Is there something wrong with me or is there anyone else who can't cope with Strictly

AlexaMachesca · 20/12/2025 21:58

I can't cope with it.
I've watched this series.
I watch it every year with DC.
Just watched the final.
It's soooooo noisy. So incredibly loud. The non stop screaming when they get their scores. The jumping up and punching the air. The shouting. The schrieking. The cheering. The super loud music. The staged acting. The horrendous booming music when the judges do that thing where they dress up in silly props. Claudia's relentless shouting.
OMG.
I can't stand this format and I'm sure it didn't used to be like this years ago.
I'm sure I used to feel relaxed whilst watching.
Now when I watch it I feel stressed and spend the whole time turning the sound down.
Am I alone in this?
I'm point blank not watching it next year. 11 year old DD forces me to every year but I can't do it anymore. It's torture.

Me too, it’s sensory overload for not enough reward. Dull people & not enough diversity Claudia was right to stick to Traitors

BogRollBOGOF · 20/12/2025 22:29

It's not compulsory to watch it 🤷‍♀️

dancinfeet · 20/12/2025 22:29

me too- and I’m a dance teacher. I find it overwhelming and loud, and the last thing I need on a saturday evening after teaching dance classes all day. I haven’t watched it for about 8 years.

MeouwKing · 20/12/2025 22:32

There is worse out there. Naked Attraction for one. And another one with naked people getting voted off. I don't know what it's called.

MrsKeats · 20/12/2025 22:34

It’s rubbish. And the abuse claims too which make me wonder why anyone watches.

ShesTheAlbatross · 20/12/2025 22:36

ChefsKisser · 20/12/2025 22:03

It’s awful.
Even more so when they talk about it on the news. Literally no one cares!

I don’t watch it. But it is one of the biggest shows on tv, by ratings. So it’s not accurate at all to say that no one cares.

I’d agree it’s not newsworthy though. But really, I don’t watch it, and have hardly seen anything about it. It’s not hard to avoid if you don’t like it or can’t cope with it.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 20/12/2025 22:36

It's the Dead Nans that get to me.

It's so formulaic. It's cringeworthy.

I might not watch it next year if I don't like the new presenters.

But I find a reason not to watch it every year......... then I watch it anyway.

Yikes101 · 20/12/2025 22:37

YABU for watching it if you don’t like it, turn it off or over.

You are welcome not to like it, however, it has a huge following - so clearly your comment "literally no one cares" is totally inaccurate. It averages over 8 million viewers per episode.

suburberphobe · 20/12/2025 22:42

It's boring and never fucking stops!!

Give me a great drama any day!

BBC please!

Fionasapples · 20/12/2025 22:44

I don't watch it any more. I can't stand Tess and Claudia and their silly antics and all the overacting. It used to be so good too.

I’m interested to know in what way you think there’s ’not enough’ diversity?
Last year a blind man won , a past winner is profoundly deaf, we have had a drag queen this year, one of the judges is a gay man , one is a black woman, one is a woman over 50, it has been for years hosted by two women, they have had several same sex couples dancing (including two black gay dancers and a black lesbian woman), this year a celebrity who has Down’s syndrome dancing with a gay man, this year the professional winner is a gay Chinese man and the celebrity partner is a lesbian.

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 20/12/2025 22:51

The trick is to watch it on iplayer, start it an hour into the show and fast forward through all the boring bits

ProfessorofCunning · 20/12/2025 22:51

I’m not interested in it at all. Never have been. In-laws love it, and get really cross that I won’t sit and watch it with them when we visit 🙄 that and all the other ‘talent’ shows. Just not want entertains me, but I wouldn’t stop anyone else from watching something they enjoy.

salcombebabe · 20/12/2025 22:55

It all changed when that female producer from BGT (or was it XFactor?) took over 🤦‍♀️ But rumour has it she's leaving so hopefully it'll become more refined again

Raspberrymoon49 · 20/12/2025 23:00

So many formulaic shows following the same old boring routines, same comments, etc, they’re all way past their sell by date, IACGMOOH, BGT, Strictly, Bake Off, etc, endless sameness being wheeled out ad nauseum

Untailored · 20/12/2025 23:07

LaBelleSauvage123 · 20/12/2025 22:06

I agree. I think it’s got worse and worse in this aspect. I get so bored with the repetitive questions too: ‘how do you feel now you’ve got through to next week?’ ‘What do you want to say to your partner?’ ‘What would it mean to you to win?’ Over and over and over again.

This. First time we’ve had it on for years and oh my god, the constant, repetitive talking, saying the same thing over and over.

domesticslattern · 20/12/2025 23:07

My DD stopped watching it with me this year, saying it's too suffocating.
I think that's an excellent description of the relentless over-the-top nature of it all. All the crying tonight! the crappy out of time audience clapping! the boos if Craig gives anything below a 10! the maudlin dances to dead nans! the fucking awful special effects!
Oh and it's way too long too.
I'll watch it next year though because I am a dull creature of habit. It would be nice if it became a little more refined and a little less suffocating.

MrsDoomesPattersen · 20/12/2025 23:09

Yes OP

i cannot watch it takes two for same reason and everyone speaking at speed

Romeiswheretheheartis · 20/12/2025 23:17

this year a celebrity who has Down’s syndrome dancing with a gay man

Is Vito gay?

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 20/12/2025 23:18

I watch it on catch up, I can't stand the drivel.
So happy Karen won!

Yes……..but personally I think Strictly does all that but far far more than the other examples you’ve given.

Elmspringwater · 20/12/2025 23:33

Ive never seen a full show.
I cant get in to it.
I dont own tv now.

MinnieCauldwell · 20/12/2025 23:38

I record and skip the sentimentality and guff.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 21/12/2025 00:07

Never seen it because of Claudia Winklemans fringe..honest to God I can't look at her, she makes my eyeballs itch. Also cannot watch traitors because of her, tried and failed.
