To be concerned about my dd being friends with this woman

Holiday888 · 11/12/2025 14:48

My dd is only 22 year old and she’s become friends with a middle aged 29 year old lady. Aibu to be concerned due to the huge age gap and the fact this woman must have completely different life goals to my young daughter

You must be joking? 29? Too old to be friends with a 22 year old?

Middle aged???!!!

I think you are messing with us OP.

Or you are unhinged.

IdaGlossop · 11/12/2025 14:55

Fumbling in the dark a bit here because of the typo. I think it depends on what your DD is doing with this older woman and whether she has good friendships with people her own age.

Newyearnewmewoooop · 11/12/2025 14:55

Op you are absolutely bonkers

Elsvieta · 11/12/2025 14:55

Life goals? Probably not an issue unless they're planning to get married, tbh.

Holiday888 · 11/12/2025 14:56

Choice4567 · 11/12/2025 14:54

Why would a 29 year old have different life goals to a 22 year old?

They should be be settling down a 22 year old is still in party phrase I know I was

It's the unicorns I'm most concerned about. If not the Loch Ness Monster so idk. Peanuts.

user1471548941 · 11/12/2025 14:56

I was 20 when colleagues aged 30, 33 and 37 invited me to join their pub quiz team to fill a knowledge gap!

Now I’m 33 and they are 43, 46 and 50 and we’re still team mates. They’ve been there for me with some really tough times, offer fab life advice and have enjoyed my tales of a calamitous dating life, followed by meeting a lovely bloke and getting married. We have a really good laugh, a shared interest and a healthy sharing of life experiences. They were more reliable and consistent than most friends my own age!

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/12/2025 14:56

Some of my dearest friends are a good decade younger than me, some older. I’m 56! What an absolutely ridiculous thread. No, OP, I wouldn’t be remotely concerned and 29 is very very far from middle aged. Get a grip.

helpfulperson · 11/12/2025 14:56

This was one of the best bits of starting work having friends you got on with instead of just happening to be their age.

Ahh Aiden! How is he?!

333FionaG · 11/12/2025 14:58

What exactly are you hoping to get from this thread?

PinkKimono · 11/12/2025 14:58

Is there going to be a massive drip feed?

youalright · 11/12/2025 14:59

I remember at 19 going to a colleagues 60th birthday party i had a great night. Im now in my 30s and have friends of all ages obviously not children but your dd isn't a child

Everybodysinthehousetonight · 11/12/2025 14:59

What planet are you on? 🤣🤣

purplecorkheart · 11/12/2025 14:59

I am in my early 40s and one of my dearest friends is retired and is nearly 70. We are at very different life stages but have other things in common. I think you need to let your daughter live her own life and perhaps get help in rigid look at ages and friendships.

Nailshut · 11/12/2025 15:01

I agree 60 isn't middle aged, but neither is 29.

What is it that concerns you? Would it be a problem if she had a 60yo friend?

Is 7 years that big a gap? Even I who, generally isn't a fan of age gap relationships, would find it hard to find fault in that one.

BauhausOfEliott · 11/12/2025 15:02

I'm assuming this is supposed to be a parody of all the threads where posters insist that a 30-year-old man must be a wrong'un for dating a 22-year-old woman, as the 'different life goals' thing always crops up in those.

OP's post is ridiculous. The posts where people clutch their pearls over a 10-year age gap between two adults in a relationship are equally ridiculous.

They should be be settling down a 22 year old is still in party phrase I know I was

Since when did 29 become middle aged? 'Should be settling down.' We don't live in the 1950s. Not all 22-year olds want to party. Daughters don't necessarily follow the same path as their mother.

RessicaJabbit · 11/12/2025 15:03

29 is not middle aged.

Women live to mid 80s in UK

Middle age world be 35-45

Holiday888 · 11/12/2025 14:56

They should be be settling down a 22 year old is still in party phrase I know I was

😂 😂 😂

There's only 7 years difference. It's not like she's 56 and trying to hang around with 22 year olds.

StonwEd · 11/12/2025 15:06

A 29 year old is perfectly entitled to be child free, single and partying every weekend. A 22 year old is perfectly entitled to live in wedded bliss with a couple of kiddos.

Where did you come up with these bullshit rules

my home was abusive growing up so I certainly wasn’t in party mode at 22!

purpleme12 · 11/12/2025 15:08

I think this must be a joke thread

They're friends not dating whats it matter what life phase someone is in. Are all your friends exactly the same age as you
