To have not lied to DS about trans actor in Last Christmas?

DungOnATwig · 24/12/2025 01:10

Watching above with DD17 (lesbian) and DS11 (straight) earlier today. One scene where a female presenting (long hair + fake eyelashes) but clearly biologically male actor plays a doctor (just Dr). DS says "that......lady sounds like a man".

I said yeah it is a man love. A man who identifies as a sex they are not.

DD paused then typed a wee bit more furiously than usual for 30 secs but then was ok. She knows tbf. She's lesbian and not pan.

It was so distilled down to me at the point of his very innocent (and tentative so as not to offend question) that I am not prepared to lie to my kid about the fucking fundamentals of life and tell them that person is a woman. Fuck that.

Merry Christmas 🍷

Also FUCK THAT FILM 😭😭😭😭😭

No, feminists aren't. But a worrying number of anti trans posters on Mumsnet are

I haven't seen any 'anti trans' posters on Mumsnet.

I have seen a lot of anti women/pro-MRA posters though.

You still didn't answer my question; what do you call bad-tempered unpleasant males who threaten to assault and rape and burn in a grease fire and shoot and curb stomp and skin alive feminists who say no to them?

Catssuddenlyappear · 24/12/2025 18:05

Nah, this is Mumsnet. Not even Christmas is a day off from Real Feminism™

(I genuinely can't imagine thinking trans people are more of a problem than unequal pay and pensions caring responsibilities, the shit state of women's healthcare, domestic violence etc but whatever)

This is getting so old now, but the issue is not, and never has been, 'trans' people. The issue, is MALES.

westcott · 24/12/2025 18:08

I love that film and I have never noticed this. Even watched it yesterday. 🤷‍♀️.

So are some females. But fwiw I experienced SA from actual men that weren't trans. I believe that if someone feels strongly that they are the wrong sex and goes through the horrendous surgery to achieve it they fully deserve to be called a woman. A man that just dresses like a woman is a drag artist. They've always been around.

What proportion of men who identify as trans do you think have had surgery to remove their penis?

"Males", a completely normal word to use here.

Is there something about the word male or males that is strange to you? Do you have a problem with the word female, too? Or man or woman?

This is the point exactly. Haven't followed the full thread as it's Christmas Eve 🎄but the issue is predatory MEN. I do not care what they call their selves or what they wear but they can stay the fuck out of women's spaces and categories because they are MEN.

Unequal pay…hmmm…how on earth can you prove that women are paid less than men, if you can’t work out which sort of woman it is who is getting paid less. After all, if TWAW then women with dicks getting paid more than women with vulvas means that women aren’t paid less than men, because women with dicks are paid the same as men.

What was the other thing - health inequalities? Did you know that the vast majority of medical research is done on men, because that pesky menstrual cycle might confuse results? And then it’s just scaled down for women, because women, being generally smaller than men, can just be considered small men. Ditto for sporting matters and road safety tests, BTW. It’s only in relatively recent years that medical science, sports science and engineering are beginning to recognise that this is not the case. Although, if TWAW then it really doesn’t matter and we can just go back to men=default and women =smaller and less important men.

Honestly, the naivety of thinking that transgenderism is just about self-expression and has no effect upon the important issues of misogyny.

Calling out sexism and misogyny is not 'bigoted'. 🙄
Unless you are an MRA.

Being transphobic is bigotry. Unless you are a bigot…. 🙄

Yeah, most people think calling women "females" is gross. It's fine as an adjective but absolutely foul to use it as a noun

Most women I know use the term female/females, so it would appear you're in the minority there. There is nothing 'gross' about the word.

Do they? (Spoiler: we don't) I'm a female. Because I'm an actual woman.

The only people who seem to object to the use of the word "female" are - men.

Also: "gross"? Mate, get back to US Trans Reddit with you.

Are you seriously trying to suggest that there's a large enough cohort of trans people to skew average earnings? Incidentally, they're more likely to be unemployed

I don't think medical misogyny would disappear even if you could magically exist in a world without trans people.

Here's an image for you, that you may have come across, from the UK:

*Go and smell some bus seats, you genital obsessed danger.
I bet your kids secretly (or not so secretly) hate you

Wow, there's a lot of testosterone aggression there. It's strange how it's always you people talking mentioning the word genitals. It's clear we're not the ones obsessed with genitals, you are.

I quite like being a "danger", though. As I make red cabbage and pigs in blankets ready for me and my (non-existent 🙄) family to eat tomorrow 😆

Newsenmum · 24/12/2025 19:40

Was it not a good film? Surely you
dont actually dislike seeing trans people in films even if you disagree with changing their sex/pronouns?

I think it's the difference between calling someone female as an adjective, and calling someone / a group "females" as a noun. I don't know anyone female who has an issue being described as female, but I would have an issue with being called "a female" or in a group being described as "those females".

I don't see it happen "IRL" very often at all, but it's popular with incels / misogynists, and it has a dehumanising feel to it - specifically when used as a noun.

Not transphobic to call a man a man.
