To have not lied to DS about trans actor in Last Christmas?

DungOnATwig · 24/12/2025 01:10

Watching above with DD17 (lesbian) and DS11 (straight) earlier today. One scene where a female presenting (long hair + fake eyelashes) but clearly biologically male actor plays a doctor (just Dr). DS says "that......lady sounds like a man".

I said yeah it is a man love. A man who identifies as a sex they are not.

DD paused then typed a wee bit more furiously than usual for 30 secs but then was ok. She knows tbf. She's lesbian and not pan.

It was so distilled down to me at the point of his very innocent (and tentative so as not to offend question) that I am not prepared to lie to my kid about the fucking fundamentals of life and tell them that person is a woman. Fuck that.

Merry Christmas 🍷

Also FUCK THAT FILM 😭😭😭😭😭

What's with the weird misogynistic 'panties in a bunch'?

I know. Shame that poster isn't a self respecting woman, still less a feminist

SoulSearchBeHonest · 24/12/2025 09:52

It's Rebecca Root who was born male and now identifies as female in a relationship that some call lesbian with a biological female. A fairly well known actor.

In the 2019 film the trans individual Rebecca plays a doctor.

Thank you for the factual non emotive summary

I find it very weird that you're bringing peoples genitals into it. Everyone knows what sex they are. Men should respect the law and women's rights to their own sex spaces and stay out of them.

All I can see here is a bunch of creepily obsessed people who are ruining their relationships with their children

I am at odds with your comment in so many ways. For starters, any response that starts with "you do realise" is bothersome because its so incredibly rude and patronising.
And also no the trans debate isnt a distraction from real problems - we are all aware of those issues as well. It isnt one or the other.

And also no trans people have not always existed.

And no again - because yes actually the existence of trans people does take away from the rest of us. In lots of ways.

I recommend you look up the word "obfuscation" because like many others who hold your perspective on this topic you are good at it.

"And also no trans people have not always existed"

I don't know what "always" means but records show existence of trans people since at least 5,000 BC. So hardly a recent development

Transvestites/crossdressers, yes. No evidence of actual transgender.

YANBU. He is a man and you were right not to lie to your child. is your son year 6 or year 7? From year 7, he needs to be a bit clued up on trans ideology because it’ll be a topic of conversation in school.

From both of your children’s reactions, I’d be having a chat about trans ideology, how it’s a very separate thing to sexuality, that it’s a homophobic movement, the importance of biology, the harm this is doing to women, children, especially autistic people etc.

Yeah, she should definitely indoctrinate them with reactionary, bigoted bullshit, it’s so much easier than saying, “She’s a trans woman”.

Maybe have a few days off for Christmas and go back to the LGBTQ bashing on Saturday. Surely 2 days without abusing a minority isn’t beyond you?

Interesting......... so despite the fact that there is I think? a trans day, week, month of visibility and that we are endlessly being told by the "trans community" (which is in no way a community) that those of us who object to it are "destroying their lives" and lots of other hyperbole........you are arguing that actually the fact that most of us dont identify (or in anyway support the trans cult) doesnt affect a trans persons life. Also as I said in another comment - look up "obfuscation"

The trans cult (because it is a cult) massively affects all of our lives whether male or female in so many ways. It permeates almost every aspect of day to day life in the Western world atm. Have a read/watch of books/videos and you will soon know but Im guessing you'd rather not confront the facts - should you wish to........
Trans by Helen Joyce
Irreversible damage by Abigail Shrier
Fair play by Sharron Davies
Many others also available.

Are there any other issues you think MASSIVELY affects ALL of our lives in SO MANY WAYS and which permeates ALMOST EVERY ASOECT OF DAILY LIFE in the whole of the WESTERN WORLD? Or is it only Trans with which you are so doggedly obsessed?

Imdunfer · 24/12/2025 17:37

I wish I knew which posters were male to female trans and have joined Mumsnet as part of the self-validation of their perceived change to being a woman. There seem to be quite a few posters whose aggression and blindness to women's concerns would suggest that's the case.

YesSirICanNameChange · 24/12/2025 17:37

I had no idea that actress was trans, I've seen her picture before but wouldn't have been able to tell.

Interestingly (this may have already been raised but can't be arsed reading through 15 pages of Mumsnet frothing), she's voicing Madam Pomfrey in the new Audible full cast Harry Potter.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 24/12/2025 17:43

This is about the T. Nobody has said anything about LGB.

And males in dresses are not a 'minority', or marginalised. They are the oppressor and predator sex class. A wolf in sheeps clothing is still a wolf.

But I'm not indoctrinated with misogynist, reactionary anti women bigotry, so I know the difference.

TableRunners · 24/12/2025 14:02

How can you measure any of those things, or address them, if you can't say what a woman is?

Quite easily, in most cases.

Okiedokie123 · 24/12/2025 17:49

Cool a post of mine was deleted. For stating actual facts and science. I quite like that actually tbh.

biscoffcake · 24/12/2025 17:51

15 pages of this on Christmas Eve?!? 😭😭😭

Okiedokie123 · 24/12/2025 17:52

@MyrtlethePurpleTurtle "Are there any other issues you think MASSIVELY affects ALL of our lives in SO MANY WAYS and which permeates ALMOST EVERY ASPECT OF DAILY LIFE in the whole of the WESTERN WORLD? Or is it only Trans with which you are so doggedly obsessed?"
Women are 50% of human existence. All of us was born from a woman, therefore yes that statement is entirely correct and yes Im not going to shut up about it (and neither is anyone else who has woken up to it) going to shut up until common sense prevails.

Men cannot become women.
Women cannot become men.
Transitioning children is child abuse.

Cross dressing has been a thing for centuries, transgenderism is a modern construct.

The so called trans movement is doggedly obsessed with shouting at women but really really doesnt like us shouting back does it. Funny that.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 24/12/2025 17:52

ThatBlackCat · 24/12/2025 15:30

'harridans'

Sure you don't want to throw in 'hysterical' while you're at it? Way to prove our point about anti women misogynistic bigotry!

"A harridan is an old-fashioned term for a bad-tempered unpleasant woman"

If the cap fits...

So feminists are "bad-tempered unpleasant women"... ?

And you really can't see the hateful misogyny?

Edited to add, what do you call bad-tempered unpleasant males who threaten to assault and rape and burn in a grease fire and shoot and curb stomp and skin alive feminists who say no to males? What is the male equivalent of that?

They will still be at it tomorrow. Perhaps we should hand out some sherry and Mince pies to keep their strength up.

Who cares if it's Christmas, there was a Trans woman on the Telly! 🎄

Cindas · 24/12/2025 18:00

So, you’re bothered by an actor who is openly trans, playing a supporting role where presumably for the storyline the gender is fairly irrelevant? Why? Would you rather she didn’t get any work at all?

It must be very draining, having to be on such high alert all the time that you’re unable to have some pleasant family time watching a Christmas film with your kids without the presence of someone in it (who has done absolutely nothing wrong) ruining it for you because in your view they are presenting as the “wrong” gender. Probably best you stay away from pantos.

Where does the OP state she was 'bothered'? She asked people how they thought she answered her son's question.

That's all.

Nah, this is Mumsnet. Not even Christmas is a day off from Real Feminism™

(I genuinely can't imagine thinking trans people are more of a problem than unequal pay and pensions caring responsibilities, the shit state of women's healthcare, domestic violence etc but whatever)
