Girl Guides are now GIRL ONLY!

1000 replies

Iamwhoiamwhoareyou · 02/12/2025 14:41

Following April's supreme court ruling, the Girl Guides have FINALLY made a statement and will remain GIRLS ONLY - Finally closing the door on admitting trans members or allowing BOYS to invade female only spaces/camp (which, would be done without informing parents that their daughter would be sharing a room with a biological male!) - I have a previous post in feminism chat for anyone wanting to read the previous thread on this

EMAIL RECEIVED HOT OFF THE PRESS 5 MIN AGO -

As the parent of a young member in Girlguiding, following April’s Supreme Court decision relating to sex and gender, we wanted to give you an update. Many organisations across the country have been facing complex decisions about what it means for girls and women and for the wider communities affected, including us.

Girlguiding’s governing charity documents set out that the membership and people who benefit from our organisation are girls and women. In April, the Supreme Court ruled that girls and women are defined in the Equality Act 2010 by their biological sex at birth.
Following detailed considerations, expert legal advice and input from senior members, young members and our Council, Girlguiding’s Board of Trustees has made the difficult decision that Girlguiding must change Girlguiding must change, following the Supreme Court’s ruling.

From today, 2 December, it is with a heavy heart that we are announcing trans girls and young women will no longer be able to join Girlguiding. This is a decision we would have preferred not to make, and we know that this may be upsetting for members of our community.

There will be no immediate changes for current young members but more information will be shared next week.

Most adult roles, including unit helpers, district helpers and administrative support, are already open to all, so we are confident that no volunteers will have to leave the organisation.

Girlguiding believes strongly in our value of inclusion, and we will continue to support young people and adults in marginalised groups. Over the next few months, we'll explore opportunities to champion this value and actively support young people who need us.

You can find our full statement and updated policy on our website.

We are proud to be the UK’s largest youth organisation dedicated to girls and is focused on creating an equal world for girls and young women. For over 100 years, we have been a welcoming space for all girls to have new experiences, support their communities, build friendships and grow their confidence.

While Girlguiding may feel a little different going forward, these core aims and principles will always be the same. We remain committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect, particularly those from marginalised groups that have felt the biggest impact of this decision.

If you have any immediate questions, we have our special support team in place, to give volunteers, parents and carers the best support we can. We are asking Girlguiding HQ, trading and country/region staff to refer any volunteer or parent who has questions about this announcement. Details below.

Contact [email protected] or 020 7532 3970
All calls/emails will be confidential, and the service will be open 24hrs, 7 days a week.

But it’s not boys they’re excluding, it’s trans girls.

Transgirls are boys so yes it is boys who are being excluded

Devastated for the girls that will now have to leave.

No biological girls will have to leave GG

DeadsoulsAngel · 02/12/2025 17:34

Locally, at least for us, girl guiding is non existent, completely closed down, all rainbows through to guide groups - scouts is extremely popular though so not because of lack of demand for this type of group. If similar is happening elsewhere, in addition to the Supreme Court’s ruling, this might be an attempt to rekindle interest/affirm parents faith in safeguarding. Surely they realise how far from the actual original premise of girl guiding they’ve gone??

oof - some of the comments on girlguiding facebook

I'm incredibly disappointed by this decision. This is not my Girlguiding. My Girlguiding is a safe space for ALL girls. We have been educating and raising allies. Calling out discrimination and bullying and teaching our girls to do the same. Sadly this does make me reflect on my role as a volunteer and if I can continue to be in an organisation that doesn't align to my values.

sounds like brainwash camp to me

"Educating and raising allies"
"Teaching our girls..."

I think the word you're looking for is "indoctrinating".

You're the one that's been doing the brainwashing. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I posted ages ago about a trans 4 year old on my waiting list for rainbows. I am extremely pleased that I now do not have to offer a place to this child. The whole thing made me extremely uncomfortable

I remember your thread and I am so pleased that you will no longer have to deal with a difficult situation.

I am highly invested in The Girl Guides debacle as my daughter adored being in The Brownies, and stayed on as a young helper for a couple of years. She was a tiny, shy girl, who loved being in a boy free zone, where she blossomed. Also it was the GG situation back in 2017/8 that pushed me to the ‘wicked Feminism’ pages of Mumsnet, and made me the out and proud GC woman that I now am.

Sadly after a woke Secondary school and two stints at Uni my daughter has been indoctrinated into accepting men into women’s spaces, she didn’t need to learn to be kind, she is the kindest person I know. So we have had to agree to differ on the whole Trans debate, although am still hopeful that she will see the error of her ways.

Thank you for all you do for the GG organisation.

