Girl Guides are now GIRL ONLY!

1000 replies

Iamwhoiamwhoareyou · 02/12/2025 14:41

Following April's supreme court ruling, the Girl Guides have FINALLY made a statement and will remain GIRLS ONLY - Finally closing the door on admitting trans members or allowing BOYS to invade female only spaces/camp (which, would be done without informing parents that their daughter would be sharing a room with a biological male!) - I have a previous post in feminism chat for anyone wanting to read the previous thread on this

EMAIL RECEIVED HOT OFF THE PRESS 5 MIN AGO -

As the parent of a young member in Girlguiding, following April’s Supreme Court decision relating to sex and gender, we wanted to give you an update. Many organisations across the country have been facing complex decisions about what it means for girls and women and for the wider communities affected, including us.

Girlguiding’s governing charity documents set out that the membership and people who benefit from our organisation are girls and women. In April, the Supreme Court ruled that girls and women are defined in the Equality Act 2010 by their biological sex at birth.
Following detailed considerations, expert legal advice and input from senior members, young members and our Council, Girlguiding’s Board of Trustees has made the difficult decision that Girlguiding must change Girlguiding must change, following the Supreme Court’s ruling.

From today, 2 December, it is with a heavy heart that we are announcing trans girls and young women will no longer be able to join Girlguiding. This is a decision we would have preferred not to make, and we know that this may be upsetting for members of our community.

There will be no immediate changes for current young members but more information will be shared next week.

Most adult roles, including unit helpers, district helpers and administrative support, are already open to all, so we are confident that no volunteers will have to leave the organisation.

Girlguiding believes strongly in our value of inclusion, and we will continue to support young people and adults in marginalised groups. Over the next few months, we'll explore opportunities to champion this value and actively support young people who need us.

You can find our full statement and updated policy on our website.

We are proud to be the UK’s largest youth organisation dedicated to girls and is focused on creating an equal world for girls and young women. For over 100 years, we have been a welcoming space for all girls to have new experiences, support their communities, build friendships and grow their confidence.

While Girlguiding may feel a little different going forward, these core aims and principles will always be the same. We remain committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect, particularly those from marginalised groups that have felt the biggest impact of this decision.

If you have any immediate questions, we have our special support team in place, to give volunteers, parents and carers the best support we can. We are asking Girlguiding HQ, trading and country/region staff to refer any volunteer or parent who has questions about this announcement. Details below.

Contact [email protected] or 020 7532 3970
All calls/emails will be confidential, and the service will be open 24hrs, 7 days a week.

I think we need to acknowledge that some posters will reject anything that they don't agree with while accusing people of not listening to their opinions.

This is also a consistent pattern. They will grasp the one thing they feel supports their belief and ignore all the other evidence to the contrary.

Once you see it, you cannot unsee it.

This.

Good news. Sanity is gradually returning.

But it’s not boys they’re excluding, it’s trans girls.

I think we’re all sitting here waiting for you to explain the difference

dynamiccactus · 02/12/2025 17:17

55% of women support people to identify how they like socially

You mean 55% of women support gender (sex) stereotyping? So if I wear trousers and a flat cap I must be identifying as a bloke, and if a bloke wants to wear heels and a dress, he is living in the female gender?

A boy who likes to do traditional girly things isn't a trans girl, he's a boy who likes to do girly things. A lot of hobbies, including the more girlie ones, are open to everyone, not just girls.

PolyVagalNerve · 02/12/2025 17:17

HolidayHattie · 02/12/2025 15:28

No new trans girls can join, but any already "in" can stay. How can that possibly work?

So it seems …. But at least leaders can now challenge this BS and should risk getting thrown out as a trans girl / BOY in guiding is going against GG policy …. And the law !!!!

SternJoyousBeev2 · 02/12/2025 17:18

justpassmethemouse · 02/12/2025 17:02

It’s still sad, no matter how small the minority. Every little piece of trans exclusion & non binary exclusion is sad.

