To be concerned about my dd being friends with this woman

My dd is only 22 year old and she’s become friends with a middle aged 29 year old lady. Aibu to be concerned due to the huge age gap and the fact this woman must have completely different life goals to my young daughter

OP posts:

No shes 29 30 very soon in late July next year

What an insult OP - 29 is not middle aged!
also what is age but just a number.

ive had friends who were older than me 10, sometimes 15 years and I have enjoyed their company, conversations and learning from their life experiences and views. No harm in having friends older than yourself.

you seem to be very rigid.
let your daughter find her own path.
good luck

At 58, I’ve successfully made it through middle age, old age, then the very elderly stage and am now in Death’s waiting room. Just as well I’m senile or I’d think I’d been shortchanged.

Lemonyyy · 11/12/2025 17:41

Went out for lunch with friends today, oldest is 13 years older than me, youngest 8 years younger. Friends of different ages bring so much to my life, having friends who are all the same as you is boring!

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 11/12/2025 17:41

I'd stay off the Christmas cheer OP 🍸

Medicaladvice · 11/12/2025 17:41

You almost lost me at 29 being middle aged but completely lost me at July next year being ‘very soon’ …

PermanentlyExhuastedPigeon · 11/12/2025 17:46

Have you been going a bit too hard on the egg nog?

I'm actually middle aged at 50 and along with several mates in the same ball park have a long-standing friend of 71 and a more recent one of 26. Shockingly I also have a male friend of 37!

Age is not the only indicator of having something in common.

Terfedout · 11/12/2025 17:47

Looney!

Berlinlover · 11/12/2025 17:49

When I was 29 I was friendly with a 21 year old. Her mother was very much against the friendship.

InveterateWineDrinker · 11/12/2025 17:50

Obviously she's grooming your daughter. Watch out for the geriatric muff-diving!

Very soon, in 7.5 months!

CandyCaneKisses · 11/12/2025 17:51

That’s no age gap at all.

No as much as we all like to believe 60 is middle aged it isn’t

Oh wow OP. Such a random take.

ALittleDropOfRain · 11/12/2025 17:52

What are your specific concerns?

I‘ve always had friends of a variety of ages. At 22 I spent time in a different country and had a close-knit group of international colleagues who also became friends. The average age was 30, I got on best with a lady in her late 30s as we had a similar way of thinking, and was quite happy spending time with some of my 50yr old colleagues, one of whom was the only one who really shared my sense of humour. We all concentrated on what connected us. And as the youngest staff member, the others really did look out for me.

Today I‘ve enjoyed conversations with people ranging from 20-70, spent yesterday evening with a group age 50-70 (I‘m early 40s), spent the evening before with friends in their mid 30s, and need to meet up again with my 30yr old friend soon.

Unless there’s something specific about this 29yr old that you’re concerned about (and if so, that would probably be regardless of her age), I really can’t see the problem…

They should be be settling down a 22 year old is still in party phrase I know I was

Why should she? She's only 29. Settling down is not complusary at any age

Pinkladyapplepie · 11/12/2025 17:53

OMG not nearly 30, put a stop to this ASAP, she will corrupt your young daughter beyond all recognition. No time to waste, off you pop sort it out.🤣

Oh well in that case I understand.

Your daughter will get close to this middle aged women, but next year her new fun friend will be decrepit and probably die from her advanced age, and in the meantime your daughter is painted as a gold digger for the next three years until she herself is approaching middle age.

It's awful.

Are you ok?!

Cherrysoup · 11/12/2025 18:03

29 middle aged? wtf?! This is like the thread re a 22 year old dd marrying a 29 year old man and moving to the Middle East, read that one this morning.

Who says a 22 year old has to be party mad but a 29 year old has to be staid, prim and proper? Looking at my Year 11s, I have one girl who will ask to sit in silence in my room at lunch, one who’s in a band, very extrovert, the we have those obsessed with make up, you get the idea, they’re all at very different stages/different characters.

ChloeMorningstar · 11/12/2025 18:06

oh be serious! middle aged at 29

Isittimeformynapyet · 11/12/2025 18:14

Notateacheranymore · 11/12/2025 16:39

I got married when I was 22. 7 years later I had been promoted a few times and had a bit more available cash. I partied more at 29 than I did at 22.

Still don’t understand why having a friend of only 7 years difference is such an issue. It’s not like they are 7 and 14!!

There's nothing to understand. This is one of "those" threads.

I was 35 going for lunch with 55 year olds?

This thread is clearly a wind up. OP has only posted 3 times. I Can't believe it's got 12 pages of replies...

29 isnt middle aged. Its normal for adults of all ages to be friends in certain circumstances. Without additional information its impossible to tell if you are being unreasonable to be concerned .
But age alone seems unreasonable.
