Do you believe the pyramids or The sphinx were built by the ancient Egyptians?
I’m just watching Egypt’s Secret code and Bradley Walsh isn’t accepting this theory, my husband believes it was Aliens.
I don’t know what I think really, please discuss, Share your thoughts.

"It's life Jane, but not as we know it" to paraphrase McCoy taking to Kirk. 😆

Ah - my gateway drug to science. That and Dr. Who,

It's a serious point though. Even on this tiny planet we've managed to miss whole branches of the tree of life. Meaning I would be 50/50 as to whether we are capable of recognising "life" that may have originated off the earth.

The only 2 things I'd feel confident about are liquid water is essential to any form of self assembling and replicating organism, and that finding elemental oxygen is probably a very good indicator of something like life happening. However even that may have to be reassessed as our own moon looks a bit odd and oxygenny

Oh dear your DH has fallen down the conspiracy theory road.

I think some people are ignorant of how much our ancestors achieved and how clever they were.
What we do nowadays is nothing in comparison.

Look at electricity, cars, trains, planes, the internet, telephones, the industrial revolution and medicine etc.
We have things like mobile phones, microwaves and AI which are incredible but they all stemmed from those before us.

RedToothBrush · 08/12/2025 00:26

I bet the OPs husband has never visited the pyramids.

Therefore the pyramids don't actually exist. They've just been faked.

Why my husband thinks it’s aliens..

  1. The weight and size of the blocks that were used were around 10 tonnes. Modern machinery would struggle.
  2. Precision of the stone cuts.
  3. Sculptures in Dolerite and Granite, the symmetry in the carvings wouldn’t have been possible with the tools available.

The Ancient Greeks (5thC BC ish) thought that the remains at Mycenae (around 1000 years earlier) must have been built by giants - many of the stone blocks are absolutely huge.

Very likely plenty of slaves to die of exhaustion from hauling such things about in those days.
OT I know, but what interests me about Mycenae is how the culture was apparently suddenly wiped out- which ties in nicely with the massive volcanic eruption/earthquake/tsunami at what is now Santorini (?) which all ties in nicely with the ‘7 years of famine’ in the Old Testament- all those clouds of volcanic ash obscuring the sun, etc.

Stonehenge has been called "The Giants Dance" many times in its' history. With one origin story that it was nicked from Ireland. Even our prehistoric forbears were acquiring a taste for looting. 😀

Whereas the latest research shows that it was brought from close to the west coast of Wales, so roughly the right direction 😁. They've even found the original position the Bluestones stood in before being moved to Wiltshire.

If you watch videos by archaeologists and even stonemasons, you'll easily find out how the pyramids were built. I can see that dramatic conspiracy videos with all the music, historically inaccurate drawings and interspersed 'mystical symbols' probably make the viewer feel more special, though.

On that subject, the aliens were humanoids with animal heads. They're depicted all over the tomb walls. Fuck knows why the entombed were actual humans, though. I suppose the aliens landed, said "Hi, we're gods. Bring us gifts and we'll use our advanced laser technology to build giant tombs for your aristocrats. Cool, huh? No, you can't use our technology for your daily lives! You'll have to keep carving your memorial texts into stone using chisels, grinding corn by hand and using long sticks to figure out when the Nile's going to flood. Enjoy the pyramids! Bye!"

Late to this thread but I love this!! Also loved the idea that they were built by wombles.

(If anyone wants the boring truth they developed out of mastabas piled on top of each other to make step pyramids.)

There have been many many many civilization collapses and we are living in a many-many-many times post apocalyptic culture. I can’t remember all the dates and cant be arsed googling before early rise tomorrow. But if I remember correctly some of the OT stuff may date to known climate changes causing collapses in Egypt, perhaps driving the collapse of its first kingdom, and the Bronze Age collapse may have had climate change as a cause too. I came across a fascinating theory about the Trojan War causing rebellions and collapses and it may have helped. There are usually many causes involved in collapse but climate change is absolute and cannot be negotiated.

