Been banned from my local nail salon

I started going to a new salon a few months ago. I went three times and to be honest, I was never totally happy with the service I had been receiving. The atmosphere wasn't as welcoming as I liked and the results weren't what I was happy to pay for. So I decided to just do my own from now on.

My mum goes to the same nail salon, and the owner asked her why I had cancelled my appointments. Because she was put on the spot, my mum told her that I was now working Saturdays as well, so couldn't go anymore.

Yesterday I was getting my hair done and the owner of this old salon walked in and sat down next to me. She clocked it was me, sort of looked me up and down in surprise, and turned away from me. It was a bit awkward but it's not the end of the world, in my view.

This morning I've woken up to this email from them:

"(My name),
This message serves as formal notice that you are prohibited from booking or receiving services at any of our nail salons across the (local) area, effective immediately.
This decision has been made at ownership level following a review of your conduct. We have concluded that you provided false and misleading information regarding your availability and intentions as a client. On that basis, we believe your actions amount to a misrepresentation of circumstances and may be considered fraudulent in nature.
As a business, we reserve the absolute right to refuse service where we believe honesty and trust have been compromised. This determination is final.
Any current or future appointments made under your name, or on your behalf, will be cancelled without notice. Do not contact the business regarding this matter.
(Owner’s name)"

AIBU or is this really not necessary? I'd understand if I was a long standing client who had been going for years, but I'd been three times. I don't really see what's fraudulent about it?!

Just delete and move on. The only person I'd share with is your mother so she can decide if she wants the crazy lady's staff doing her nails. Posting it online or "having it out with her" is just inviting unwanted drama into your life.

Mindfulmother01 · 14/12/2025 13:54

Google review.

MyDeftDuck · 14/12/2025 13:55

Well……..they’re ain’t that clever that they couldn’t reckon on you potentially having a day off from your job and having your hair done!!!

Sound like power crazy, batshit crazy salon operators with a teeny weeny tiny minuscule knowledge of business management and fuck all knowledge of customer service!

Friendlygingercat · 14/12/2025 13:57

I had one customer buy a vintage brooch from me. She then sent a snitty message berating me for buying goods at auction and reselling them. She felt that buying at auction should only be available to collectors. I sent her a nice message expressing sympathy that she had missed out at auction sales. However this is something that happens to all auction buyers when another bidder has deeper pockets. Rather then being molified she sent an abusive reply that people like me were underhand, dishonest and greedy. I refunded her money, cancelled the sale and blocked her. Buyers are free to purchase from any business, just as businesses are free to refuse potentially troublesome clients. In my experience a customer who causes problems before you even ship the item (or provide the service) is likely to turn into the buyer from hell when they get it.

Not doubting you, but how do you know that?

Agree with PPs - the owner is clearly insane.

I went on their website to help my mum book her next appointment and the slot was gone

Not sure why anyone is having a go at your poor mum, she was put on the spot! However wondering are you going to tell your mum? Assume the salon owner might give her grief/ask further about you when she goes back. Imagine your mum probably won’t want to go there either. I live in a small city where there are probably…10 places I could get my nails done. Majority are Vietnamese and quality is hit or miss & experience is not nice but they’re cheap & quick. Other places you’ve got book really far in advance and workmanship is better but often the appointments take a ridiculously long time. Finding a good place seems hard.

GeorgeClooneyshouldhavemarriedme · 14/12/2025 14:05

Well I would be going in to show her the result of doing your own nails.

You only need to show her one finger.
You know which one.

I'm just a bit pissed off that I've woken up to an email accusing me of fraud when I've just stopped going to a nail salon!

She must be a mumsnetter to describe this as fraud 😂😂

CatchTheWind1920 · 14/12/2025 14:07

Id leave a review, and paste email

SqishySqashmas · 14/12/2025 14:07

This is totally bizarre. You are under no obligation to get your nails done there. She sounds like she's addicted to drama - so unprofessional!

UxmalFan · 14/12/2025 14:09

This isn't Chat GPT is
it, set in motion by an angry salon owner after a few drinks?

BlondeBonBon · 14/12/2025 14:12

Bloody hell, the nail lady is bonkers! You’ve done nothing wrong.

your poor mum was only trying not to upset the nail lady and she should have realised it was a polite excuse. Your mum didn’t owe her any explanation

Alpacajigsaw · 14/12/2025 14:13

That’s so ridiculous that the only appropriate response is to laugh 😂 I’d probably copy and paste it onto their SM, but maybe I’m vindictive

Cherrysoup · 14/12/2025 14:16

Blimey, the owner is quite mad! I echo pp, copy and paste the crazy lady’s message onto a review page.

Seriestwo · 14/12/2025 14:17

Send her a link to this thread.

zurala · 14/12/2025 14:19

If this was in my small town, it would be going on all the local Facebook groups as a warning to others.

ThatBlackCat · 14/12/2025 14:20

Seriestwo · 14/12/2025 14:17

Send her a link to this thread.

I'd do this.

BillieWiper · 14/12/2025 14:20

Haha. They barred you because you quit?! Yeah that makes sense.

What a bunch of absolute tools. Just leave them an appalling review stating what was said in the email.

I was gonna say do your own, then stand outside the salon window, waggling your fingers to show nails off, and laughing maniacally 🙂

ThreeRandomWordz · 14/12/2025 11:30

That makes sense. My aunt owns a coffee shop and frequently alienates customers. The only reason the business is successful is that the shop is in the perfect location. Otherwise it would have gone under years ago.

OP I'd just roll my eyes and encourage everyone I knew not to go there.

Edited

Ooooh, not in Shropshire is she? If she is I bet it’s my local coffee shop. Lovely staff, great food, but the owner is awful. Alienated loads of customers!

Bananaandmangosmoothie · 14/12/2025 14:22

What? I’d be tempted to post it on the local Facebook page 😂

GroundControlToMajorTomCat · 14/12/2025 14:25

I don’t know why your mum is getting a hard time on here, that’s exactly the kind of thing I would do too. I’m such an awkward person and if I’m put on the spot I’ll just splutter out any old lie. I wish I could be normal 😂.

AutumnAllTheWay · 14/12/2025 14:25

This is one of the maddest things I've ever read!

Unhinged.

I would share what they've sent you in a Google and TrustPilot review. What absolute insanity.
