To be concerned about my dd being friends with this woman

Holiday888 · 11/12/2025 14:48

My dd is only 22 year old and she’s become friends with a middle aged 29 year old lady. Aibu to be concerned due to the huge age gap and the fact this woman must have completely different life goals to my young daughter

Are you usually this controlling OP?

You have to at least try to make it believable when you post a wind-up thread.

It's interesting how many posters have given earnest, considered responses to it. It's like a symbiosis. I can't help picturing a fresh cowpat with eager flies buzzing around it.

MannersAreAll · 11/12/2025 16:24

They should be be settling down a 22 year old is still in party phrase I know I was

Just because that's where you were at 22 and 29 doesn't mean it's the same for everyone.

Merryoldgoat · 11/12/2025 16:24

I think @Holiday888 has valid worries tbh.

This older lady will get OP’s daughter into Horlicks, soft furnishings and collagen supplements if she’s not careful.

Who knows where it could lead: Crochet? Decoupage?

I’d be beside myself too.

TortillaRapping · 11/12/2025 16:25

My daughter has started a graduate job. She is 22. She says she enjoys chatting with her colleagues who are 29, 30. Several of them are getting married and are at a different life stage. But she still manages to have a laugh with them and one or two, she thinks might become friends.

chunkyBoo · 11/12/2025 16:26

Well I was still at university at 29, partying all the time still … most of my friends settled down 20’s and 30’s but didn’t stop them partying either … I think you’re worrying about nothing. Be pleased she’s got a nice friend!
by the way 29 isn’t middle age, it’s 50’s somewhere … 29 still young and fanciful 🤣

Or worse! Mumsnet!

surprisebaby12 · 11/12/2025 16:30

This is an odd question. 29 isn’t much older than 22?

SereneGoose · 11/12/2025 16:32

Unbelievable...I have friends in their 90's and in their 20's...I am 56..
If your only concern is their age...well lawks a mercy..what's going to happen if she makes friends with a gee... idk ..a bot?

blackpear · 11/12/2025 16:33

YAB vvvvv U. There's a 7-year difference - that's nothing. And even if your daughter was friends with a 50-year-old, where's the harm? It's healthy to have multi-generational friendships.

Thanksforyourlackofthought · 11/12/2025 16:33

Good grief.

ForeverHopeful3 · 11/12/2025 16:35

You're saying that 29 is middle-aged and is too old for your 22-year-old?

Let's let's stop drinking for the rest of the day.

mumuseli · 11/12/2025 16:35

It’s nice to have friends of various ages!

Holiday888 · 11/12/2025 14:51

No as much as we all like to believe 60 is middle aged it isn’t

Neither is 29! Hmm The average life span in this country is 80.

wordler · 11/12/2025 16:37

@Holiday888 Is this a romantic relationship or a platonic one?

Tabitha005 · 11/12/2025 16:37

Imagine how horrified the OP would be to know that, at 52, I've got friends in their early 20s right through to their 90s! Age truly is nothing but a number if you've got shared interests, things to talk about, enjoy one another's company and have an interest in the world beyond your own narrow frame of reference.

I got married when I was 22. 7 years later I had been promoted a few times and had a bit more available cash. I partied more at 29 than I did at 22.

Still don’t understand why having a friend of only 7 years difference is such an issue. It’s not like they are 7 and 14!!

maddiemookins16mum · 11/12/2025 16:40

Crikey my best pal is 49, I’m 61!

Longtimegardener · 11/12/2025 16:40

Because of a shared hobby my dc (late teen/ early twenties) have friends in their 30s and sometimes older. Many have dc of their own and they are friends with the whole family. We often meet with them too. Surely mixed age/ intergenerational friendships - on top of friends of their own age- is a great thing?

WhatNoRaisins · 11/12/2025 16:42

Even I don't think 29 is middle aged and I've been criticised for how young I think of as middle aged 🤣.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 11/12/2025 16:42

Behave yourself😂

FeliciaFancybottom · 11/12/2025 16:43

I'd be very concerned, OP. It's all downhill from 30, a slippery slope to Werther's originals and dementia.

PinkFlamingo888 · 11/12/2025 16:43

You’re weird.
