To not be sure if I like our new carpet..

We have had our carpet since we moved in 8 years ago. It’s grey and the walls were also grey so we just went along with it as it was the trend anyway.
I decided to paint the grey a taupe colour and we went for a chocolate carpet. It’s cost us a lot of money and we’ve had to wait a long time as with it being open plan we had to get the carpet in the stairs and landing too. We went for a chocolate colour because I thought it would go with the walls and also I thought it would show less stains between a toddler, a dog and me who’s a bit of a liability with a cuppa! It’s fitted and I could cry. I’m not sure if it is too dark or not. Plus they had to remove a door - one being the one that leads to our freezing cold porch as it now needs planing so I’m sat typing this with a very cold breeze on me! Does it look too dark and awful? Before and after.

I think it looks lovely and makes the room look more cosy (even if you are actually freezing).

DisplayPurposesOnly · 10/12/2025 17:35

I wasn't convinced til I saw your pictures. The room looks much nicer now 😊

Parsleysalad · 10/12/2025 17:35

I like it!

verycloakanddaggers · 10/12/2025 17:36

It's much nicer than the grey, the grey looked very cold. Chocolate is really warm and goes with lots of colours.

Give it a few months to get used to it, you can't judge well at first because it's a change.

Nomorebullshitnotavailable · 10/12/2025 17:37

I think it looks really nice!! Cosy and practical. It looks really nice with the walls and fireplace.

lizzyBennet08 · 10/12/2025 17:38

I like the carpet . I'd get rid of the rug

Cabinqueen · 10/12/2025 17:40

I think you chose well, looks lovely.

Whatsherusername · 10/12/2025 17:43

I love it, can you not have a bit planed of the bottom of the door and rehang it?

friedaddedchilli · 10/12/2025 17:43

It’s an improvement, but will be much better when you get a different rug. Something in a warm, muted red/orange colourway, but not too bright.

CandyCaneKisses · 10/12/2025 17:52

I don’t like it but it’s not the best photo.

Lorrymum · 10/12/2025 17:56

I like it. It looks a lot better than grey.

MightyFlow · 10/12/2025 17:57

Sorry OP but calling it 'chocolate' does not hide the fact that you have a brown carpet. Brown - whatever were you thinking!?

winterbluess · 10/12/2025 17:59

Not a fan. Sorry

SunnieShine · 10/12/2025 17:59

A bold choice, but it works.

Bundleflower · 10/12/2025 18:01

It’s equally as inoffensive as the grey!

BuffetTheDietSlayer · 10/12/2025 18:02

It looks nice, but I wouldn’t have it as it’s the perfect colour for big, horrible house spiders to camouflage as they walk across it.

Goldwren1923 · 10/12/2025 18:03

The walls are too light. You need to have more intense colour of the walls so that the carpet is not out of place

MissyB1 · 10/12/2025 18:04

I love it to the point of being very jealous! Really warm rich colour, good choice!

snoopythebeagle · 10/12/2025 18:05

I really don't like it, sorry.

ComtesseDeSpair · 10/12/2025 18:05

With the dark woodwork there’s a lot of brown, so I’d probably lighten it up a bit with a more colourful rug, but it’s practical and neutral. You’ll get used to it, either way - it’s just a big change all at once and it needs time to become part of the literal fabric of life.

Goldwren1923 · 10/12/2025 18:06

Also it doesn’t go with the wood too as wood is yellowish in tone, you need to stain it walnut so it goes with the carpet

also you need some other accents in
the room to support the chocolate color

Mindfulmother01 · 10/12/2025 18:07

I like it! I really don't think the rug goes though so I would get rid of that

Didimum · 10/12/2025 18:07

Since you asked – no, I think it’s quite hideous. But as you will see from the responses here, everyone has different tastes and all that matters is that you like it. It’s your home. You’re probably just a bit stumbled by the change.

I don’t like grey either and, for me, the only acceptable carpet colour is beige. But that’s just me!

No87 · 10/12/2025 18:07

I'm not a fan, I think its too dark. Plus I don't like brown as a color.

Hellohah · 10/12/2025 18:09

I like the carpet but I don't like the rug 🤦🏻‍♀️
