Is our postman a cheeky fucker?

I have just lost 3 stone in weight and decided to buy a new second hand wardrobe through Ebay. I will admit that I have been purchasing a lot of clothes etc.
Our postman keeps commenting to my husband about the parcels arriving on a daily basis. On one occasion he said to my husband "She must have bought the whole shop by now! The other day he said "There were no parcels for a few days, so I thought that things were under control!"
This is not even a postman we have known for many years, he's only been our postman for about 18 months.

I feel annoyed that he thinks that he has any right to comment on my parcels.
He's job is to deliver the mail and keep his opinions to himself.

you sound fun OP.

Pumpkinmagic · 11/12/2025 13:17

Sounds like he is just trying to have a laugh with you, that is all. I would let it go.

StepawayfromtheLindors · 11/12/2025 13:19

Can’t you imagine the mind numbing boredom of being a postie? Poor man, just seeking some lighthearted interaction.

myhaggisblewup · 11/12/2025 13:19

Runrunrudolph · 11/12/2025 11:17

Well i agree with you OP.

How condescending and patronising the guys talking about the little woman in that way.

I would be furious. And if your H is joining in with this patter I would be having words with him.

FGS🙄

I’m sorry but I don’t agree with the majority of the comments here.
I would absolutely fine and ‘having a laugh’ if the postman was saying these comments to my face, but not to my husband. It’s misogynistic. I love the MN double standards.

I must inform my postman that he’s doing misogyny wrong, as it’s DH who orders endless parcels at our house and I’m the one WFH so accepts them all.

He’s made the same joke to me before that I need to get DH under control and that DH is cheeky when I’m the one who needs to take all the parcels in while working.

I must commend him for making that totally banal, small talk against a man as it would be utterly offensive to have made the comment the way round…

ACynicalDad · 11/12/2025 13:23

Would be a very dull job if he couldn't say the odd cheeky comment.

I think I'd have said it keeps him in a job so I'm doing him a favour !

Mumof2wifeof1crazytimes · 11/12/2025 13:30

Good god!!! Some people will moan about anything. Try and find so joy/fun/anything in your life to cheer you up!

CautiousLurker2 · 11/12/2025 13:43

LOL you’d hate my postman then. Yesterday he knocked on the door and asked if I had a few spare dog biscuits as he was wearing a new coat and forgot to put some in his pocket - it his supply that he carries to befriend dogs on his round. I gave him an entire new packet. Now wondering whether I should have put a complaint in to the RM. CF! [Joking]

Eyeshadow · 11/12/2025 13:43

I definitely wouldn’t say it’s sexist or misogynistic.
It would almost be offensive to say it was because then that’s implying he is correct and that OP is being a shopaholic and reinforcing the stereotype.

The parcels all have a woman’s name on and he sees DH to make conversation with.

If I was going in the same shop every day with the same shop keeper and they didn’t see me for a couple of days, then it wouldn’t be offensive for them to joke about not seeing me.

I would be more surprised at the comment if anything because it’s Xmas and surely there are loads of parcels being delivered.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 11/12/2025 13:45

These kinds of threads have got to be the pre Christmas MN madness. My postman talks to me, my neighbours write too many names in cards...

TrippingOverMyAssets · 11/12/2025 13:46

You do wonder how some people actually get through life being so uptight without having something to be offended by. I notice OP doesn’t actually say what her husband thinks of it. Which suggests he probably isn’t the slightest bit offended either and is probably more irritated at having to keep answering the door for her parcels every day. Why is he having to keep doing it anyway? Isn’t that a bit sexist? Or just lazy?

FestiveFruitloop · 11/12/2025 13:49

It's the fact that he said it to OP's husband that jumps out at me, as though the man is automatically in control of the finances. If he'd said it to OP directly, still mildly cheeky but I'd grit my teeth and laugh along.

FestiveFruitloop · 11/12/2025 13:50

sweeneytoddsrazor · 11/12/2025 13:10

How some people manage to get through the day without self combusting is beyond me. If OP doesn't like her postie joking with her DH she could always try answering the door herself.

Some people won't be happy until everyone is silent all day everyday.

Bit of a leap, don't you think?

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/12/2025 13:51

He’s got a really tough job and he’s having a joke. Don’t take it so seriously. I have some very funny convos with our amazing postman about my Vinted habit. Life is too short to be annoyed by this.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 11/12/2025 13:52

Im on first name terms now with a local delivery driver due to the number of times he has delivered to our house. He always makes a comment.. no biggie.. we laugh, i say thanks, he thanks me for keeping him in a job and we part ways.

As i see it, it pays to keep these people on side

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 11/12/2025 13:53

Tell him you’re spite-buying purely to give him a heavy workload and a bad back. Only kidding. Just shrug and say, Not this again. It doesn’t really matter what I buy, does it?

He sounds like an absolute dick, and I'm surprised at the response you are getting on here.

It is none of his business what you are ordering. I guarantee he would not be making jokes to a man about his purchases.

Somethingneedstochange78 · 11/12/2025 13:59

He’s just being friendly why do some people have to take things so literally these days?🙄

justasking111 · 11/12/2025 13:59

It's funny until your partner weaponises it.

But that’s a lovely thing from what sounds like a very nice and friendly postman! It’s not the same thing at all!

Tartantotty · 11/12/2025 14:04

Oh dear - so now a bit of fun banter is under scrutiny. What a boring po-faced country we've become. Lighten up!

Perhaps, but Postmen/women are not necessarily groomed in social niceties and can make crap jokes that land wrong - just like the rest of us. And I do think that was what this was, a bad joke. Yes, probably under-pinned by a bit of sexism but it’s still nothing I’d personally get a bit rankled by at the time and then forget about 5mins later.
