To think it is not at all sad that the Women's Institute is now only for actual women?

“Incredibly sadly, we will have to restrict our membership on the basis of biological sex from April next year,” Green said. “But the message we really want to get across is that it remains our firm belief that transgender women are women, and that doesn’t change.”

Tellingly - they still think women can have a penis.

Women’s Institute will no longer accept trans women as members from April

😂😂😂

Are you going to go to your next local orchestra concert and shout about how hateful and bigoted they're being? 😂

Yeah. And I'll wave a clarinet while telling everyone it's a French horn and they're bigoted hateful toxic clarinetphobes if they don't agree.

Still haven't got an answer to the question, have we? What are they waiting for?

TheKeatingFive · 08/12/2025 10:30

Genuine question here.

All anyone is saying on this thread is ... if spaces, societies, services are labelled single sex, for women ... then no males should be included.

Can someone PLEASE explain to me what is so hateful, bigoted, toxic, etc etc about that position?

Helleofabore · 08/12/2025 10:34

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/12/2025 10:17

I know, perhaps the pp would be better off starting a thread about why the Women’s Institute is silly.

Yes. They should indeed do that rather than making comments on a thread about something that they don't even care about.

Hoppinggreen · 08/12/2025 10:37

I am too cool to join WI but I do feel I should get to dictate who is allowed to and who isn't
OR YOU ARE BIGOTS!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you even know what being marginalised means?

A quick google gives you:

To be marginalized means to be pushed to the edges of society, treated as unimportant, and prevented from fully participating in social, economic, or political life, often due to discrimination or low status, leaving individuals or groups powerless and excluded from mainstream opportunities and decisions.
Simple breakdown:

  • Being pushed aside: Being treated as if you don't belong or aren't as important as others.
  • Losing power: Having little to no influence on decisions that affect you.
  • Limited access: Difficulty getting basic services, opportunities, or rights.
  • Exclusion: Being shut out from mainstream society, work, or politics.

As far as I can tell, trans people, and trans women in particular, are none of those things.

Demanding rights that are contrary to the law, demanding and getting language changed, having month long celebrations in your honour, demanding that society fits around your ideology and demonising anyone who disagrees or questions you, is about as far from being marginalised as you can fucking get.

Being told ’no’ is not being marginalised.

Indeed.

Considering the power that a group of people had over the BBC, and the fact that Stonewall acted for years without censure for advising organisations to implement policies that were not lawful despite Stonewall's legal team trying to say it was, some of these points really highlight who is not quite a marginalised as some people wish to declare.

This doesn’t happen any more because MN has recognised that sex realistic beliefs and protecting the rights of women and girls to privacy, dignity and safety are perfectly valid and not “toxic” at all.
Trans identifying people have their own protection but their rights don’t trump those of women and girls.
Also, what works for you may not work for others. It’s rather presumptuous to assume that your own views apply to all other women, many of whom may not always prefer mixed company, or in fact find it very uncomfortable, or not be allowed to be in it.

It’s so awful that you’re forced to read the thread and post on it and are unable to simply scroll past it. Most oppressive.

Very difficult seeing as I have hidden the feminist section as I don't want to see that toxicity and vitriol and then the poster posts in a section used by others trying to avoid it

S1ngS1ng · 08/12/2025 09:59

No it’s called people disagreeing with you and calling out bigotry. Emotional manipulation is posters like yourself trying to make bigotry into some brave, self congratulating crusade. It isn’t. You don’t speak for all women and many many women disagree with you.

Most women however do not disagree. Men as well. Worldwide, in fact just UK wide, there is very little empathy for the statement trans women are women and should be treated as such. Like ~15% or something.

You think feminists are toxic and vitriolic?

Could you point at the bad thread and tell the court where it hurt you?

Yes and scandal riddled WPATH (that's "We're all just winging it" experimental surgery, eunuch gender on the NHS information pages, WPATH) being held up as the gold standard for trans healthcare by the Scottish Government.

I think to some extent it arises from stupidity, lack of common sense and the inability to think things through logically.

A: In the past it was legal to treat people from minority ethnic groups, women and gay people worse than other people just because of who they were.

B: Oh wow, that's awful. Nobody should ever be excluded just because of who they are! The people doing the excluding are terrible bigots.

A: And now some people want to treat the trans community worse than other people just because of who they are! They're being treated just like Black people in the deep south.

What is lacking here, of course, is B having a little think about this and saying But hang on a minute, I thought women were treated badly in the past? Is that why they have these special spaces and services, not so they can keep other oppressed people out and preserve their privileged status even though it makes them unkind, but to keep them safe and maintain their privacy and dignity? How would that be affected if they had to let males in?

But that would require B to take the risk of being labelled a bigot and (gasp) UNKIND and take the risk of being ostracised, sacked etc etc, so it hasn't happened much. Plus, of course. the education system has badly let a lot of young people down by not training them to think for themselves and learn how to argue their point and critically evaluate other people's arguments.

Maddy70 · 08/12/2025 10:49

So you are perfectly happy with a trans man being in "women's" spaces as they were born male. Bonkers

Ummm a transman was born female. So yes. Perfectly welcome in women’s spaces. You seem confused.

No, trans men are born female. That's why they are trans and why they can be in female spaces.

You think that's "bonkers"? Are you feeling ok?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/12/2025 10:53

Maddy70 · 08/12/2025 10:49

What? Trans-identified females, which is what transmen are, are female. They can identify as a man as much as they like but as it's not possible to change sex they will remain female to the end of their days. How can you say they were born male? Male means having a body organised around the production of small gametes, i.e. sperm. Female means having a body organised around the production of large gametes, i.e. ova, and having the reproductive system necessary to go through pregnancy, childbirth and lactation. Even if the person concerned has a developmental or medical problem that means the reproductive system doesn't work properly, even if they choose not to reproduce or circumstances mean they never get the chance, their body type remains male or female, from conception on.

ThatCyanCat · 08/12/2025 10:53

Feminine username, absolute fury at the concept of feminism, doesn't see any need for female spaces, doesn't understand transmen are born female, calls people insane for recognising that they are.

Checks out, I guess.

The problem is they can't give a straight answer. They may as well come right out and say "Look I'm an old fashioned sexist, I don't think women should have rights etc" and just have done with it.

It'd be more honest at least.

It’s not difficult not to post on threads you’re not interested in. MILs, Xmas, weight loss etc etc etc. No need to engage unless you want to! So I guess you must.

It'd be more honest at least.

One reason why this lunacy gained so much traction was because a lot of men, who don't claim to be women but are misogynists, recognised that it undermined women's rights, autonomy, safeguards and boundaries, and that they could throw their weight behind it while claiming to be progressive and the women who objected were the dinosaurs, bigots, etc.

There's a kind of demented beauty in a total sexist trying to claim sex doesn't exist and people should never be grouped by their sex...

Helleofabore · 08/12/2025 11:05

"then the poster posts in a section used by others trying to avoid it"

then the poster posts in a [general interest] section used by others trying to avoid it [who can choose not to engage and to scroll past] [and many posters who are interested but don't visit other boards].

Fixed it.
