Been banned from my local nail salon

I started going to a new salon a few months ago. I went three times and to be honest, I was never totally happy with the service I had been receiving. The atmosphere wasn't as welcoming as I liked and the results weren't what I was happy to pay for. So I decided to just do my own from now on.

My mum goes to the same nail salon, and the owner asked her why I had cancelled my appointments. Because she was put on the spot, my mum told her that I was now working Saturdays as well, so couldn't go anymore.

Yesterday I was getting my hair done and the owner of this old salon walked in and sat down next to me. She clocked it was me, sort of looked me up and down in surprise, and turned away from me. It was a bit awkward but it's not the end of the world, in my view.

This morning I've woken up to this email from them:

"(My name),
This message serves as formal notice that you are prohibited from booking or receiving services at any of our nail salons across the (local) area, effective immediately.
This decision has been made at ownership level following a review of your conduct. We have concluded that you provided false and misleading information regarding your availability and intentions as a client. On that basis, we believe your actions amount to a misrepresentation of circumstances and may be considered fraudulent in nature.
As a business, we reserve the absolute right to refuse service where we believe honesty and trust have been compromised. This determination is final.
Any current or future appointments made under your name, or on your behalf, will be cancelled without notice. Do not contact the business regarding this matter.
(Owner’s name)"

AIBU or is this really not necessary? I'd understand if I was a long standing client who had been going for years, but I'd been three times. I don't really see what's fraudulent about it?!

I would respond to her email qnd tell her you weren't coming back anyway and liar the reasons why!. Obviously your mum can't go there anymore either

MrsMoastyToasty · 14/12/2025 20:28

I would reply with something like
" I'll take my custom to one of your competitors "

HildegardP · 14/12/2025 20:50

Seems like wingnut & so you're well shot of her. All that legally illiterate pomposity of hers makes for an amusing anecdote & it's worth nothing more of your consideration.

Edited for dyslexia

Dawnintheageofaquariams · 14/12/2025 21:43

Email back 'TTFN cunts'
Job done

Theslummymummy · 14/12/2025 23:50

Absolutely mental! Please please reply telling her she's batshit.

alittlebittiredallthetime · 14/12/2025 13:58

I went on their website to help my mum book her next appointment and the slot was gone

The email is crazy and the woman sounds unhinged. Who does business like that.

What an absolute idiot she is.

I'd just ignore it and she'll probably wonder if your received it.

MO0N · 15/12/2025 00:05

Joking aside, the best response is surely no response?
Because ... dont wrestle with a pig, you know the rest and this woman will be more trouble than she is worth.

Huckleberries · 14/12/2025 11:37

How does she alienate them? What does she do?

Honestly @alittlebittiredallthetime I would think that email had been sent to you by mistake. It might be meant for someone else.

She has massive rows with regulars and they take their custom elsewhere. It's happened multiple times, I'm surprised everytime a new set of regulars forms and wonder how long they'll last before they've had enough.

NorwayTruce · 15/12/2025 08:38

Send her a link to this thread. She needs a dose of reality

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 15/12/2025 12:17

That message is hilarious, I can't believe you're reacting so seriously.

Megifer · 15/12/2025 12:22

Id have screenshot that to my local FB page within 5 mins of receiving it saying all you did was dated to stop going.

Id want to know if the owner of the salon i went to was an absolute nutcase 😂

GlitteryRainbow · 17/12/2025 11:56

alittlebittiredallthetime · 14/12/2025 11:23

I'm just a bit pissed off that I've woken up to an email accusing me of fraud when I've just stopped going to a nail salon!

Email back and tell them you will sue them for libel if they don’t withdraw their accusation of fraud. See how they like that.

BauhausOfEliott · 17/12/2025 13:22

The reaction is perhaps a bit OTT but your mum's decision to lie is odder IMO.

There is nothing really 'odd' about someone feeling awkward when put on the spot and making something up to tactfully fob someone off rather than saying 'She's cancelled because she thinks your services are crap and overpriced'.

There is something very, very odd indeed about sending an angry email about 'conduct' to someone who [checks notes] cancelled a nail appointment a full three weeks before the appointment was due, well within the salon's stated cancellation period.

The salon really shouldn't be demanding to know why a client cancels anyway - it's none of their business why the client can't make it.

And they certainly shouldn't be making that demand of someone who isn't even the cancelling client but just happens to be related to them. It's a nail appointment, ffs, not a school PE lesson. The OP's mum isn't responsible for her.

The salon owner is nuts. Her response isn't 'perhaps a bit OTT', it's very definitely fucking insane.

BauhausOfEliott · 17/12/2025 13:30

LittleMi55Nobody · 14/12/2025 13:27

was you getting your hair done on a saturday when your mum had fibbed you work on a saturday ?

Yes she was, but that doesn't matter because it's none of the salon owner's business. If the salon owner was in any way sane, she would a) not have questioned the OP's mother in the first place and b) upon seeing her ex-client at the hairdresser's on a Saturday would simply have thought 'She doesn't actually work on Saturdays then - oh well, you win some you lose some' and said nothing whatsoever about it.

sundaysurfing · 17/12/2025 15:12

I think you should start your own gel nail company and be her competition

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 17/12/2025 15:16

Ha! That’s batshit. Would be straight on the local FB with a screenshot of that 😂🍿

”I’m worried this business owner has been hacked, apparently got this strange message from their address, weird because I know they know I’ve only ever abided by their cancellation policies etc? Anyone else had anything similar 🤔”

madaboutpurple · 17/12/2025 15:30

I agree with others on here ,advise her to look at Mumsnet and she will see what we all think of someone who sends mad messages to customers. She would probably realise she comes across to most sane people as totally crazy. Also does she want her staff to not be liked as most people would go elsewhere rather than deal with a salon owner like her. I am sure a lot of us have possibly been asked to leave a more worthy venue than a nail salon. The owner is I am sad to say a mad woman.

angelos02 · 17/12/2025 15:55

That is nuts! Even if you'd been going for 30 years, you aren't beholden to them. I don't have a regular hairdresser or anything like that. I just go where I fancy. Didn't realise there was such an expectation of loyalty! I'm middle-aged too - can't believe this was a 'thing'!

HorrorPudding · 17/12/2025 16:04

I’d share the whole message widely on local social media and just say that you accidentally only gave three weeks notice of cancelling an appointment and failed to give a watertight reason for doing so that was deemed good enough by the salon owner so she has sent this formal email. You are sharing it so that others are aware of the rules as set out by her AI lawyer. Then sit back and enjoy. I suspect her business is going tits up anyway.

Modernfamily2011 · 17/12/2025 23:16

Your mum did NOTHING wrong, why some people have to criticise is beyond me…. She was put on the spot and i’d bet most people also would have lied…oh and the pp commenting on illegal trafficking 🙄🙄🙄
I would post her email on your local FB group!

Huckleberries · 17/12/2025 23:20

ThreeRandomWordz · 15/12/2025 06:53

She has massive rows with regulars and they take their custom elsewhere. It's happened multiple times, I'm surprised everytime a new set of regulars forms and wonder how long they'll last before they've had enough.

So she starts rows with people on purpose

I guess these people do it for entertainment, but I don't understand at all

why do they do it? And do they have any normal relationships? It's a puzzle.

JHound · 18/12/2025 00:33

That’s really weird.
