My husband wears the same jumper and jeans for 3 days in row ..

He sees nothing wrong with it at all and doesn’t understand my reasoning. I completely disagree. Obviously if his clothes are still clean then they can be worn again but I don’t think you can wear them again on several consecutive days. I’m embarrassed if we see people we know for two days in a row and he’s in the same outfit. I think it gives weird vibes like he can only afford one outfit. Just seems a bit studenty, and dirty. Am I being unreasonable??

Maybe not but there are grotters in here wearing trousers and jumpers 4 days in a row and socks for multiple days - gross and shameful.

It really is you with the OCD here.
No one is talking about not showering daily or not changing underwear/t shirts daily as needed. If you get smelly after wearing the same jumper for 3 or 4 days in the Winter, you must be a particularly sweaty or messy person or perhaps have a very physical job. Washing jeans and jumpers on a daily basis ruins the clothes and is bad for the environment.

Of course it's fine. Jeans don't get dirty. They recommend they are worn a number of times between washings.

I don’t think it’s even that they’re dirty but the same jeans AND jumper 3 days in a row is weird. I wear the same jeans but would change my top and shoes so it doesn’t look like I’m repeating an outfit

Kimura · 14/12/2025 10:33

Jeans - good quality jeans anyway - are supposed to be worn for days. Levi's recommend ten wears between washes! Nobody is going to notice that someone is wearing the same jeans for multiple days unless they're super distinctive. Nobody would care if they did notice, unless they were covered in baked beans or something.

Tops are a little different though IMO. My partner might leave a sweater/hoody/jumper etc out and wear it twice between washes if it's clean, but not on consecutive days if he's leaving the house. Shirts/T-shirts etc are one and done, obviously.

It's one thing to stick the same tracksuit on for a few days at home, but I can't imagine having any pride in my appearance and being happy with going out in the same clothes day after day.

BunnyLake · 14/12/2025 10:34

As long as they don’t smell. You surely don’t expect people to wash their jeans after each wear? I wouldn’t notice someone’s jumper if they wore it the next day unless it was either very distinctive or it smelt. I’d probably say something about the jumper if he wore it a 4th day but not the jeans.

Minnowsmouse · 14/12/2025 10:34

We waste too much energy washing clothes that aren’t really dirty. YABU.

The socks is a bit grubby. Jeans and jumpers not even slightly.

There’s only one second hand account of multi-day sock wear!

zingally · 14/12/2025 10:46

Honestly, I think it's fine.

A nice pair of jeans and a jumper doesn't stop looking nice just because you've worn it consecutive days.

Why would you be proud to wear a jumper you like on Monday, Friday and Sunday but embarrassed to wear it Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday? It makes no sense.

Artificialhens · 14/12/2025 10:54

If we’re getting into this level of detail, if the neck of a jumper is rubbing on the back of your neck in absence of a shirt collar or neckerchief, it can get smelly in a few days. 100% wool doesn’t get as smelly as acrylic, or smells nicer(!).

Cotton jeans get smellier than wool trousers or a man’s wool suit. If I don’t get my jeans wet with sweat or rainwater, I’ll wear them for about a week with a clear conscience.

Let’s not forget- some people actually smell nice! Some don’t.

Have you considered that many people of your acquaintance may wear the same jeans and jumpers (and suits) repeatedly without washing them, but you just don’t know, because actually they don’t smell.

Provided they don’t smell, what is gross and shameful?

What’s shameful is the lack of self-care, the lack of self awareness, the lack of hygiene standards. It’s slobbish and NASTY. And just basic as hell.

lucyloo25 · 14/12/2025 11:13

Eeh? I wear same trousers / jeans for a week, and in a current jumper for day 3.
As long as he doesnt smell, so what?

Is it like sex done properly, where gross shame is half the fun?

It just isn't!

thornbury · 14/12/2025 11:30

My old boss had extreme colour blindness. He wore a blue suit white shirt and pink tie every day. He assured us the shirt was clean daily. It was his 'uniform', no one cared. I doubt anyone but you cares what your DH wears either.

InterestedDad37 · 14/12/2025 11:38

I have a very good sense of smell. A lot of men (particularly older ones) don't seem to change their trousers very often, and frequently I pick up the scent of stale wee - which is gross.

It turns to ammonia! Eek!

Yes, the lack of self awareness and nastiness in your replies is indeed shameful.
You must feel very angry a lot of the time if this upsets you so much.

DelphineDonkeys · 14/12/2025 12:48

I really don't think anyone would notice with the jeans. They might notice the same jumper. As long as he has a clean t shirt and underwear underneath it's not gross though.

You’re being told you’re wrong a lot on this thread OP but I think it’s disgusting. People on mn don’t realise bacteria are microscopic. You’ve hit the “I only shower twice a week” brigade.

Okay, hands up all those who don't realise that bacteria are microscopic.

No one?

Hasn't anyone seen bacteria hanging out in gangs around Tesco's car park? Or taking up three tables at Wendy's? No?

Hm. Right. Apparently we all realise that bacteria are microscopic. You can rest easy on that one, @andae.

No, i’m not especially sweaty. I believe hygiene is really important- especially at work. Have you only got one pair of trousers? Is this an affordability issue?

I believe not paying attention to basic hygiene is unhealthy and slob-like. Are you a slob in other areas of your life too?

You are coming across as very unpleasant.

Other people don’t realise that you don’t kill all the “bacteria” by washing your jeans.
