Is there something wrong with me or is there anyone else who can't cope with Strictly

I can't cope with it.
I've watched this series.
I watch it every year with DC.
Just watched the final.
It's soooooo noisy. So incredibly loud. The non stop screaming when they get their scores. The jumping up and punching the air. The shouting. The schrieking. The cheering. The super loud music. The staged acting. The horrendous booming music when the judges do that thing where they dress up in silly props. Claudia's relentless shouting.
OMG.
I can't stand this format and I'm sure it didn't used to be like this years ago.
I'm sure I used to feel relaxed whilst watching.
Now when I watch it I feel stressed and spend the whole time turning the sound down.
Am I alone in this?
I'm point blank not watching it next year. 11 year old DD forces me to every year but I can't do it anymore. It's torture.

this year a celebrity who has Down’s syndrome dancing with a gay man

Is Vito gay?

No , I got carried away 🤦🏻‍♀️ but hopefully my point still stands.
Vito is an absolute gem.

I can’t stand the audience clapping to every single bit of music and the amount of pointless yakking that means three minutes’ dance and ten minutes’ filler. The whole programme is designed to be like a soap opera with viewers hugely invested in the personalities. It’s not about dance, which I would love if it were.

littleblackcat1 · 21/12/2025 07:51

Everything you say is true OP. I skimmed over it last night. Couldn’t bear to watch the last dances as I’m so confused by what the judges see as their criteria for a good dance. It changes from dance to dance and with each contestant. It’s stressing me out!

Oh, and seeing Lewis standing there smiling and nodding for a whole two hours amongst all this noisy hype. What a shame!

TheaBrandt1 · 21/12/2025 07:53

I assume it’s for the elderly or those with a lot of time. It goes on and on. My parents are obsessed with it and talk about the contestants like they know them. Maybe in retirement you have more headspace.

PersephoneParlormaid · 21/12/2025 07:54

I liked it when it was more of a dance competition, not so fond of it now. We record it and just fast forward to the dances and scores.

Goldenbear · 21/12/2025 07:58

No, I don't like it but I fell like that about pretty much all BBC 1 and ITV Saturday evening TV shows!

Nitgel · 21/12/2025 08:01

I resent paying the livcence for bbc tv. Endless celebrity cooking baking dancing charity shows. And bbc news reporting on it. No

littleblackcat1 · 21/12/2025 08:01

…the judges know what a good dance should look look like. I used to enjoy it when they gave quality criticism based on their expertise. Darcey did this. I felt like I was learning something. It was fascinating and informative.

pilates · 21/12/2025 08:02

I used to love it but agree it is now predictable and boring. Hoping there will be a fresh injection with the new presenters. Zoe Ball would be good.

MrsJamin · 21/12/2025 08:03

I used to love it, caught up with the "it takes two" programming the week and everything. Now I just watch the recording and fast forward to just watch the dances and the scores. The talking bits are so dull and formulaic and I just don't care that much what they say. There are too many couples, it's far too long, they need to stop lying that the results show is filmed Saturday, and the screaming needs to stop. The whole thing needs a shake up along with the presenter change.

However, in the spirit of honesty, DH and I did delay going out to the pub for 10 minutes or so as we were captivated by The Wheel quiz programme and were rooting for the woman to win her house deposit and wanted to know if we were right with the answers to the final question!

There is worse out there. Naked Attraction for one. And another one with naked people getting voted off. I don't know what it's called.

Never seen strictly, happened upon naked attraction by accident and thought tv couldnt sink any lower.

might be tempted to watch naked strictly though 🤣🤣

Dancingsquirrels · 21/12/2025 08:10

I used to like it, but now, it's all forced fun, too much chat, Z list celebrities and I think the brand has been tainted by sleaze. Claudia and Tess wise to leave a sinking ship

Interesting that new hosts haven't been announced. Perhaps this will be the last series

connie26 · 21/12/2025 08:20

I don't watch it for the exact same reasons. Can't be doing with all that bloody shreiking. Also, I'm bored of it.

TheaBrandt1 · 21/12/2025 08:55

The luvvie ness and the fawning is excruciating to watch. Maybe if you watch it regularly it’s normal for you but watching it randomly after not for ages it was pretty dire and embarrassing.

Pedallleur · 21/12/2025 08:57

The good news is other channels are available and there is an off button.

Nushi21 · 21/12/2025 09:02

I find myself unable to cope with a lot of noise and action in many situations. Like noisy shows or even my kids and their devices around me.
I’ve been having to remove myself or put everyone’s volume down to be able to think straight or have a moment. It stresses me out. Like I’m overwhelmed and literally topping at the edge of a cliff.
I was able to zone out before but now I feel like a superpower of being able to hear everything and like it’s all increased in volume.
I don’t even know if this is related to the subject here but I’m glad I got it off my chest.
I haven’t watched strictly in a few years. Can’t stand the hosts.

Shedmistress · 21/12/2025 09:02

It is and always has been utterly horrendous. I've never watched one of them, I started watching one at the beginning because my niece was starting ballroom dancing but couldn't face a whole programme. And it's just got worse from clips that get shown randomly on news and social media.

MyPeppyCat · 21/12/2025 09:02

I can't hack it (or other shows like it) either. I find the noise and graphics exhausting. I suspect I am on the autism or HSP spectrum to some degree.

MyOliveStork · 21/12/2025 09:03

No completely agree.
we have been saying the last few years that the screaming and shouting is too much. It’s just over egged and difficult to watch. We tune in each week to ‘have a look’ but then switch off.

PlazaAthenee · 21/12/2025 09:04

The do screech an awful lot. The emotional interviews in the Claude-atorium do my head in. Nothing in life needs that level of noise and excitement. (Unkess you're six, in which case crack on).

Did she win it?

popcornandpotatoes · 21/12/2025 09:14

It's the crying that gets me. Literally shaking sobbing. It's dancing. I can't bear to watch it but we had it on last night as DD was still up and it was the only appropriate thing on to watch. At one point one of the dancers was sobbing over his partner how he didn't deserve it or something, it was truly bizarre and nauseating

ArcticGrass · 21/12/2025 09:18

Haven’t watched it for a couple of years, but before always watched on catch up in order to fast forward over everything except the dancing really….

Lifeispeacefulthere · 21/12/2025 09:19

I watch it and enjoy the dances, I do start watching late though and fast forward through most of it except for the dances and scores and sometimes judges comments. Couldn't watch the whole lot. I don't bother with the results show either, Strictly Spoiler for me.
