My husband wears the same jumper and jeans for 3 days in row ..

He sees nothing wrong with it at all and doesn’t understand my reasoning. I completely disagree. Obviously if his clothes are still clean then they can be worn again but I don’t think you can wear them again on several consecutive days. I’m embarrassed if we see people we know for two days in a row and he’s in the same outfit. I think it gives weird vibes like he can only afford one outfit. Just seems a bit studenty, and dirty. Am I being unreasonable??

I really want to know how often you wash your clothes @KiwiDollar!!!

ChocolatesAndRainbows · 14/12/2025 09:01

I shower every morning and depending on what I’ve been doing I’ll often rewear several times.

Portakalkedi · 14/12/2025 09:02

Good for him. Nobody notices what other men wear.

greengreyblue · 14/12/2025 09:07

I have 3 pairs of jeans. The pair I wore yesterday have been worn about 3/ times since last wash- not consecutively as I don’t wear them in the week but will wear again today. No marks, no smells. I tend to wash jeans when they lose their shape. I have lots of jumpers that I rotate and rarely wash as I wear a thin T-shirt of vest underneath and don’t sweat in them as I only buy wool or cashmere. I can skip deodorant as since meno I notice I don’t really sweat much outside of a hot summer. I am always well presented, don’t smell, people describe me as glam sometimes! 😂😂
I think some people make extra work for themselves and pride themselves on being Uber clean. I call them the fabric conditioner brigade. Their houses reek of the stuff and so do their clothes. I use cheap non bio and no fabric conditioner as I prefer to smell of my Dior perfume.

Superhansrantowindsor · 14/12/2025 09:10

I thought this was normal. Washing jeans after every wash means they won’t last as long.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/12/2025 09:13

I wear jeans and jumpers 3 times. I’m not getting them dirty and I’m clean!

Yes I saw an Amanda Wakeley interview a Jean designer who says she NEVER washes her jeans.

Just found this article.

Why you should never wash your jeans

Machine-washing a good pair of jeans can actually cause damage to the material

And do you catalogue the items worn by your colleagues so you know they are wearing something new every day?

It's completely unnecessary to change outer layers every day unless you've actually spilt something down them

No, but i remember if someone smells bad/not fresh or if clothes look over worn or in bad condition. It reflects badly on them if they can’t get basic things such as hygiene and presentation correct.

ACynicalDad · 14/12/2025 09:17

I WFH and wear jeans for weeks some times. I will have a handful of jumpers and rotate until dirty, I’ll change shirts more often. He’s not weird, but I’d rotate jumpers 123123123 not 111222333.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 14/12/2025 09:20

I haven't got a tumble drier, everything has to dry outdoors so at this time of year jumpers and jeans get washed far less frequently than they might in the summer! Even then I will rewear stuff several times before I wash it - why not? I wear stuff underneath, shower twice a day and don't smell (according to others, I've got daughters on 'elderly woman-smell watch'). Why on EARTH would I make work for myself by washing stuff that isn't even dirty?

Crofthead · 14/12/2025 09:25

I don’t see the issue. Kindly, people who meet you won’t remember what he wore yesterday- they don’t care!

ElReverendoGreen · 14/12/2025 09:25

Jeans - you would be very unreasonable to wash jeans after every year and I hope very much you are not doing this. It defeats the entire purpose of purpose of jeans and is terrible for the environment.

Jumpers - similar to jeans to be honest. Unlikely to be worn directly against the skin so wouldn’t get sweaty. Again, bad for the environment to wash every day and you will also wreck the jumper from overwashing.

Are you one of those Zoflora types, by any chance?

littleamanda · 14/12/2025 08:43

Yes - especially if it was worn on the train/tube in the city. The answer is to have multiple items of clothing so they can be rotated. I can’t think of any reason to wear the same item of clothing day in day out unless you’re very poor or have a mental health condition.

Pretty sure it’s not the “it’s perfectly fine to wear clothes more than once” people with the ‘mental health condition’

Batistand · 14/12/2025 09:27

None of the habits here listed are particularly bad. Other than the person who hasn’t changed socks for three days. The rest is pretty much within the normal spectrum.

Artificialhens · 14/12/2025 09:28

You’ve inspired me. I’ll find some clean jeans today.

There you go. You have no way of knowing how often items have been worn because things like trousers and jumpers don't smell bad after 1 or 2 wears.

BoudiccaRuled · 14/12/2025 09:47

I happily wear the same jeans and jumper for several weeks in a row. If you love a jumper, then you love it and that's that. I occasionally hand wash it, but the lanolin in wool repels dirt, so it isn't like cotton that gets grubby within a couple of days.
I've had jumpers that have ended up being held together by elbow patches and various stitches after 5+ years of being worn almost every day. Always a sad day when they are relegated to the dog's bed.

How wealthy do you think people are that they can own enough suits and can pay dry cleaning charges after every single wear? That would be in excess of £100/week on the dry cleaning alone. I am well off but I am sure as hell not going to spend £5000 a year on dry cleaning. If you buy cheap machine washable suits, they will wear out rapidly and will look like rags within weeks. All of this is shockingly wasteful and appalling for the environment.

Your germphobia is the only mental health condition I am seeing here.

Maybe not but there are grotters in here wearing trousers and jumpers 4 days in a row and socks for multiple days - gross and shameful.

BoudiccaRuled · 14/12/2025 09:54

researchers3 · 14/12/2025 02:00

I would smell really bad if I did this.

I'd worry if I smelt bad wearing the same clothes for a few days during the winter, I don't think that's normal... Assuming the wearer is changing underwear and under shirt then the clothes shouldn't get smelly unless you are dropping stuff on yourself while eating or cooking.
Summertime is obviously completely different.

Just because you are unable to think of any reason doesn’t necessarily mean there aren’t any.

It is possible that the problem is at your end.

I don’t agree about jumpers. Whilst I don’t wear one four days in a row, as I like fashion and changing outfits, I don’t think that’s terribly dirty.

I am always cold and wear layers and a jumper would be several layers away from my skin! Say I don’t go into central London, there isn’t much pollution where I live. I don’t see how a jumper worn like that could get that dirty unless food etc was dropped on it. It’s not a bodily fluid magnet in adults. What do you do to your poor knitwear?!

Levi’s used to say that jeans worm in normal conditions only needed to be washed after 40 or 50 wears to protected the fibres and the fit. I’m not sure I’d leave a pair of jeans a year between washes, but they definitely don’t need washing after every wear, or even every week, unless you’re the type not to wear any undergarments at all. But that’s a whole different level of common to wearing the same number 3 days in a row ;)

YANBU

After 3 days he must stink especially the t- shirt!

What t-shirt? The OP says he wears jeans and a jumper, not a t-shirt.

Shameful? 😂

Man alive, just when you think you've read every batshit bad-faith take on here...
