Is there something wrong with me or is there anyone else who can't cope with Strictly

AlexaMachesca · 20/12/2025 21:58

I can't cope with it.
I've watched this series.
I watch it every year with DC.
Just watched the final.
It's soooooo noisy. So incredibly loud. The non stop screaming when they get their scores. The jumping up and punching the air. The shouting. The schrieking. The cheering. The super loud music. The staged acting. The horrendous booming music when the judges do that thing where they dress up in silly props. Claudia's relentless shouting.
OMG.
I can't stand this format and I'm sure it didn't used to be like this years ago.
I'm sure I used to feel relaxed whilst watching.
Now when I watch it I feel stressed and spend the whole time turning the sound down.
Am I alone in this?
I'm point blank not watching it next year. 11 year old DD forces me to every year but I can't do it anymore. It's torture.

It’s just filler tv isnt it? My parents are obsessed. We were forced to watch it the other day when they were here. Lots of women with extreme plastic surgery shrieking. And it lasted so long. Just don’t understand the appeal. Like Loose Women I guess.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 21/12/2025 00:15

Didn’t enjoy this years as much as usual

TheAutumnCrow · 21/12/2025 00:19

It has morphed from popularising ballroom dancing to vulgarising showtime dance.

wobblers · 21/12/2025 00:22

Watched it years ago and switched off pretty quickly due to the noise and terrible music covers. The only time I have ever been able to watch it all the way through once is with the sound down and subtitles. It wasn't too bad and because I quite like dance, but I wouldn't bother again.

Swiftie1878 · 21/12/2025 00:22

Turn your TV down?
I love it and have no idea what you’re talking about! It’s fun, energetic and engaging.

this year a celebrity who has Down’s syndrome dancing with a gay man

Is Vito gay?

No.

deveronvalley · 21/12/2025 00:24

All the sobbing and how much everything means to them, I went out to tesco after the second dances, it was all just too much, came back asked my husband who won, job done, tesco was nice and peaceful and I got my Christmas dinner shopping done. Strictly needs to calm down, I’m sure it didn’t used to be as bad as it’s got recently.

Dontgochasingrainbows · 21/12/2025 00:25

I used watch it but stopped a couple of years ago. Its more about the hosts and 'celebrities' than the dancing. I find it dull and repetitive.

DepRosLil · 21/12/2025 00:27

Yanbu.
I think I watched it once back in 2015 and vowed to never again put myself through that.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 21/12/2025 00:28

Fine not to enjoy it, but these threads always attract posts by desperately insecure posters throwing shade on people who enjoy it being somehow lesser than them.

Backtorealityerr · 21/12/2025 00:30

I just find it a fun program to watch on a Saturday night..really quite harmless TBH.

Grandmashorty · 21/12/2025 00:38

I’ve lost interest in it for all the reasons given above. I record and speed through too. I was very cheesed off that that the best dancer went before the final (Lewis).

Mistyglade · 21/12/2025 00:41

NRTFT but I think it was extra raucous tonight because it was Tess & Claud’s swan-song and even the judges calm demeanours were compromised.

Same here, it’s been deteriorating for some time I think.

TheChicDreamer · 21/12/2025 00:55

YANBU, op. It’s awful. Can’t believe it’s still running.

On the contrary, nobody who has complained about the programme, has mentioned the viewers but pls post the 'shade' if I've missed it?

If anything, its the opposite.

Some people who watch it aren't defending the programme. Instead they are getting defensive with comments such as don't watch it /switch channels/people are so insecure/people are dissing the viewers, when literally nobody has said anything about any other viewers other than what they think themselves when they watch it. Its you who is obviously insecure about still watching it.

beezlebubnicky · 21/12/2025 02:15

Nah I get it.

It's not the loudness for me, it's just shit and I hate the godawful covers of songs that the Strictly band do; the arrangements are terrible. I've never understood the appeal.

SunMoonandChocolate · 21/12/2025 02:38

I think it's time to bring it to an end, and this year with Tess and Claudia leaving would have been the perfect time to do it.

I've watched it on and off for years, but they really had to scrape the bottom of the barrel for celebs this year, and while I recorded it each week, I ended up not watching the dancing, just fast forwarded through the results on a Sunday night to see who had gone out, and then this evening, watched a few of the dances, but with very little interest, because as the OP says it's all so OTT these days. As for the Chinese guy weeping and saying how he felt bad because he's never been a team player, Lord give me strength!!!

As far as I'm concerned it's had it's day, and I won't even bother recording it in the future.

lifeisgoodrightnow · 21/12/2025 06:05

We call it ‘strictly c*nts dancing’ in this house.

you are not alone

WillowTit · 21/12/2025 06:10

this is the first year i havent watched it for a long time, but even today i couldnt resist the final group dance and also pointlessly i watched the announcement of the winner!
so much hugging though
diane is amazing, when is she due?

WillowTit · 21/12/2025 06:14

i like Craig though

What's defensive about suggesting that people turn over or switch off? I don't like programmes like IACGMOOH and don't watch them, but I'd say exactly the same thing to people who complained about them. It's a fact that if something isn't to your taste there are alternatives.

SVR16 · 21/12/2025 06:27

I’ve never seen a single episode of it. I just don’t see the appeal but plenty clearly do.

I do feel though that their marketing is very good. Few programmes have as much hype surrounding it as Strictly does. Their marketing budget must be huge and probably needs to be because the product is so dull.

everardshutthatdoor · 21/12/2025 06:30

Yes, I feel the same. So very noisy and flashy, all the hysteria, can’t deal.

SparklyGlitterballs · 21/12/2025 06:46

I do find it a bit much now, for the reasons you gave OP. In the (very) old days, when the show was Come Dancing, it was all about the skill and the steps executed. Now it's about the "celebrity" popularity and keeping in rubbish dancers for the drama. The final show last night could have been much shorter if they'd cut down on all the "journey" stories. I hate too that they string it out over two nights each weekend, when we know it's filmed the same night. The result is leaked every week anyway, so I hope they go back to a one-night format.

My mum is a mega fan. She's 89, used to be a ballroom dancer and has lots of medals. She scrutinises every dance, criticises them to the extreme and moans endlessly about anything she doesn't approve of - good dancers being eliminated, sob stories, a-list celebrities, the inclusivity of disabled/gay/drag queens etc. She makes lists from the first episode of who is dancing with who, what their scores were that week etc. She has wads of paper going back years with this information. Goodness knows why she keeps it (or cares). It's maddening.
