Just having a bit of a thoughtful day really, thinking back to the mid 90’s and my youth
Life was so exciting then and looking back, I cannot believe the things we got up to from a young age and how different things will probably be for my Dd now

I’m 47, trapped in suburbia 😅 and nobody would likely imagine the type of person I was back then and until mid twenties really

If you were there, what is your life look like now, do you often feel as bored as I do? Would you go back?

We’re still about 😂🎶

nightmarepickle2025 · 10/12/2025 12:11

Still raving, just go to ones that finish at 10pm now. Thankfully Gen Z seem to like an early night too.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 10/12/2025 12:12

I’m the same.

Had a recent break up and DS is grown up so I’m actually going on nights out again.

I like to be home by about 10pm though…

TheatricalLife · 10/12/2025 12:13

We got old!
Loved clubbing, but I wouldn't want to go now at my age. If I could turn back the clock and have a night out as a 21 year old again I would. Still listen to the music on the treadmill.
Kids just don't do it now. My niece is 22 and a big "influencer" on tiktok and none of them drink or go clubbing. It's all aesthetically pleasing dinners and holidays.

Liissey0710 · 10/12/2025 12:14

Why stop if you enjoyed it. I still go to concerts and comedy gigs the same as in my teens and 20s. I am sure that there are still ravers in their 60's. you 100% see rockers in their 70s at gigs

Agree with this! Plus there's no more reeking of cigarette smoke afterwards. It's great!

Mumjjeet · 10/12/2025 12:17

I'm 46 still raving. There is day parties as well I went in October to D&B collective in Lab 11 in Birmingham was bunch of us in 40's. We had amazing time and going to repeat next year in May. Advantage is start at 2pm and finish 11pm so you back at home and have good night sleep. My kids are 16 now so I have more flexibility. Disadvantage is lots of kids at raves but I'm not bothered. I don't think I will ever stop 🥳

Dweetfidilove · 10/12/2025 12:18

I now go to concerts, 1 or 3 festivals and private parties where I can slide in late and leave early. I don't want to be out for too long.
Do I miss it? Nope. I did my fair share and I now hate people trying to dance with /on me 📳.

AliceMcK · 10/12/2025 12:19

All the ones I know are old bald with wrinkly hairy faces that still think they have the moves every time they come to mine for a drink, which they have usually mixed with something else. By10pm they are usually passed out 😂

My home town did a couple of old raving nights in some of the old clubs, it was a really sad sight to see. I didn’t go but there were newspaper articles, photos and even worse videos of 40/50 yos dressing and behaving like there were 18 again 😬

Agree though, I’m glad I experienced the 90s, it was an amazing decade we will never have anything like it again.

Ilovediscoballs · 10/12/2025 12:20

I’m 58,we have a little home bar, bought some flashy lights and a disco ball (obviously) and with Alexa we rave on at home

JengaCupboard · 10/12/2025 12:20

We're still here.. I miss the 90's/early 00's BUT it's just not like it used to be! A lot of the places in my local city are long gone/demolished/empty buildings now, so I guess the partying landscape just isn't the same possibly?

I look back with nostalgia but wouldn't want to be in today's version of a club/rave I don't think.. I like day-drinking, nice dinners and home by 10pm..

Colddampandmoany · 10/12/2025 12:20

I don’t want to do it now, but want to go back! Don’t know how we didn’t die, the 90’s from age 13 upwards were just insane

xanthomelana · 10/12/2025 12:24

We moved to day drinking and reliving our raving days in the car when driving. That could just be me though 🤣 my kids are adults themselves now and grew up with all the old school classics, they didn’t have much choice because I was young having them and wasn’t ready to hang up my glow sticks.

TheatricalLife · 10/12/2025 12:28

Also, it was bloody cheap in the 90s and early 2000s! I used to be able to get a pint of cider and black for 80p at the city pub we went to before hitting the clubs. Never paid an entry fee because I was a girl and they just wanted you in. Last bus was 50p. Taxi was under a tenner between loads of us. Used to get a fishbowl with free shots for the price of one cocktail now.
Going out now costs SO much money, even factoring in the increase in salaries. My hairdresser is 21 and she goes out a lot (not clubbing, just bars) and the cost is astronomical compared to what I used to spend when we talk about it.

I used to go out until 4am and then head off to my admin job at 8am absolutely fresh as a daisy and in my high heels. I'd be on my arse for a week now.

Worldgonecrazy · 10/12/2025 12:30

I was too old for raves, but do go to a lot of gigs. I went to a punk covers band a few weeks ago and one man in his 60s/70s was still pogoing. It was fabulous, not sad. I’m sure many there were quite envious they can no longer move well, let alone jump around vigorously.

I find it much sadder that age has stopped a lot of people dancing like they were 18 again. It’s a shame that young people today don’t have the same opportunities due to societal changes. The local night club scene (big city) has died because the young women stopped going out due to constant harassment, so the young men stopped going too.

MidnightMeltdown · 10/12/2025 12:33

Bit younger than you, but definitely remember going out a lot more in the 2000s than kids do these days. I think it’s a combination of things. Changes in licensing law means that clubs/bars often aren’t open as late. Also places are much stricter on ID. Gone are the days when you could sneak into club at 14. My best going out years were between the ages of 14-18 when everything was new and exciting and I had boundless energy. Also, the 90s (and pre 2008) were boom time for the economy. Young people these days have to be more sensible and disciplined to compete in the job market, and going out has become very expensive. £20 would last me a whole night in the 2000s!

I think the night club scene died because they started asking for ID, and half the people were under age! I remember the days when I used to see everyone from school out in clubs and bars on a Saturday night.

LunarEclipser · 10/12/2025 12:41

I used to go out with £10 and the bus fare home (usually first bus of the morning the next day 😁)

I loved the 90s. And I still love going out and dancing now. But I don’t have the stamina I had in my youth and I’m certainly not taking any substances these days. I need at least three days of rest after a night out.

Octavia64 · 10/12/2025 12:43

I loved the 90s.

cheap nights out.

i had kids and don’t go out any more. These days I’m more likely to go to a musical or a concert.

BillieWiper · 10/12/2025 12:47

I'm still raving in spirit. In reality haven't been to a squat party, outdoor party, rave, nightclub or anything for about 20 years.

Still love the music though. But haven't the energy or mental capacity for crowds of people all off their neck anymore!

Salvadoridory · 10/12/2025 12:49

I wouldnt want to do it now but I am so grateful for having experienced euphoria. I will never forget those days. I am occasionally reminded of I have been dealing with an emergency and missed a couple of nights sleep.

ComtesseDeSpair · 10/12/2025 12:52

I still go, fairly regularly. Everything from proper serious techno club nights silly costume and paint party raves. Still the odd illicit warehouse rave happening now and again, too! And judging by the crowd at most clubs, many much younger people still enjoy it all, so I wouldn’t worry that your DD is going to miss out, if that’s what she wants to do when she’s old enough.

MidnightMeltdown · 10/12/2025 12:57

I wouldn’t want to do it now either. I never used to get a hangover as a teen, whereas now I have one after two glasses of wine 😵‍💫. Also part of the fun was getting dressed up with the girls, flirting, and not knowing who you might meet. Not quite the same when you have DH/DP at home!

funkylittleboatrace · 10/12/2025 13:01

Most of them are at clockwork events 🍊 😂
