To think it is not at all sad that the Women's Institute is now only for actual women?

“Incredibly sadly, we will have to restrict our membership on the basis of biological sex from April next year,” Green said. “But the message we really want to get across is that it remains our firm belief that transgender women are women, and that doesn’t change.”

Tellingly - they still think women can have a penis.

Women’s Institute will no longer accept trans women as members from April

I love that film. See also: Tootsie. Have never seen Mrs Doubtfire.

That’s for comedic effect, they weren’t even trying to be convincing.

Yes it was exaggerated but I’ve never seen a transwoman walk in high heels like Marilyn Monroe. I have seen a couple walk like Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon though.

I’ve seen plenty of natal women walk like them in heels too. And of course La Voix not only walks in high heels but can dance in them too.

Gloriia · 09/12/2025 17:46

'I’ve seen plenty of natal women walk like them'

Do you mean women?

TheaBrandt1 · 09/12/2025 18:06

“Natal women” what the actual hell?!

TheKeatingFive · 09/12/2025 18:10

Extraordinary to suggest that there's another kind of woman, other than the one's born as women.

How did we get here?

Years of enabling and delusion.

We have to say to no to cis and natal silly labels. It is women.

Who the fuck is La Voix?

and no
i am not looking it up!

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 09/12/2025 18:42

Drag queen

Drag queen. Real name Christopher Dennis. Doesn't pretend he really is a woman, to my knowledge.

SabrinaThwaite · 09/12/2025 11:48

Men also use their shoulders differently when walking, tend to have higher body mass and a longer stride, which all makes a difference.

Gendered footwear also has a big impact, I’m not sure that I’d be quite as confident identifying someone as male if they’re tottering along in high heels (unless they still walk like a brickie in work boots).

Yes.

They use their shoulders differently because they have that different centre of balance and that hip alignment.

However, that shoulder movement is not necessarily going to change the 'sound' though. But it absolutely is part of the visual differences.

On Strictly he came across very much like the old school “female impersonators”, with La Voix being a character he plays. He did quite well I thought.

Males use their shoulders more than their hips, females use their hips more than their shoulders - this is a factor that makes male and female gaits distinctive but it also changes the centre of movement.

Additionally, the shape of male feet means that they have a greater plantar contact area with the ground than female feet - so yeah, they make a different sound.

They also have longer strides too which can be picked up in the sound of footsteps.

I used to jog on a busy path, generally I could tell the sex of the person coming up behind me from
the sound of their steps.

ProfessorMyAmpleSheep · 10/12/2025 02:47

Here’s an online gait simulator in which you can move a slider to change from male-typical to female, in varying amounts (as well as other attributes):

https://www.biomotionlab.ca/Demos/bmlwalker/#

open the menu top right if you don’t see the options.

the most obvious difference between male and female there is the direction of motion of the hips: “male” hips go down to follow the foot, “female” hips go up as the foot extends.

I was behind someone the other day who had short hair, wore jeans and a hoodie and was using a walking stick. Still knew she was a woman (confirmed when I passed her and glanced over). And even if I hadn't... so what?

Indeed. So what.
I never get all this argument about whether men can pass as women from either side. Because it doesn't matter in the slightest whether now and again, a slightly built man with lots of money who took puberty blockers and subjected himself to surgeries can fool people or not, other than that he presents an additional challenge when it comes to protecting single sex spaces.
I don't understand what purpose the passing TW serves to TRAs, other than to establish a hierarchy within their own community that is divisive and throws the 'bricks' under the bus.
Nor do I understand why an insistence we can never be fooled serves women. There have been both women and men misled into believing men were women leading to them engaging with men in a variety of ways without informed consent. To assert we can always tell seems to minimise their experience and can lead to victim blaming. Like the recent case of a man sexually assaulted by a man, who's case rested on the fact he believed the man to be a woman. Cue a barrage of disbelief and 'he must be blind' comments that cast doubt on the validity of his case.

Helleofabore · 10/12/2025 08:59

I don’t think every female person can always correctly identify the sex of a male person. There are many reasons why not, from cognitive issues to sight issues and just plain lack of attention.

However, there is so much misinformation in minimising the chances that at some point some female person will correctly sex a male person who says they are female. Some female people will be very vigilant and will be correct nearly every time. Others will not be paying attention or may not be interested.

The reality is no male person will ‘pass’ all the time. Yet, there is this myth perpetuated that they will and it is an empty argument from activists too heavily invested in keeping the myth going as I believe they think this is kind. It is actually not kind and puts huge pressure on everyone.

They need to cling to the "passing TW" and "you can never tell" because they use it for the "therefore there is no point to single sex spaces" stuff. Although of course, they never argue for designated unisex spaces, which would be the actual logical conclusion of that. They still want designated single sex female spaces, so that men can use them. I don't know how their brains don't melt.

They also never suggest that we ditch all traffic controls simply because some people get away sometimes with running red lights or speeding. They certainly never suggest that getting away with it means they weren't doing it. It's only women's rights and safeguards that they think are pointless if they can't be perfectly kept at all times... and that, in yet more irony, is precisely why we need them.

I'm done with their lies, their gaslighting, their sexism, their absurdity, their fire and brimstone rhetoric about how we are more evil than Hitler, their foot stamping and pretence. I'm absolutely done. Even if we lost every court case, even if the entire world became a deranged totalitarian state that hangs everyone who says men aren't women and never reverts to sanity, it wouldn't change reality. Men aren't women. It's that simple. They're just not.

yes. No destabilising language, or science or prioritising philosophical theories over material reality works and if that is what is needed to convince others, it simply isn’t true.

Well said, 100% agree 👏

Yes, the lies, humpty dumpty language and authoritarianism have broken something in me too.

I have decided that I will never use 'transwoman' or 'transman' again. I just can't take the mental load of the sex-denial Stroop test anymore.

I'm going back to transexual and tansvestite. I will use male and female to mean biological sex. Man and Woman are sex-based words.

This is where you're going astray a bit. Both transmen and trans women are trans sexual. Transvestite is a person who wears the clothes normally associated with the opposite sex, can be for any reason, normally they have no wish to change sex.

But transvestites are included under the trans umbrella so trans is used to refer to both transvestites and transexuals