I guess some lead to 'giants' and a number of 'theories' around them too.
As with all CT, what is the point, why are they 'being kept from us'?

PollyBell · 08/12/2025 20:49

MusicMakesItAllBetter · 07/12/2025 10:44

But why not??

We truly don't know so why can't we have speculation and open minds?

I could come up with a conspiracy that a gorilla wrote all of Taylor Swift songs or dinosaurs are a Disney creation or Covid didnt exist and was really an episode of Emmerdale, or Autism is make believe, or all 'black' (to use a generic term) people should be removed from the UK is all this ok?

So where does it end? who decides what is allowed or not? if we are going down the its just a conspiracy theory it is all ok

Agree. And Why ? is usually my first question too.

I fund the giants thing interesting. We all know there various legends about giants in loads of cultures, but what is less known is that the Bible mentions them. So giants are a favorite of US fundie Christians.

Gen 6:4 The giants were in the earth in those days, and even afterward, when sons of God come in to the daughters of men, and they have borne to them those who [were] the mighty from of old, the men of renown.

It's in the Noah's ark story, and as we know, lots of Americans believe the Noah story to be true. 60% according to some polls ( but 60% is disputed).

That line in Genesis is thought to be a remanent from earlier versions of the story, and it follows on from the Books of Enoch. Texts that were not included in the Bible. The Apocrypha.

The Ethiopian Coptic Church still uses the first book of Enoch. I think some of the others are considered lost.

The book of Enoch we do have is a really wild ride. Lots of giants.

So yup, it appears that's why Giants are popular among many fundies. And throw in David and Goliath too.

I’m not sure I could be married to someone who thinks pyramids were built by aliens despite all evidence showing exactly how humans built them! Does that include ALL pyramids, Sudan etc or just the Egyptian ones??
My lovely friend is married to a guy who’s well into conspiracy theories - faked moon landings, flat earth, aliens building anything bigger than a normal size house - but he’s actually a really kind and caring dad other than being a total moron!

Firstly he is a wonderful husband, works hard, brilliant dad, would do anything for me! Compared to some of the shit I read on here about bad husbands I feel lucky to have landed such a lovely one.
That said he does seem to love a conspiracy theory.
Over the years he’s questioned, the moon landing and 9/11.
I can normally talk sense into him but he won’t budge on the pyramids.
It doesn’t bother me because it doesn’t matter either way, he’s hurting no one.
If he was walking around the 9/11 memorial screaming that George Bush was responsible or refused to believe in Covid.. Things that could cause real hurt or damage then I’d have a problem.

could be worse - he could be quoting from The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail...

Pukkajones · 09/12/2025 17:10

For my friend the plus side is he spends so
much time at home exploring his conspiracy theories that he’s always around for the kids and she can get out to see friends, exercise
etc etc!

Pukkajones · 09/12/2025 17:12

I like talking to the crazy husband, I find his POV fascinating sometimes … and he goes into so much detail that it can actually be interesting. If a little bananas.

FFS.

I have lost faith in humanity - who the fuck can believe such utter shite?

The pandemic revealed, in unpleasant great detail, that we're surrounded by easily-taken-in, uneducated, conspiracy theorists. I think the human race is doomed....

I just roll my eyes at my husband to let him know I’m not interested.
My hairdresser is a massive conspiracy theorist and I just let her natter away. She was telling me some insane stuff about Beyoncé, Jay Z, Nick carter, Justin beiber. All related to Epstein and Diddy, can’t remember it all now but according to her Beyoncé is similar to Rose West. She fully believes this too.

It’s the detail that gets me. Friends DH went through the moon landing thing ( I mean who knows, that one could be true) and he had photos and charts and all sorts of stuff. I was mesmerised! That the earth is flat with a big ice wall at the ends? Not so much.

With the moon landing, I don't see how we could do it then with less technology and not have done it since.....

The whole women going to space thing. I think that was fascicle too.
