To be concerned about my dd being friends with this woman

Holiday888 · 11/12/2025 14:48

My dd is only 22 year old and she’s become friends with a middle aged 29 year old lady. Aibu to be concerned due to the huge age gap and the fact this woman must have completely different life goals to my young daughter

No shes 29 30 very soon in late July next year

How did I miss the "very soon in late July next year" bit?

I'm surprised this thread is still standing but it's giving me a good laugh at least

Which I need in my old age as I'm now 32 and that's apparently nearly dead, in (hopefully) 40+ years

Well it’s not far away we are very nearly in January now

You would lose your ever loving mind if you knew I’d married a man that much older than me!

TeaAndTattoos · 12/12/2025 14:49

Have the kids broken up from school already because there is no way this was written by an adult 29 is not middle aged and there is not that much of an age difference between 22 and 29.

No shes 29 30 very soon in late July next year

I mean, this whole thing is ridiculous, but in what universe can you say that someone's birthday is "very soon" when it's seven and a half months away? She's nearer her 29th birthday than her 30th birthday.

IdaGlossop · 12/12/2025 15:29

@Holiday888 back to your original question. Have posters reassured you that your DD's friendship with her geriatric friend is nothing to worry about ?

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 12/12/2025 15:34

'we are very nearly in January now'

no, not yet half way through December which has 31 days...

And even if it was the beginning of January, it would still be more than half a year until this woman's birthday!

I'm getting my nightie, slippers and Ovaltine ready. It's bedtime soon.

ToWhitToWhoo · 12/12/2025 15:45

29 is not middle aged!

What on earth is wrong with people of different ages being friends? They're both adults! I could perhaps understand your reaction if your dd was 12 and the friend 19, but by the time you're in your 20s, 'life goals' depend on all sorts of other things besides age- and why do friends always need to have the same 'life goals' anyway?

As I always say, it would be frowned on nowadays to reject or exclude people on the grounds of where they were born, and I don't see that it's so differeent to reject or exclude them on the grounds of when they were born.

I know, it reminds me of making up the family relationships and ages of my dolls when I was tiny. The "granny" was 25... and her daughter was 24.

Wingingit73 · 12/12/2025 18:05

Is this a joke? 29? Huge age gap? Your daughter is an adult.

Clychaugog · 12/12/2025 18:06

Hahaha! 29? Middle aged????

😂😂😂

A 7 year age gap is nothing to worry about. Your daughter might actually learn something useful about being a grown up

Dontletthebedbugsbite2 · 12/12/2025 18:07

I am 36 and one of my very best friends in the world is 72. My other friend who sadly passed away a couple of years ago in her 70s was one of my best friends too, we met at work. Age isn't the issue.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 12/12/2025 21:01

Holiday888 · 12/12/2025 14:45

Well it’s not far away we are very nearly in January now

Even if that was true, which it isn't, then July is also 7 months away

Try again

Don’t really get what more you need to know I find the gap massive is my point

OP posts:
Lightuptheroom · 12/12/2025 21:57

I'm genuinely confused (as are many others) how a gap of 7 years between 2 adult women is 'massive' ? Unless you are leaving out some kind of vulnerability which means your daughter functions at a much younger age ? Or I can only assume that you've decided that it's inappropriate and that's that. Makes me wonder why your daughter has even shared this with you and why you've bothered to post at all. I'd understand if you were talking about a 12 year old and a 19 year old, but these are both young adult women you're talking about.
I'm married to someone 18 years older (yes we do laugh that the year I was born was the year he joined the army, but its not relevant now!)

NickyWiresSunnies · 12/12/2025 21:58

You're not very bright are you? The ancient soon to not be 29 half a year away bestie of your 'd'd is probably a better influence than you & your party 'phrase'. Cut the strings.
