Been banned from my local nail salon

I started going to a new salon a few months ago. I went three times and to be honest, I was never totally happy with the service I had been receiving. The atmosphere wasn't as welcoming as I liked and the results weren't what I was happy to pay for. So I decided to just do my own from now on.

My mum goes to the same nail salon, and the owner asked her why I had cancelled my appointments. Because she was put on the spot, my mum told her that I was now working Saturdays as well, so couldn't go anymore.

Yesterday I was getting my hair done and the owner of this old salon walked in and sat down next to me. She clocked it was me, sort of looked me up and down in surprise, and turned away from me. It was a bit awkward but it's not the end of the world, in my view.

This morning I've woken up to this email from them:

"(My name),
This message serves as formal notice that you are prohibited from booking or receiving services at any of our nail salons across the (local) area, effective immediately.
This decision has been made at ownership level following a review of your conduct. We have concluded that you provided false and misleading information regarding your availability and intentions as a client. On that basis, we believe your actions amount to a misrepresentation of circumstances and may be considered fraudulent in nature.
As a business, we reserve the absolute right to refuse service where we believe honesty and trust have been compromised. This determination is final.
Any current or future appointments made under your name, or on your behalf, will be cancelled without notice. Do not contact the business regarding this matter.
(Owner’s name)"

AIBU or is this really not necessary? I'd understand if I was a long standing client who had been going for years, but I'd been three times. I don't really see what's fraudulent about it?!

This email is batshit. That said, your mum shouldn’t have lied and it was a strange thing to do. I assume she won’t be going back either as would be even more awkward to explain why she lied!

I completely understand why she did though, it's not a whole lie either as I am picking up overtime as and where I can. But she was put on the spot (I have no idea why the owner even confronted her about it?! We're separate people) and didn't want to say it was because I don't like the salon, because she was about to get her nails done

The woman is fucking nuts.

RosyDawn · 14/12/2025 11:42

That’s a bonkers email for so many reasons. Including that you actually haven’t given her any information at all so how on earth could she claim you’ve given her false and misleading information. It was your mother who shared that not you. Maybe she should ban your mother.

upstairsdownstairscardboardbox · 14/12/2025 11:42

That's hilarious. I'd reply with LOL and snigger every time I walked past. Having a tantrum like a 3 year old is no way to run a small business, I bet they don't last long!

KittyFinlay · 14/12/2025 11:42

I'd post it to facebook/insta and tag them saying, "Just a heads up to everyone that someone must have hacked into (Rusty Nail Salon)'s account and is sending these weird and unprofessional emails. I'm not a customer and haven't been since (date) but hope you manage to get it sorted before anyone else gets one of these!"

JudgeBread · 14/12/2025 11:43

That's a butt hurt owner if I've ever seen one. How bizarre, acting like a jilted ex because you stopped going there!

I'm petty so I'd be tempted to post it publicly and shame them.

Onlyhereforthebatshitneighbours · 14/12/2025 11:43

That's insane and totally batshit lol What a total numpty

Hectoring your mum was bad enough but that email is another level of batshittery. Definitely share the experience on a review site - personally I think fb. Create a group for the Fraudulent Clients of Xxxx Nail Salon and wait for everyone else to join

Hayley1256 · 14/12/2025 11:43

I would just respond with laughing crying face emojis

Yup, I use the term “butt hurt” a lot and this moron is the dictionary definition 😀

Alisonica · 14/12/2025 11:45

hahaha! It's a nail salon. You can cancel your appointment within their T&Cs and that's your right. There is nothing fraudulent about that. Sounds like a thin-skinned and weird person and totally unsuited to business ownership. Is she stressed about the business failing or something? Not that it is your problem.

GhislaineDeFeligondeRose · 14/12/2025 11:46

It's funny that they banned you after you decided to stop going anyway 😀
Totally bonkers

101Nutella · 14/12/2025 11:46

Even if you were working Saturdays you can take annual leave and have a Saturday off! So a really strange reply!

You can't fire me because I QUIT! 😂

crazeekat · 14/12/2025 11:49

Owner clearly has issues. Bellend.

skyeisthelimit · 14/12/2025 11:49

That is absolutely batshit. Obviously a very sad petty little person.

You cannot do anything fraudulent by going to another salon so the letter is complete bollocks anyway.

Just write LOL on it and send it back Grin Grin.

or if you have a friend with legal knowledge, get them to help you draft a batshit response back, about defamation of character or something Grin

just warn everyone you know that the owner is batshit and if they use the salon they are tied there for life and will never be allowed to leave. Grin

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 14/12/2025 11:50

Print it out and frame it

ChocolateCinderToffee · 14/12/2025 11:51

She's nuts. She's running a business in an extremely competitive field and (apparently) thinks she doesn't need the money of anyone who won't commit to multiple appointments? Let her get on with it.

Cailleachnamara · 14/12/2025 11:53

This woman is absolutely batshit OP. It's outrageous for her to have sent you that. I'd go as far as to say it is a malicious communication, and by sending it she is potentially breaching data protection laws by misusing her use of your email address.

I think you have 2 options depending on your personality type. Either you go into her salon at her busiest time and basically read her the riot act over her behaviour in front if her customers, or you laugh it off and forget about it. I'd go for whichever is within your comfort zone and would make you feel better.

As for the people on here having a go at your mum - wtaf? She had to think of something uncontentious to say when put on the spot! She should never have been put in that position. It's well seen this woman has a monopoly locally or her business wouldn't survive her behaving like this.

Littlebuddh · 14/12/2025 11:54

I would have replied with.
Thank you your email as been received loud and clear and now been deleted.

Kind regards.

LegoWig · 14/12/2025 11:59

I’d love to put the wind up her and reply with “I have forwarded your email to my solicitor and will advise you shortly if I am taking further action as I consider it to be libellous. I have also forwarded it to all my contacts who are customers of yours so that they are aware of the situation.”

FreyasCats · 14/12/2025 12:00

The owner's nuts. You're allowed to go wherever you like or do your own nails.

I honestly think sometimes around 98% of the human race has gone completely insane. It's like Invasion of the Body snatchers or something.

She's not going to last long if that's her attitude.

CabernetAndCocoMelon · 14/12/2025 12:01

Fraudulent made me LOL I would respond via email and tell them you cancelled due to the quality of their work. Very unprofessional of them also

InMyOodie · 14/12/2025 12:03

Did you complain about your nails or refuse to pay? Otherwise the email seems nuts if you cancelled with plenty of notice.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 14/12/2025 12:03

It's lunatic behaviour and no way to run a business but tbh, no great loss for you as you said you felt the service was lacking anyway.

Lavender14 · 14/12/2025 12:06

Did you complain/criticise what you got done previously/ ask them to fix nails? Did you pay the full price every time even though you weren't happy with them?
