Is there something wrong with me or is there anyone else who can't cope with Strictly

AlexaMachesca · 20/12/2025 21:58

I can't cope with it.
I've watched this series.
I watch it every year with DC.
Just watched the final.
It's soooooo noisy. So incredibly loud. The non stop screaming when they get their scores. The jumping up and punching the air. The shouting. The schrieking. The cheering. The super loud music. The staged acting. The horrendous booming music when the judges do that thing where they dress up in silly props. Claudia's relentless shouting.
OMG.
I can't stand this format and I'm sure it didn't used to be like this years ago.
I'm sure I used to feel relaxed whilst watching.
Now when I watch it I feel stressed and spend the whole time turning the sound down.
Am I alone in this?
I'm point blank not watching it next year. 11 year old DD forces me to every year but I can't do it anymore. It's torture.

It's grim. Like a very noisy endless pantomime. Can't stand the synthetic emotion.

Cosyblankets · 21/12/2025 09:29

Like the dancing
Can't bear the shouting
I didn't watch this year

IDidBegin · 21/12/2025 09:37

I don’t like it but will watch it with my Mum when I’m visiting. She watches it on silent 😂. She loves dancing but can stand the ridiculous noise. We turned the volume up last night and it was awful. It’s so over the top and cheesy. The sobbing is ridiculous.

Friendlyfart · 21/12/2025 09:47

I’ve only ever seen bits of it and it’s so loud I can’t be doing with it. I do like some of the dancing but cba with the rest of it and no-one else is interested in it in the family.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 21/12/2025 09:50

I just record and forward through everything but the dances, judges’ comments, thr scores and the result. I don’t need the filler.

SeaAndStars · 21/12/2025 10:30

I've never watched it for all the reasons you say.
Even the trailers for it are an explosion of glitter, noise, flashing lights and nonsense. Unbearable.

AlexaMachesca · 21/12/2025 10:49

For clarity, what I should have said is DD 11 is completely hooked and loves it, and asks me to watch it with her every Saturday. She adores the dancing, the costumes, the music, the stage sets, and she gets totally invested in the scores the judges give and who she wants to win.
So that's why I put myself through it - to spend time with her on a Saturday evening watching something she loves with her.
I get that there's an off button, alternative TV to watch, etc.
I will be saying no to her next year though.
I can't put myself through it again!😅
And as for Carlos last night, breaking down in tears in his interview bit with Claudia, crying and wailing hysterically about not being a team player in the past and he thinks that's why he wasn't partnered with anyone last year but now he's learnt soooooooo much from working with Karen and he's sooooooo sorry about how he used to be and he's soooooo much of a better human now all because of his partnering with Karen this year, all said through tears, and then Claudia dramatically reassuring him in a terribly concerned voice and saying "No Carlos! That's not true! We LOVE you Carlos!"
O.M.F.G!
I lost the will to live at this point.
Looked over at DD who was still happily enjoying it though!!

And the fireworks!!!!
And the raining confetti!!!
And the music and cheering and shrieking that was SO LOUD Claudia & Tess had to raise their voices to make themselves heard on camera!
Whyyyyyyy do they make it like that😱

I like it.

If I don’t like something I don’t watch it.

I don’t watch eg Bake Off because I’m not interested. I don’t mind other people talking about it.

I don’t watch many sports as I don’t have time and they’re very time consuming, plus I don’t have Sky. I also don’t mind if people discuss them!

Claudia kept calling Carlos baby when he was crying which was even more irritating.

No wonder I was holding my forehead by that point.

I must be deranged as I've never seen it or I'm a Z-lister Celebrity.

BellissimoGecko · 21/12/2025 17:13

Last night was sooooo drawn out. All the sentimentality, the fawning, the OTT components (and lack of any actual helpful criticism), the repetition… I fast forwarded a lot.

EchoedSilence · 21/12/2025 17:19

I like watching the dancing. I can't stand the weeping and wailing. Carlos was ridiculous this series with his constant crying.

luckylavender · 21/12/2025 17:20

I watched it for years. Was semi detached last year & this year i haven’t bothered. It’s had its day now. Too much controversy.

AgentPidge · 21/12/2025 17:41

I watch it and really enjoy the dancing. The whooping throughout the dancing really got me down last year, but I noticed this year that some of them didn't have it - the slow ones maybe. So it was a bit better. But yes, it's sensory overload.

There's also an awful lot of repetition of the questions. (What would you like to say to your dance partner? etc) I stopped watching It Takes Two for that reason. But it's entertaining enough to keep me hooked. I shall be sorry if they ruin it with the wrong presenters.

BatchCookBabe · 21/12/2025 17:43

@AlexaMachesca

I'm with you. Can't stand the show, and never seen the appeal. It needs shelving IMO. Especially with all the scandal around it.

Minty25 · 21/12/2025 17:43

Drives me mad. The screeching, the blubbering over nothing, even when they are reading out the phone numbers it's loud and lairy. Liked it better back in the early years.

Cliffy95 · 21/12/2025 17:53

Used to like it. Last few years not so much. I just watch the dances and scoring now. The in between nonsense i usually scroll through mumsnet. Last nights final was excruciating with all the shrieking and crying. Lets hope next series gets a complete revamp along with the new presenters. If its the same old crap I'm going to call it a day.

SparklyBiscuit · 22/12/2025 09:00

I have not watched strictly since len left and bruce as well I used to love it at one point all the professional dancers I used to love Ola karen and jordon all left it's never the same. I remember Karen doing the samba she was just amazing. Now I hardly ever know the names of the professional dancers or who is the celebrity dancers trained dancers I find it really boring now. I really miss Arline and bruce and len Goodman

SnowFrogJelly · 22/12/2025 09:37

Agree.. I can’t stand how they go on about how their‘ journey’ has been life changing and they’re always crying!

NormasArse · 20/12/2025 22:10

I used to love watching Come Dancing with my grandma, but Strictly makes me cringe.

5000 sequins sewn on by the woman's ancient Granny! It's not just SCD though, the need to scream and shriek ruins so many programmes.

JudgeJ · 22/12/2025 16:44

XWKD · 21/12/2025 17:11

I must be deranged as I've never seen it or I'm a Z-lister Celebrity.

We need a badge for all those discerning people like us who avoid these amateur things like the plague, dancing, painting, baking and the rest. The word Celebrity also crosses 95% of programmes off my list though I did enjoy Traitors, many because the majority did have real talents, other than being on other 'reality' programmes.

Sartre · 22/12/2025 16:48

I used to watch it religiously with my DGM as a child/teen, back in the day with Brucey and Len. Always greatly enjoyed it but stopped watching until last year when I thought I’d give it another shot because I knew who most of the celebs were and liked a couple of them. Enjoyed it to be honest- still as corny and camp as ever.

Then this year rolled around and I literally didn’t know a single ‘celebrity’ other than Dani Dyer but just because of her Dad, then she pulled out anyway. There’s usually one or two I know on any celeb special but I just didn’t know any. I’m only 32 so either I live under a rock or they weren’t actually famous this year.

To be fair some of the professionals are really great. I loved Vito last year, his energy is fantastic, I just don’t think anyone could be sad around him.
