To be worried there will be a war in Europe

I don't think there will be. But the media seem to be hell bent on
winding us up about it. I dont understand Trump's attitude at all. He's like not our problem. I thought the USA was meant to be in NATO.

Yanbu I worry about it all the time

Also, sorry for being sense, but I dont understand the oil tanker stuff, why is that important, will there be war with Venezuela?

Saz12 · 11/12/2025 19:57

There already is a war in Europe - Ukraine is in Europe. I'm not sure which countries you feel would be involved?

Actually you're right. Just after I posted I thought there is a war in Europe. I suppose countries that support Ukraine are involved already in a way.

The USA has switched sides. They are becoming an ally of Russia.

And now as countries which are not in their side they are trying to meddle in our politics and influence how we are run.

Overtheatlantic · 11/12/2025 20:36

I think NATO just needs to hold steady until he loses interest in destabilising Europe.

The general secretary of NATO has said we should prepare for war with Russia. How is that the media’s fault?

Vaxtable · 11/12/2025 20:46

Let’s not forget here that Donald changes with the wind. Just look at how he has behaved towards Ukraine, Putin is right, Putin is wrong, now he’s right again and will win the war!

He really should get his own house in order before meddling in other countries

HoneyParsnipSoup · 11/12/2025 20:49

Who knows. I know that senior figures (not Trump, I mean head of NATO etc) are warning of it so we should listen to them.

Sad fact is we can’t spend money on anything that isn’t benefits or the NHS without being screamed at that we ‘love war’ and ‘there’s always money for bombs’ so an appropriate rise in defence spending won’t happen

The silly fuckers seem to think nobody would ever target the UK, they’re so naive it’s quite shocking for grown adults

WaryCrow · 11/12/2025 21:09

Don’t forget to blame France, Germany for talking the possibility of war up, and Poland, Finland and Sweden for being scared of the probable invasion forces they’re facing.

No good putting your head in the sand op. It’s coming. More barbarian invasions from the East, because men like to show off their big dicks. Britain is hopelessly unprepared because the rich wanted to concentrate all their power and turn the poorer of people back into slaves of empire. More big dicks.

i wish to all hell that I’d never had children for this disgusting species.

How long Britain could really fight for if war broke out tomorrow

In the event of a war, one expert suggests the British Army could be incapable of fighting effectively on land within weeks, once committed - though 'much depends on the form of the conflict'.

Also some politicians of the USA have apparently started to discuss leaving NATO. They only wanted to use it to make money anyway.

He does change with the wind. But he always comes back to favouring Russia. It's hard to believe they haven't got something on him.

Platypusdiver · 11/12/2025 21:21

I don't know. I live in scandinavia and these countries consider it to be a very real possiblity.

However, Putin has only made extremely slow progress with Ukraine. I am not sure how he would be able to fund, both finiancially and in terms of troops, wars im multiple countries. The USA is no longer an ally for europe, but would they actually fight for Russia?

I reckon it will be cyber, or god forbid nuclear, attacks rather than invading troops. But even cyber attacks could be horrific. No energy, money, water or food in the worst case.

Of course and responsible world leaders and nations should always prepare and risk plan for worst case scenarios. I’m glad we are prepared to go to war but it won’t happen. These are two very distinct things and OP don’t conflate the two as you seem to indicate that the media is doing.

TeaBiscuitsNaptime · 11/12/2025 21:23

I know, it's a pain how it's going on and on. I'm not unduly worried truth be told. But I do check in with the news every so often and I am being more cautious with money too

Blimey OP, Trump is very much “our problem”. In fact, he is a colossal problem for all of us in Europe. As for the Ukraine situation, we should be worried about escalation. We are years in now, with an emboldened Putin who has the backing of the US president. We have decided to ignore this for several months but it’s fast reaching the point where that’s not an option anymore. These are unprecedented times, and not in a good way.

I was meaning that Trump is saying a war in Europe isn't the Americans problem. Not that Trump isnt our problem. He is. He has made this mess worse with his meddling. Now he wants it wrapped up with Russia being rewarded with Ukranian lands for their aggression. Not on.

TidyCrow · 11/12/2025 22:30

I have had concerns for some time, but the newly published US National Security Strategy 2025 does lay bare that Europe, as a continent, appears to be entering into a era of extremely heightened security risks. Obama's warnings, along with Trump's during his first term, really should have been heeded. A massive investment in national security is - regrettably - vitally important.

Timebudda · 11/12/2025 22:43

I doubt it will happen.
But i could not give a hoot if it did.
UK is fucked up and its going to take drcades for it, to get unfucked.
A with the generation we have now, and how soft, and unresilient most are, and have been raised and everyone getting offended over everything, we would be royally fucked.
Our army is crap.

Mrsnothingthanks · 11/12/2025 22:54

I think it is likely unfortunately. Doesn't help having an unhinged US president.

Is that why Putin invaded then? To stop the child traffickers? Like a Russian Q-Anon?
Child protector Vlad did initially say it was for de-Nazification. Maybe this is history writing attempt 2

XWKD · 12/12/2025 05:19

One thing about Trump's lunacy is that European countries know they need sort out coordinating their defences. Outside of NATO they're a fragmented mess.