Don’t be silly. Maintaining rights for women and girls is not sad.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/12/2025 17:18

dynamiccactus · 02/12/2025 17:14

Probably trying to avoid being attacked by the TRAs. We know how aggressive they are.

The trans girls can join the scouts instead.

That tactic isn’t going to work.

IAxolotlQuestions · 02/12/2025 17:18

About bloody time!

britneyisfreebutnotokay · 02/12/2025 17:19

New to guides as a volunteer. DC and I were both slightly horrified when a man came in to help one day. At bedtime she asked me why he was there if it’s meant to be for girls. It should be an all female environment. No need for men unless it’s for a specific purpose or event that they can’t find a woman for.

Mumofmarauders · 02/12/2025 17:19

LittleJustice · 02/12/2025 14:48

I didn't realise men could volunteer actually so that's not exclusively female then?

Me neither, and this is what I’m most concerned about! My DD has recently moved up from Brownies where we knew all the owls and parents were really involved but it’s much less so with guides and I’m really not sure about camps etc where male volunteers might be.
although I do think this decision (which I would have thought is the opposite of complex 🙄) is good news in relation to kids of guides-age, so that’s a win!

This utterly baffles me.

Are people seriously concerned a 4 year old male is going to cause harm to their girls? But no one has ever questioned the fact that grown adult men are involved in Girl Guides all the time. Even if they aren’t part of the actual organisation they are often involved in the locations where the camps are run and the activities they do.

30 years ago a grown adult man locked me in a wardrobe as a punishment (fork through the door handles) for chatting in the bunks at night on a Guides camp. I was 10. The things people focus on regarding women and girls safety is moral panic hysteria and has zero grounding in the reality of the dangers kids face.

People merrily dropping their 10 year old girls at a mates house for a sleep over with grown adult men or teen boys in the house who they don’t know, but God forbid a 4 year old boy joins Rainbows.

Edited

Er no the issue with the 4 year old is that they are 4 and a boy and this is clearly some kind of trans munchausens by proxy. Unfortunately not much society can do about that in its capture state but other organisations like Girl Guides or adults working within it should not be compelled to contribute and reinforce this abuse.

I'm incredibly disappointed by this decision. This is not my Girlguiding. My Girlguiding is a safe space for ALL girls. We have been educating and raising allies. Calling out discrimination and bullying and teaching our girls to do the same. Sadly this does make me reflect on my role as a volunteer and if I can continue to be in an organisation that doesn't align to my values.

sounds like brainwash camp to me

boys are male and are not and can not ever be girls. It is not discrimination to have a single sex space

ParmaVioletTea · 02/12/2025 17:22

Wonderful news!

Do you think they'll apologise to Dr Katie Alcock??? She's had her job threatened and life made quite difficult because of her stalwart defence of single sex Girl Guiding.

You have this wrong; people are not concerned about the danger posed by a 4 year old boy. They are concerned about the damage done to the boy by everyone lying about it - his parents and the guide leaders; they are concerned about being forced to collude with a lie; and they are concerned about gaslighting the girls by pretending that he is a girl. It's fucked up and it's a breach of the girls' trust.

bridgetreilly · 02/12/2025 17:24

They have clear charitable objectives; it has legally been spelled out to them what they mean and it is shocking that it has taken so long for them to comply.

It is, however, your law.

Can we just take a moment to acknowledge Helen Watts and Katie Alcock, both guide leaders, who sounded the alarm about what GG was up to, about 8 years ago now.

They got kicked out for challenging the change from single sex to mixed sex. Julia Bentley was in charge at the time. She went on to head up Age UK IIRC.

I am very pleased to see that they have been vindicated.

Hopefully that particular volunteer will fuck off and take their bullying, brainwashing (under the guise of #bekind ) of young girls elsewhere

A four year old boy has never joined rainbows

girlguiding HQ have been on some self promoting mission to say to the world we are so right on and progressive trans girls / boys can join us / we are so inclusive / cool / clever etc …

whilst real GG members have thought this is ludicrous

no 4 year old child is trans
any 4 year old being gaslighted with trans ideology is being abused. They don’t need rainbows, they need child safeguarding

Cross post whilst I was typing.

