I've seen these threads before and thought how on earth did you not know! How big must your house be to have a secret room.
Our house is not massive, 4 bed, normal size not really old or anything.
But there's a super creepy room. Hidden at the back of the loft, It's got carpet, wall paper and even spot lights! And a director's chair... just sitting in the middle of it! It's weird.

Now I'm wondering what might be in our new loft. We haven't been up there yet 😬

Me too!

Me too! And the attic is always absolutely terrifying and I'm too scared to look at it. Apparently it's about an unexplored part of your psyche but frankly some of my dreams are enough to put me off exploring my psyche any further thank you very much.

In this case, I think it just looks like an old school, bodge job, teenagers gaming den.

DeemonLlama · 07/12/2025 01:20

Definitely not a torture room due to totally impractical flooring choice. You never put carpet in a torture room everyone knows that, and the wallpaper is all wrong/too pale and would show too much splatter. It's definitely more of an abducted child room or space to keep your possessed evil monkey/teddy/ventriloquist dummy toys. 🤣 IMHO at least.

Plus You definitely need a creepy clown doll for that chair otherwise it's just a wasted opportunity. If you have kids and they misbehave just message them a pic of the creepy clown doll attic room and bet they will be good as gold. I soooo want that room. My tweenager is a nightmare. 😁

Wow.. v Stanley Kubrick!

I was thinking David Lynch. It's definitely cinematic.

EmeraldRoulette · 07/12/2025 01:46

I just googled Mr Tumble and I don't get the reference 😂

Maybe someone in the house used to go up there and meditate and get away from any other noise?

LeftieRightsHoarder · 07/12/2025 01:57

I am so glad I'm not alone after reading this thread! I have goose pimples all down my arms. Not letting DH go to bed without me.

Mothership4two · 07/12/2025 02:24

Probably a hiding place to get out of doing jobs around the house. "I've just got to sort something out in the loft first" [disappears for 2 hours]. Or maybe a masturbation chamber knowing no-one will walk in and interrupt you or bang on the loo door asking why you are taking so long?!

TheCorrsDidDreamsBetter · 07/12/2025 03:04

I don't think anyone is getting their rocks off with that wallpaper around.

It looks like the perfect place to hold your arch nemesis hostage though.

HeyThereDelila · 07/12/2025 03:05

Can you contact the old owners and ask what it was for? Why didn’t it show up on house plans?

My horrible thought is it might have been somewhere the previous owners made their DC go to be punished 😞

Please go up and tell us 😬😬😬

FullOfLemons · 07/12/2025 03:45

It looks like something from Dr Who in the 1970s. If you are lucky you may find a jelly baby

One of my recurrent dreams is finding a secret room in a new place - attic, extension, cellar ...

Same. But I get a bad feeling about it, so never actually want to use the room.

ElReverendoGreen · 07/12/2025 03:54

I’m also wondering about the green frame on the right, is that a window? And if so, would you not have seen it from outside?

Also, as suggested by pp, is it a terraced house and could it be your neighbours? As you had to climb over a half wall to get to it. Our house is mid terrace and the attics are like that, all connected.

And yes, as another pp said, could we have some photos of the approach?

How exciting!

SweetnsourNZ · 07/12/2025 05:16

Do you know your new neighbours yet? They may be able to shed some light on it if they knew the previous people.

Latenightreader · 07/12/2025 05:26

The previous owners were Mastermind fanatics. This was where they trained, the plan being to get used to distractions so that when they were in the black chair with the lights dimmed they would be laser focused.

clickyteeclick · 07/12/2025 05:27

Could it be an audition room? You know like a self audition space for an actor? This is my positive spin on it and what I would have to continually tell myself to carry on living in the house 😬

Imisscoffee2021 · 07/12/2025 05:28

So creepy, those spotlights look way more modern than that wallpaper.

Shine a UV light over all the surfaces and see what shows up...

Lol.

Yeah. It's a sex room.

Glad you said that. I thought I was the only one hearing the Mastermind theme tune.

A pull down ladder for the loft and then it's right at the back with half wall to climb over into the room.

Guessing the half wall is how you didn't see it initially.

Who lived in the house before you? Single or couple of Mocabre Tumbles? 👀

Bumblebee72 · 07/12/2025 06:18

Spookyspaghetti · 06/12/2025 23:34

Say Mr. Tumble three times and see if he appears.

Er that isn't how you call Mr Tumble..... "Take your hand, and touch your nose, blink three times and................"

Not ok!!!

scalt · 07/12/2025 06:35

There was a room like that in my childhood attic, and a few times, I got locked in. Sad Why? Because we loved the Crystal Maze, used to play it around the house, and that was always the room that had the "automatic lock-in" games.

LoveToRun866 · 07/12/2025 00:20

So, is it a terraced property, and possibly your neighbour's attic😃

This was my thought !
