Been banned from my local nail salon

I started going to a new salon a few months ago. I went three times and to be honest, I was never totally happy with the service I had been receiving. The atmosphere wasn't as welcoming as I liked and the results weren't what I was happy to pay for. So I decided to just do my own from now on.

My mum goes to the same nail salon, and the owner asked her why I had cancelled my appointments. Because she was put on the spot, my mum told her that I was now working Saturdays as well, so couldn't go anymore.

Yesterday I was getting my hair done and the owner of this old salon walked in and sat down next to me. She clocked it was me, sort of looked me up and down in surprise, and turned away from me. It was a bit awkward but it's not the end of the world, in my view.

This morning I've woken up to this email from them:

"(My name),
This message serves as formal notice that you are prohibited from booking or receiving services at any of our nail salons across the (local) area, effective immediately.
This decision has been made at ownership level following a review of your conduct. We have concluded that you provided false and misleading information regarding your availability and intentions as a client. On that basis, we believe your actions amount to a misrepresentation of circumstances and may be considered fraudulent in nature.
As a business, we reserve the absolute right to refuse service where we believe honesty and trust have been compromised. This determination is final.
Any current or future appointments made under your name, or on your behalf, will be cancelled without notice. Do not contact the business regarding this matter.
(Owner’s name)"

AIBU or is this really not necessary? I'd understand if I was a long standing client who had been going for years, but I'd been three times. I don't really see what's fraudulent about it?!

That’s insane! What a strange way to run a business.

I know! Very odd indeed

InMyOodie · 14/12/2025 12:03

Did you complain about your nails or refuse to pay? Otherwise the email seems nuts if you cancelled with plenty of notice.

No, I just decided it was a bit of a waste of money to go and get them done when I wasn’t 100% happy, so I bought the stuff and decided to do it myself from now on

Mental.

KimuraTan · 14/12/2025 12:09

I’d put this on your town FB site to warn others about the nutjob owner. What a bizarre way to run her business. You’re entitled to excuse yourself in any way you wish and the same goes for your mother.

Orangeorganic · 14/12/2025 12:09

That is literally insane. You’re not under contract to get your nails done there or to never have plans on a Saturday, that is absolutely mental

I’d usually say stay away from this drama but absolutely same. I’d say I’m concerned she’s not coping with the Christmas stress and having an episode because that email is beyond weird, especially when you haven’t tried to book in and haven’t seen her since November.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 14/12/2025 12:10

I'd view that as absolutely hilarious

You gotta tell everyone

Goodadvice1980 · 14/12/2025 12:11

KittyFinlay · 14/12/2025 11:42

I'd post it to facebook/insta and tag them saying, "Just a heads up to everyone that someone must have hacked into (Rusty Nail Salon)'s account and is sending these weird and unprofessional emails. I'm not a customer and haven't been since (date) but hope you manage to get it sorted before anyone else gets one of these!"

This is genius 😂

Penisbeakeralltheclassics · 14/12/2025 12:13

It’s the fumes 😂

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 14/12/2025 12:13

If your mum wasn’t still going there I’d probably have to write something online as would feel exactly the same as you - you’ve done nothing wrong and the way that is written it’s as though you are a criminal.

Obviously completely grey-rocking the woman and her business is better for your blood pressure as it will all go away a lot quicker. What does your mum think? In her position I’d be supporting you and no longer using the salon.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 14/12/2025 12:15

Quite mad. I wouldn’t reply as she might reply back, plus you don’t want your mum to suffer, I suspect. You could start doing your mum’s nails, too…

Wishimaywishimight · 14/12/2025 12:15

If this is real I would just respond; "Fraud? Don't be so utterly ridiculous."

Sartre · 14/12/2025 12:16

Wow, this is next level batshittery. Sounds like you’ve had a lucky escape.

raspberrieswithchocolate · 14/12/2025 12:16

alittlebittiredallthetime · 14/12/2025 11:23

I'm just a bit pissed off that I've woken up to an email accusing me of fraud when I've just stopped going to a nail salon!

I'm not surprised, the reaction from the owner of the salon is bizarre!

RoamingToaster · 14/12/2025 12:18

This is so odd. Even if you were a regular long time customer you don’t owe a business anything. You’re not under contract. I could maybe understand someone reaching out in that situation to ask if you have any feedback but chasing someone up after three appointments and banning them is just bizarre. Surely she must know this could have an effect on your mum giving them business? So so odd.

Dollymylove · 14/12/2025 12:18

That's insane!
I would reply to the email and tell their service is shit and thats why you wont be going again

Billybagpuss · 14/12/2025 12:18

I bet there’s others that have had similar experiences

honestly it’s hilarious

StephensLass1977 · 14/12/2025 12:18

What! You literally owe them absolutely nothing! It's a free country, you go when you want, and don't go when you don't want. This is absolutely bizarre and insane! 'Your intentions as a client". You don't owe them any explanations nor do you have some sort of legally defined schedule with them. Why are they being so heavy handed? Which of course means sod all.

This is one of the weirdest things I have ever seen.

Alittlefrustrated · 14/12/2025 12:18

Tee hee 🤣

mindutopia · 14/12/2025 12:18

This would make me laugh so much. 😂 And I’d be leaving them some fun reviews.

It’s a bloody nail salon. No one even needs their stupid nails done. You’re allowed to just choose not to use a business’s services anymore. I stopped drinking, so I no longer go to my local shop to buy wine several times a week. What next? Are they going to send me a cease and desist letter because I no longer use their shop? 🤣 So what?

I bet the only reason they even recognised you, given you’ve only ever been 3 times, is because they do this shit a lot and don’t have many customers. I bet you will discover you aren’t the first to have received this email! I know someone who sends emails like this every time someone doesn’t let them get their way. No kidding, but the entire village has now received one, and his employer, and both his children’s schools, and he is the butt of every joke for being such an obvious twat.

TheLemonLemur · 14/12/2025 12:19

They are totally over the top. Even though you aren't going back I would be annoyed at the email also and would leave a factual review online

Orangemintcream · 14/12/2025 12:19

They sound absolutely unhinged.

I would put exactly what you’ve written here on to your local FB or local review site.

Rudolph23 · 14/12/2025 12:20

They sound insane. YANBU!

SergeantWrinkles · 14/12/2025 12:20

That is utterly batshit!

AprilinPortugal · 14/12/2025 12:20

alittlebittiredallthetime · 14/12/2025 11:23

I'm just a bit pissed off that I've woken up to an email accusing me of fraud when I've just stopped going to a nail salon!

Email them back and tell them the real reason why? I mean how dare they? It's not like you owe them money or anything! They have no right to do that and because I'm petty, I'd be replying telling them they're shit! 😄
