To not be sure if I like our new carpet..

We have had our carpet since we moved in 8 years ago. It’s grey and the walls were also grey so we just went along with it as it was the trend anyway.
I decided to paint the grey a taupe colour and we went for a chocolate carpet. It’s cost us a lot of money and we’ve had to wait a long time as with it being open plan we had to get the carpet in the stairs and landing too. We went for a chocolate colour because I thought it would go with the walls and also I thought it would show less stains between a toddler, a dog and me who’s a bit of a liability with a cuppa! It’s fitted and I could cry. I’m not sure if it is too dark or not. Plus they had to remove a door - one being the one that leads to our freezing cold porch as it now needs planing so I’m sat typing this with a very cold breeze on me! Does it look too dark and awful? Before and after.

A dark brown carpet? It wouldn’t be for me, but unless you want to replace it, you’ll have to learn to live with it.

I don't love it but I think it could come into it's own and look much more stylish than it does with a bit of effort. You definitely need to change the woodwork from the orange pine to something much simpler - I would go for a light cream rather than a white to stick with the warmth of the capet. Walls need to be a warmer colour and the rug needs to be much bigger and again bring in warmer colours - pinks/browns/golds/taupes. I will be honest and say that i think the sofa iis not so nice and the colour is not helping at all - maybe a throw? (again sticking with a warm palette).

Thank you everyone. So you don’t think I’ve made an expensive mistake with it?

The carpets fine but I think the wood doesn't flatter the look and looks dated. Maybe paint it lighter including the skirting. An off white?? Or get rid of it and have a floating mantlepiece instead. You could break up the colour also and add more interest by tiling around and into the fireplace using a patterned tile. I'm not a fan of the rug.
