Do you believe the pyramids or The sphinx were built by the ancient Egyptians?
I’m just watching Egypt’s Secret code and Bradley Walsh isn’t accepting this theory, my husband believes it was Aliens.
I don’t know what I think really, please discuss, Share your thoughts.

I disagree.

Is a bit. It's obviously a light hearted Friday night chat and you've decided to react as if she reversed her car into your car in the car park when you could have kept swiping down the topics.

Gardener82 · 05/12/2025 23:34

I didn’t say I believe they were built by aliens, he does.
It doesn’t concern me that he believes aliens built them and watching Bradley Walsh (who also seems to have a lot of conspiracy theories aswell) I just wondered how common this way of thinking is, that’s all, I’m fully aware it’s a bit batshit but it’s not hurting anyone and was supposed to be a more lighthearted conversation.

I don't know about the pyramids - I'll leave that to Bradely Walsh - but didn't all those US air force lieutenants suddenly start talking to Congress about aliens a couple of years ago? What happened with that?

Saz12 · 05/12/2025 23:38

But believing in ascientific shite because it's on YouTube is kinda scary. Aliens built the pyramids, vaccines are trying to kill us all, cancer can be cured by intravenous broccoli, whatever.

Why my husband thinks it’s aliens..

  1. The weight and size of the blocks that were used were around 10 tonnes. Modern machinery would struggle.
  2. Precision of the stone cuts.
  3. Sculptures in Dolerite and Granite, the symmetry in the carvings wouldn’t have been possible with the tools available.

Does your husband understand how wheels and rolling work? Or the sheer magnitude of slaves the Egyptians had?

There’s a view that there might have been an advanced, ancient civilisation & some kind of cataclysmic event that wiped out all evidence.

It is hurting people. It's denying reality, it's denying history,.it's refusing to acknowledge the incredible achievements of earlier civilisations in favour of stupid "aliens did it" theories and it's the slippery slope to the kind of deranged conspiracy theory brain rot that leads us to the present state of politics all over the world.

IrisPallida · 05/12/2025 23:41

Well, among people who can actually think logically and rationally it is not common.
With gullible idiots, it is quite common.

CoolFineDoneWicked · 05/12/2025 23:42

I have an archaeology degree. I wouldn't come and tell your husband how to do HR (but I probably could after five minutes on the ACAS website, or I could get ChatGPT to do it). He's a tit.

ghostyslovesheets · 05/12/2025 23:43

A lot of this conspiracy theory stuff is based on a concept that only white Europeans had any culture or technology

Egyptian society predates many societies so it’s not inconceivable their technology did

so no, I don’t believe conspiracy theories that are based on the idea that before’white men’ existed no ideas did.

IrisPallida · 05/12/2025 23:45

There’s a view that there might have been an advanced, ancient civilisation & some kind of cataclysmic event that wiped out all evidence.

But for some utterly incomprehensible reason, that advanced, ancient civilisation was not Ancient Egyptian? -Yep, more gullible drivel...

Hayley1256 · 05/12/2025 23:47

TBH I could buy into this theory, why not - millions of people believe in various gods and religions without any proof!

So I think it could be believable that ancient humans (aliens) came and built the Pyramids as a way to mark Earth whilst also leaving some knowledge to be found.

Maybe we are one of their experiments

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 05/12/2025 23:48

With enough ropes and pulleys you can lift pretty much anything.

The trick is to get the top-most block in place first then you can use that to lift everything else up to meet it. That's why pyramids are pointy - you start with one block at the top and work downwards from there. It's obvious when you think about it.

Why my husband thinks it’s aliens..

I expect Stonehenge slabs are pretty weighty.. Aliens too then, obviously.

Ah, but is he though? An “HR Manager”? See, Doctor Who and Rose thought that the cabinet were people but they were lizards.

Whoooo ….

There’s a view that there might have been an advanced, ancient civilisation & some kind of cataclysmic event that wiped out all evidence.

Ancient civilizations were pretty advanced though weren't they? We didn't think they were for a long time because of Christianity - both the AD/BC nonsense but also because we lost a lot of knowledge due to Christians - but they understood geometry, astronomy, physics etc.

Troublein · 05/12/2025 23:53

Have you ever tried asking someone who can actually make things if moving large objects when you have unlimited manpower and time, precision work in stone or symmetry is achievable on a large scale?

It is.
If you have enough people, no Health and Safety considerations and enough time, you could sand a mountain into a replica of Buckingham Palace.

Someone in charge would really have to want it done though.

Does your husband understand how wheels and rolling work? Or the sheer magnitude of slaves the Egyptians had?

Yeah, when you have 20,000 slaves and a load of wooden rollers at your disposal you don't need a JCB. 😂

Openmouthinsertfood · 05/12/2025 23:54

I watched a doumentry about The Seven Wonders Of The Acient World recently (Bethany Hues???) and was surprised to find out that the pyramids in their time would have been smooth and white with the top/tip copper! Fascinating.
Op, I have watched a few acient aliens programmes. Some of them seem quite convincing!

NotFBI · 05/12/2025 23:56

I am a Stargate fan so...
Aliens. Makes sense

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 05/12/2025 23:58

I have watched a few ancient aliens programmes too. It is all semi-plausible dramatic nonsense made up for the cameras and people are gullible enough to fall for it.

If there genuinely were aliens here several thousand years ago, why would they waste their time building pyramids instead of doing something useful?

PinkPanther57 · 06/12/2025 00:00

Aviri · 05/12/2025 23:49

Agree. Graham Hancock took ideas a bit further in Fingerprints of Gods & Ancient Apocalypse etc…
Hokum but interesting to ponder.

Staybymw · 06/12/2025 00:01

I think that Europeans can’t believe that an African race are very far ahead of them so they make up these excuses as to how the Pyramids could’ve been made.

CurlewKate · 06/12/2025 00:02

TheCorrsDidDreamsBetter · 05/12/2025 23:38

Does your husband understand how wheels and rolling work? Or the sheer magnitude of slaves the Egyptians had?

I’m sure I saw something recently by someone knowledgable which said it wasn’t slaves but seasonal workers who built pyramids when they weren’t being agricultural workers.

He’s clearly an alien masquerading as an HR manager.

If the sphinx stood upright it could reach the top of a pyramid with its paws. So if wasn’t aliens I think it was the sphinx.

History is just ‘a consensus of some people’.
it doesn’t mean it’s factually correct.

Do you imagine that anything in a history book could be factually incorrect?

Without evidence there are only theories.
It is an interesting topic.