Hear, hear @ParmaVioletTea .

AdventAnnie · 02/12/2025 17:28

@LucyMonth I see it completely differently - a man assisting at GG is still turning up as a man. No one is gaslighting our girls when that man turns up by saying, “this is Mrs Brown, you can call her Abigail. Doesn’t she have a pretty skirt?”

The difference is along comes the trans girl and we are expected to pretend this child is a girl - use girl pronouns, ignore the fact the child is biologically male. And yes, as they get older and the trans girl become stronger and faster than the girls there’s a risk of physical harm, but more than that js the psycho-social harm of forcing the other girls to deny a biological reality in order to mollify a male person; of training those girls to be “allies” who don’t allow anyone to question what they see before their eyes (a boy or man, masquerading as a girl or woman).

There are many mixed youth organisations that trans children could join and I don’t see why GG has to accommodate boys.

I didn’t. But thanks for checking!

I am one of the few voices on this post offering a different view, so I have been replying to the multiple other posts, some of which are downright nasty, so I have taken a breather.

I found it difficult to read because of all the bold shouting, and I won’t click on links, so went straight to the source of yougov, which shows that 55% of women support people to identify how they like socially. In my personal experience, it’s higher, but we only know about the people we interact with.

Here you go, just so you don't have to click any links and I will present it in a way that is very clear which data point refers to which year:

Do you think a transgender woman who has not had gender reassignment surgery should or should not be allowed to...

Use women's changing rooms? 2020 in italics, 2022 in [brackets] vs 2024
Should be allowed
2020 : 26
2022 : 25
2024: 19%.
2020 - 2024 shows a decrease by 7%

Should not be allowed
2020 : 46
2022 : 48
2024 : 63%.
2020 - 2024* *this is an increase by 17%

Don't know
2020 : 28* *
2022 : 27
2024 : 18%.
2020 - 2024 this is decrease by 10%

The polling shows that ONLY 19% of people in the UK believe that a male person with having their penis removed should definitely be allowed to access a female changing room.

Use women's toilets?

Should be allowed
2020: 31
2022 : 29
2024 : 23%.
2020 - 2024* *this is a decrease by 8%

Should not be allowed
2020: 41
2022 : 46
2024 : 60%.
2020 - 2024 this is an increase by 19%

Don't know
2020 : 27
2022 : 25
2024 : 18%.
2020 - 2024 this is decrease by 9%

The polling shows that ONLY 23% of people in the UK believe that a male person with having their penis removed should definitely be allowed to access a female toilet.

When asked about specific applications that force a person to show what they support or don't support when they mean they 'support a person to live in their gender' there are very clearly limitations to this. There is a huge drop in support when people are asked a specific question about inclusion. It shows that people answer very positively about a general level of support, but it doesn't show in the finer details.

This information was in the finer detail of the link you even clicked but chose not to read further on.

This is actually insane. That poor, confused child is being let down by their parents/guardians. My four year old currently wants to a: dinosaur, a fire truck, a fairy princess, a cat, a girl with a hat (he's quite specific when playing), a volcano and even a unicorn. I play with him and pretend he's all of these things because he is FOUR FUCKING YEARS OLD.

Whoever that child is whose parents are telling him he's actually a girl are INSANE. What a safeguarding nightmare. This whole ideology is a safeguarding nightmare.

My 4 year old told me she was an elephant last week and made me stand still whilst holding a bunch of grapes so she could eat them off the tree (I was apparently the tree). The next day she was a cat.

4 year olds should never have those kinds of ideas put in their heads. I could tell my daughter she was a 7 legged penguin and she’d run with it without a second thought. Any child who declares they are the opposite sex has had that idea put to them by another person.

Its not trans exclusion its male exclusion plus girls who identify as transboys are now included in GG where they were excluded for being trans under the old policy

Isittimeformynapyet · 02/12/2025 17:31

Throckmorton · 02/12/2025 15:05

Indeed. And presumably now the girls who identify as trans, who were excluded before I think, can now join. Win win

Eh?
