My husband wears the same jumper and jeans for 3 days in row ..

He sees nothing wrong with it at all and doesn’t understand my reasoning. I completely disagree. Obviously if his clothes are still clean then they can be worn again but I don’t think you can wear them again on several consecutive days. I’m embarrassed if we see people we know for two days in a row and he’s in the same outfit. I think it gives weird vibes like he can only afford one outfit. Just seems a bit studenty, and dirty. Am I being unreasonable??

YANBU

After 3 days he must stink especially the t- shirt!

Why would he stink? Presuming he wears deodorant and showers daily?

You’re being told you’re wrong a lot on this thread OP but I think it’s disgusting. People on mn don’t realise bacteria are microscopic. You’ve hit the “I only shower twice a week” brigade.

Thank goodness we have the good fortune to be educated by Ms OCD then.

greengreyblue · 13/12/2025 18:55

Better check he washes his legs! 😂😂😂😂

rainingsnoring · 13/12/2025 18:55

YABU @KiwiDollar. You don't mention that he doesn't shower or smells, simply that your priority is what other people think and clothes as status symbols. Presumably your DH does not and good for him.

andae · 13/12/2025 18:45

If I’ve sat on public transport or something like that I would definitely wash my trousers, yes. I wouldn’t be leaving something I wear next to my crotch for a WEEK that’s for sure.

I think this thread dhows us why so many people smell bad these days.

Who said they don’t wash their underwear for 7 days??

I don’t think I’d even want you sitting on public transport with your crotch by the sounds of it.

😂I wondered why I'd never seen them wandering around.

🤣

LilyLemonade · 13/12/2025 19:00

If it's a wool jumper, you should wash it as little as possible. Air between uses.

Jeans are also supposed to go quite a few wears without washing.

DappledThings · 13/12/2025 19:02

mumofoneAloneandwell · 13/12/2025 18:51

That was normal growing up for me

Still, he should be taking pride in his appearance and trying to reflect well on you, so yanbu to tell him to get some new clothes (as long as circumstances allow obvs)

Why is sensibly wearing the same, clean clothes more than once not taking pride in his appearance? There's no suggestion from OP that the clothes are threadbare or stained or anything else. She just doesn't like people clocking that he's worn the same jumper more than once and thinking he doesn't own additional ones. Which is bonkers on a number of levels.

ChristmaslightsuptilJanuary · 13/12/2025 19:04

Huh? Most people won’t have memorised what he’s been wearing

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 13/12/2025 19:05

I agree with you. I will wear an outfit twice in a week but on consecutive days. Although I don’t think anyone actually cares.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 13/12/2025 19:07

You sound like a teenager OP. I have second hand embarrassment from your post.

BashfulClam · 13/12/2025 19:12

I can’t remember when I last washed my jeans, they aren’t dirty and don’t smell. I only wear them outside the house and tend to change back into leggings/joggers for in to house. I shower daily and apply clean pantage so they certainly don’t need washed often at all.

MandemChickenShop · 13/12/2025 19:47

I never wash my jeans. I put them in the freezer about 4 times a year. It's what my Japanese jeans guru told me was the correct process for denim

Jeans don't get dirty.

Of course they do. You have a combination of old skin cells, skin oils, and skin flora and bacteria in contact with the inside of your clothes. Jeans are not antibacterial. Of course they get dirty.

Yesh they are the ones hanging around bus stations looking shifty, thank you for educating us wise one

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 13/12/2025 19:56

As long as they are neither stained (inside or outside) nor smelly, I don’t see the issue. If I’m not going anywhere, I wear the same joggers and hoody for a few days. Change my T shirt and underwear.

Periperi2025 · 13/12/2025 20:02

I've never had loads of clothes, and then had a tendency to stick to my favourites. I'm currently on mounjaro and loosing fast, so my wardrobe is basically a pair of jeans, a pair of yoga pants, a fairisle jumper and a fleece zip hoody on rotation (plus work uniform). I also own a washing maching and a tumble dryer.
It had not occured to me that i might be judged as 'embarrassing' and 'studenty'.

For some reason, when I see the word "disgusting" in a post on MN I always picture pursed-up lips like a cat's anus. Every time. Dunno why.

Yes but they don't get dirty that quickly.

Ruth Goodman did a historical experiment where she wore traditional clothing for six weeks without washing her person, but with clean linen underclothes every day or so. No detectable hygiene problem at the end of it.

If a person hasn't been vigorously exercising/spilling dinner/smoking, outer clothes should be fine for a few days. Over-washing wastes energy and water, and wears clothes out faster.

SouthernNights59 · 13/12/2025 20:25

I'm team DH here. I wear the same outfit two or three days in a row, I couldn't care less what anyone thinks. I can't be bothered having once worn clothing hanging around waiting to be worn again at some time in the future.

superbakedpotato · 13/12/2025 20:35

Do you wash your coat after every wear?

Whytodayofalldays · 13/12/2025 20:45

Nope. I wear jeans 2/3 times before washing max. But a clean top/jumper (even with under t) every day. I also get changed into “house scruffs” when I get home. DH thankfully is the same.
Do the people who say they wear the same clothes for days not cook? The smell of anything you cook sticks to your clothes ( even with really good extraction) and I’ve no desire to smell like last nights curry/casserole/fish pie!

Presumably you wash your coat after every use, and would never wear your scarf more than once, and naturally you clean your trainers after every wear, and your gloves.... And your handbag presumably gets wiped down and washed every day.
