Do people not realise that for those who welcome them into the family they are part of the family. And if you have a dog and say it's just a dog, I'm not sure you should have one.

I’m not the one who relies on picking up fresh warm shit to feel happy.

I’m not a dog owner but I imagine that most, if not all, dog owners pick up shit as part of being a responsible owner rather than having coprophilia.

Surprised any poster’s brain would go to shit = happiness, but whatever floats your particular boat I guess.

Yes, but I don't think anyone has said you aren't allowed to be upset by that. I certainly haven't. I had to have my 21 year old cat put to sleep last year - I held her and sobbed while she died. I still feel sad about her now. No one's taking that away from me. Her life had value. I just don't believe it had the same value, at a societal level, of a human being.

No, but you would be pretty upset if someone said that on a societal level you should not really be upset as she was "just a cat".
Anyone doing that would be a heartless twat. And I think that was the point of the OP.

I’m entitled to my opinion and I am allowed to share it. Suck it up.

You seem to be a deeply unpleasant person. There is something quite frightening about people that completely lack empathy.
If you have children, try and imagine how you might feel if someone wanted to drop them in the sea or shoot them. Animal or child if someone deeply loves, then it is upsetting to read nasty and weirdly disturbing comments of the sort that you feel compelled to make.

I'm sorry, I'm confused as I thought the OP was about someone not inviting a dog for Christmas dinner.

Obviously, it would be a horrible thing to say to someone whose pet had just died that it was only a cat/dog/rabbit/whatever. I do not disagree with you on that.

A dog is just a dog .. it’s not a dog like human. Infantilising dogs has gone too far now.

Infantilising - treat (someone) as a child or in a way which denies their maturity in age or experience.

Um, no. Not here.

No, they have said they view them as equal to humans. Hence the loons who say they would choose the life of their dog over the life of a human baby. I suggest you read the thread as it's there in black and white.

We would (hypothetically) choose a being we love over a being we have no emotional connection with.

And it doesn't mean that we would just leave the fire / body of water / car crash site with our dog under the arm and say "Phew that was tricky but all good now, let's get ourselves back home now Fido, Strictly is starting soon!" which seems to be the scenario playing in your mind.

Children are completely different to dogs.

Dogs are genetic aberrations that should not exist - they’re gene spliced freaks which would not occur in nature.

They pervade our space without consent, causing only negative effects to everyone but their owners.

One day, human children will pay our pensions and look after us in hospital. While dogs will just make our streets reek of piss.

I have not seen that thread.
I am getting shit off my father because I am staying home this year instead of my xmas stay at my parents. My dog is very old and she will not like the change of scenery for a few days. It would not be fair on her. I have been given "she is just a dog" spiel too. Also "put her in kennels". She has been in kennels once and that was about 13 years ago. She starved herself.

Apparently we have a generation of workshy youngsters that will not be paying your pension or looking after you in hospital. But that is a whole different thread.

Have you ever lived in a city centre? The streets smell of piss due to humans pissing, not dogs.

I don't even know why I am engaging with you. How is the massive shitting pissing dog simulation box/robot thing going?

Don't feed them, they clearly get off on upsetting people. People who gob off like that on the internet would likely piss themselves at a real life confrontation.

Some people are willfully ignorant on all sorts of subjects OP.

I've owned dogs all my life and if those who don't, don't understand that they're very much part of the family, I couldn't give a shiny shit 🤷‍♂️

They're happy to live in that ignorant bubble so it's all good.

They are part of your family. My sister has dogs, she loves them, I respect that. I don't like dogs and i'll never allow them in my home. My sister respects that. I have cats, my sister does'nt like cats, they are not welcome in her home. Though i now have a Bengal kitten and my sister is smitten.

I mean I'm on the side that children are more valuable than dogs but your posts are just nuts now.

I disagree though, I would always pick a human child (or even just a human!), even one I didn't know, over an animal, any animal - even one of my own beloved pets.

The exception would be a human I already knew was a terrible person.

We have an absolutely beloved dog. It’s still a dog.

Not a furbaby, not like having a child, not even close.

You should have seen me march a total prick of a dog out of a pub on its hind legs.

No problem at all with confrontation.

Wow, you sound well hard.
The real problem was the owner. But you would not have engaged with them as you would have had a gobfull back. Easier to wrench an animal into an uncomfortable and unnatural position and dump it outside.

So do I. Not a single person with a dog has said they are human.

Notadame · 06/12/2025 23:31

I think it's the anthropomorphisation of animals I object to. The ascribing of human personality traits that it's simply not possible for them to have. Obviously animals have personalities in abundance, they do have complex social behaviour, and they do form strong emotional attachments to humans (and vice versa), but the reason your dog/cat/budgie/hamster gives you unconditional love is because it lacks the capacity to see, analyse and understand the nuances, emotional complexities, depth and flaws which all humans have. It doesn't have the ability to see you as you are. Animals have feelings, but they do not have human feelings.

That poster is unhinged but can we please not trot out the same tired old the problem is the owner stuff. Sometimes the problem is the dog.

It can be both. A badly behaved dog that is enabled by an owner that does not care.
But I am not sure how forcing a dog to walk on its hind legs and being dumped outside actually helps. The dog will not understand. But that poster wont engage with the owner as they would have had their arse handed to them. Coward.
