😭😭😭

It is a bit of a pants film, nothing to do w the trans actor

I liked it.

WaffleParty · 24/12/2025 06:27

Oh take a day off! Watching a nice Christmas film is not the moment for your anti trans views.
And then to come on here looking for a pat on the back….🙄

Why do you automatically jump to the conclusion that answering her child’s question accurately is ‘anti trans’?
We all know that for someone to claim to be trans, they mean they do not want to be seen as the sex they actually are. That’s ok, it’s their choice. Nobody else has to agree.

PortSalutPlease · 24/12/2025 10:12

there’s literally nothing you people won’t turn into a bigoted rant Hmm

Chafing · 24/12/2025 10:14

"Why do you automatically jump to the conclusion that answering her child’s question accurately is ‘anti trans’?"

The bit OP said about shoehorning in a booming voiced man in woman cosplay gave a little bit of a hint...

ClairDeLaLune · 24/12/2025 10:16

I would have said - that’s a man who is dressing / styling himself in a way more typically associated with how women look, which is perfectly fine as both men and women should be able to look how they like. Trans ideology didn’t need to come into it.

TooMuchStop · 24/12/2025 10:16

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/12/2025 10:01

I know. I didn’t notice the actor was trans. Had to google them.

Didn’t notice? 😂

The obsession people have about this topic on mumsnet is weird and unhealthy. You make this a massive debate and massive problem when it just isn’t.
i would just say ‘biological lol ioóii
neh

You would say what exactly 🤔?

My kids would think I was having a stroke if I said that

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 24/12/2025 10:19

I immediately noticed the doctor was male too and googled to confirm I was right.

Ladyzfactor · 24/12/2025 01:54

It's been probably a whole day without a anti-trans post on this so I guess we got to put up some numbers. Some people have way to much time on their hands to care about other people's lives 🙄

It’s not anti trans to recognise someone’s sex.

DisappearingGirl · 24/12/2025 10:24

TelephoneWires · 24/12/2025 08:01

I think that in the context of this film there is really nothing to criticise about having a trans woman being the doctor. I am ‘gender critical’ and along with many people on Mumsnet believe that people can dress and present as they like but that there are limits such as single sex spaces, medicalisation of children and trans women in women’s sport.

In this particular scenario the person is a cardiologist I think and not making any points about being in women’s spaces or women’s sports or medicalising children. We get accused of wishing that trans people did not exist. This trans person is literally just doing their job in a film. So I really don’t think there should be any objection unless people think that trans people should be shut away and not seen anywhere.

I also agree with this entirely.

I do have some major concerns with gender ideology which are the same as the above poster.

But I have no problem with trans people existing, or being in films.

Also I like this film and have watched it twice and never noticed there was a trans actor in it!

I agree. I don't get why the op was so upset about it.

TooMuchStop · 24/12/2025 10:16

Didn’t notice? 😂

No, I didn’t 🤷‍♀️

Parsleyforme · 24/12/2025 10:32

You could’ve just said it’s a man dressed as a woman. I bet you’re a hoot at pantomimes

littleburn · 24/12/2025 10:33

Oh course you are unreasonable OP. Anything other than chastising your child for not instantly believing the person is a woman is, of course, transphobic. Correctly describing a trans woman as a man who believes themselves to be a woman is also deeply transphobic.

littleburn · 24/12/2025 10:35

Parsleyforme · 24/12/2025 10:32

Part of the joke at pantos is that the men in dresses are evidently not women. No one is having to sit there po faced pretending that they are.

AhBiscuits · 24/12/2025 10:38

God I hate that film. A whole film concocted to match a line from a song. I rolled my eyes so hard when the penny dropped that I saw my brain.

francii · 24/12/2025 10:39

Your poor daughter.

Sunshineo · 24/12/2025 10:41

‘DD paused then typed a wee bit more furiously than usual for 30 secs but then was ok. She knows tbf. She's lesbian and not pan.’

I don’t understand what happened. Ds asked, you confirmed, dd typed ‘furiously’ and then you cried because it’s a sad film?

TooMuchStop · 24/12/2025 10:43

francii · 24/12/2025 10:39

Your poor daughter.

Quite the opposite. Having a mother that doesn’t buy into trans ideology that is homophobic, is a good thing for her daughter being as she is a lesbian.

EchoedSilence · 24/12/2025 10:43

PlanetJanette · 24/12/2025 09:54

Why will you be avoiding it?

Transphobia. But oh on, there's none of that on MN.

cantbearsed247 · 24/12/2025 10:47

slashlover · 24/12/2025 07:28

I said yeah it is a man love. A man who identifies as a sex they are not.

They identify as a different gender, hence transGENDER and the change away from transexual.

Did you miss the whole TWAW thing? Besides gender and sex seem now to have basically come to mean the same thing, even though they aren't. Gender is just a meaningless set of cultural stereotypes.

But no problem with the trans actor in the film, the film was mostly disappointing IMO though and i really regretted paying to see it at the cinema.

Eyeshadow · 24/12/2025 10:48

I don’t really see the issue.

When my DD used to ask things I’d just be honest and say they were either born a man or they’re a woman but has a deep voice.

It’s not offensive to be honest to your child.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 24/12/2025 10:50

And they all stood up and clapped....
🙄
