Liverpool attacker sentenced

Paul Doyle, the Liverpool parade attacker, has been sentenced to twenty one years and six months in prison for his attack that injured 134 people.

That’s 258 months, or less than two months per person injured. He’ll be out in half, so 129 months served. Less than one month per person. Reading the victim impact statements was awful. One from a little boy, who is completely traumatised, stuck with me.

AIBU to think this is a farce?!

I’m not defending anyone, I’m just choosing not to decide I know everything about everything.

He did a horrific and unforgivable thing and received a commensurate sentence for it.

You’ve decided, without any information whatsoever, that his wife is to blame, his children are to blame, he’s displayed violent and angry behaviour in the last 20 years and that his character witnesses are all lying….

You are, in fact, the one displaying utterly weird behaviour.

His wife and kids have done nothing wrong. He's the issue here. Only him. If he had displayed rage behind the wheel multiple times - was his wife supposed to walk into a police station and say my husband suffers from rage behind the wheel - they would have laughed her out of the place

It is entirely possible that he had not displayed rage behind the wheel before this happened

Agreed.

I think a lot of that PTSD stuff was parroted around by people defending him when it first happened, and now by idiots who haven't read or have ignored the full details of the case.

Unless you sat in the courtroom for every minute of the case then you have no idea what the 'full details' are. If you think what you read in the media counts then you're a fool.

And even if you had sat there, you, or anyone else in that room, would still not have the full and comprehensive picture of what really happened and why.

user1492538376 · 16/12/2025 22:23

I think yes he deserves the sentence. The emergency services say it was a miracle no
one was killed - in his rage he didn't care or values the lives of those he rammed his car into. And though he hasnt been convicted of anything in 30 years he clearly has a nasty temper - who knows what else he has done in that time.

ConstitutionHill · 16/12/2025 22:30

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but I'm sure his wife/partner can have been no stranger to his explosive rage.

Not this again. What is the point of blaming his wife- there were multiple statements from people who knew him backing his character. Come on. No one on here can say his wife and kids witnessed rage. That's just conjecture

In that had he attacked an affluent area of London I doubt the news would be running stories about him being the “nice neighbour” and a man with “two sides”

The media does this with everyone. Look at the bondi beach killers with students who went to high school with the youngest killer saying how normal and nice he was. It’s meant to shock us that someone so ‘normal’ can do something so horrific, and the media do it every time. I don’t think it’s unique to his particular case.

labamba18 · 16/12/2025 22:36

What also isn’t new is blaming a woman for a man’s anger. That’s been going on since the dawn of time.

Fernsrus · 16/12/2025 22:42

I think it’s really odd that he’s spent 30 years sorting his life out, then does that. I wonder why, fundamentally? I haven’t RTFT.

That's the part that makes no sense

BeardofHagrid · 16/12/2025 22:45

The crowd was full of violent people who smashed his back windows and were kicking lumps out of his car. No wonder he snapped.

I know of a woman who drowned her child in the bath, she got four years. Huw Edwards got nothing for his horrific crimes! The judges just make up whatever they feel like.

BluePeterAdventWreath · 16/12/2025 22:45

i wonder what happens to his wife and family. I feel sorry for them potentially losing house etc of mortgaged. They will be indirectly punished for life now.

Isn't it. The wife should have known and should have done something. Eff right off. He's the issue. No one else

He was 54 when this happened so potentially the mortgage has been paid off. If not - I assume they'll have to sell and downsize

sittingonabeach · 16/12/2025 22:49

@BeardofHagrid if the road was closed and full of people what did you expect people to do when a car came towards them and there was nowhere for the people (including children to go). They wanted to stop the car

Are you for real. Have you seen the footage. I've just watched it. He's screaming move move move at people. Nothing justifies him trapping an elderly woman under his car and launching a 6 month old babies pram into the air. They were banging on his car to get him to stop

You're a fucking disgrace. He injured 124 people in the space of two minutes

I feel as though a part of the jigsaw is missing. I think he deserves his sentence but what was really going on with him, nobody knows. I don’t think it’s just road rage, and nothing underneath that. It doesn’t make sense, does it.

He committed GBH with intent. That’s a crime that carries a life sentence. I’ve yet to see an argument against a life sentence that isn’t just “nobody died”, which is in part down to the very brave fans who opened his car and confronted him.

My ex was charged with GBH with intent and false imprisonment, both can carry life sentences but he got 10 years in total. He only injured me though, Paul Doyle injured over 100 people so I do think he got off lightly with 21 years.

sittingonabeach · 16/12/2025 22:52

If you accidentally drove into a road that was closed and full of people, wouldn't you just stop, or ask people to help you reverse to get out of the way, not carry on going trying to ram people and then driving straight at them

HonoriaBulstrode · 16/12/2025 22:52

I didn't realise he was already showing rage and erratic behaviour before he got to the parade. So probably he didn't find himself stuck there by accident and panicking as a result.

He'd already driven into the city once that day, to drop off his friends who were going the parade. So it didn't come as a surprise to him. And anyway, anyone who lives in Liverpool must know what to expect if Liverpool FC were having a parade.

And presumably if there had been any issues on the first trip, the police carrying out the investigation would have found evidence of it. (And the friends would have made some excuse not to have a lift back from him.)

Roobarbtwo · 16/12/2025 22:52

If someone hadn't jumped into the back of his car and stopped the car he would have injured more people. Go watch the footage where he's screaming move move fucking move at people and then drives his car into another group of people and then get back to me

Have you bothered to watch the footage? He was running red lights and driving very erratically before he was anywhere near the crowd.

It was said that only some crimes were brought before the jury due to the sheer number of people he injured

She's not defending him. I think you need to take a deep breath and step away from this thread for a while.

No it doesn't. It makes no sense why he would snap like that. As soon as he was arrested he said I've ruined mine and other peoples lives so he knew what he had done

You are a complete and utter disgrace. He was driving erratically and dangerously long before he reached the city centre. People only began banging on his car when they realised he had no intention of stopping - at one point he slammed into reverse and crashed into an ambulance.
I am astonished that anyone could defend this behaviour, he is a violent thug who is very lucky he didn't kill someone.