Hoardasurass · 02/12/2025 17:30

Its not trans exclusion its male exclusion plus girls who identify as transboys are now included in GG where they were excluded for being trans under the old policy

But Hoardasurass, it seems to be the male people with transgender identities that people care most about and not the female people with transgender identities.

Some people have really shown just how much they centre male people with their expressions of disappointment about excluding male people from GG. It was immediately all about centring those male children, not a thought about the inclusion of the female children who needed GG to be only for female children.

I'm glad you don't have to deal with this any more. And telling a 4 year old they were born in the wrong body? That's child abuse.

AnotherPidgey · 02/12/2025 17:40

On male volunteers, the few I've met in the past 20 years have tended to be specialist advisors for outdoor activities (often with Scouting too) or involved in more logistical sides for events such as camps but frequently enough to be worth being DBSed and part of the organisation. I haven't met any that have been regular leaders attached to a pack night.

Ultimately transparency is important, and Girl Guiding's previous policy encouraged obfuscation about the sex of male members using female identities. This prevented members from making informed safeguarding and cultural choices.

I'm not surprised about the outwardly grudging tone of this change of policy. HQ has ridden over the opinions of its members and shut them down regularly on this issue.

I have remained a leader because I do it for the girls in my community.

We have a "transboy" (or "tomboy" in old vocabulary) in our unit. She's young, on waiting lists for assessment for being ND and has rigidly latched on to stereotypes at a very young age. Her parents have tried their best to balance her interests within female environments to challenge that gendered stereotying, and it's healthy for her to have positive experiences in single sex environments so that she has space to develop more nuanced feelings with age rather than becoming more entrenched. Girls can love adventures and football too and female spaces are important to allow girls to develop without the pressure of fitting around boys who tend to dominate easily. Girl Guiding's single gender stance was discriminatory against (biological) girls like her who reject feminine stereotyping.

Incidentally all the "trans" young people at work are ND (bio) girls who favour baggier male uniform, male or neutral names and shorter hair.

This.

It is rather like someone saying the quiet bit out loud or sticking their fingers in their ears when they do this.

Or both.

And it shows that they never actually read the fucking thing that just clicked through on.

HolidayHattie · 02/12/2025 15:28

No new trans girls can join, but any already "in" can stay. How can that possibly work?

I'd love to know how many there are in fact.
Very few, I imagine.

It's more worrying that they're still going to allow men to be volunteers and presumably to supervise trips away from home.
Hmm

PolyVagalNerve · 02/12/2025 17:41

nearlyemptynes · 02/12/2025 16:41

when my son came out he received nothing but support from his scout group a much more inclusive and friendly environment for all than girl guides. Girl guides are teaching girls to be scared of men - not at all healthy.

And the girls in guides who come out, or who are figuring out sexuality are very well accepted within guides,
the guiding promise encourages girls to be ‘true to my beliefs’
blimey even the furries are happily accepted in with ears and tails over their guide uniforms !!!!
but the idiocy of boys pretending they are girls …… no, not the same - and we are doing society, and often the neurodiverse particularly a disservice by encouraging the framing of conflict within the self and society as a ‘trans issue’

What a mealy-mouthed statement.

Isn’t it just!

Absolutely no need to apologise for making the right decision.

They are MALE. They are BOYS. They are not girls. I feel sad for you that you don't understand that female only spaces should be for females. Not boys.

‘With a heavy heart’ PFT!

How did this madness ever happen in the first place - brilliant news!

This is really going to come back and bite Girl Guiding - the way they let male individuals into Girl Guiding, and now their hand-wringing at being forced to prioritise actual, biological girls.

One day - and it cannot come soon enough - hundreds of organisations are going to be brought to account for their craven submission to the trans rights activists, and their willingness to sacrifice the safety, rights and dignity of women and girls.

MrsKateColumbo · 02/12/2025 17:46

I was surprised there was lots of harping on about the male "trans" instead of - good news, trans boys (ie girls) can enjoy GG without worrying about being excluded because of their gender. No mention of trans boys at all, I cant work out why 😐

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/12/2025 17:47

Because only the willy-havers and their feelings matter.

ThatCyanCat · 02/12/2025 17:48

user976534679875 · 02/12/2025 17:07

I didn’t. But thanks for checking!

I am one of the few voices on this post offering a different view, so I have been replying to the multiple other posts, some of which are downright nasty, so I have taken a breather.

I found it difficult to read because of all the bold shouting, and I won’t click on links, so went straight to the source of yougov, which shows that 55% of women support people to identify how they like socially. In my personal experience, it’s higher, but we only know about the people we interact with.

Nobody cares if a man wants to pretend he's a woman. We care when we are forced to pretend he's a woman. That's what the YouGov poll shows. Wear women's clothes and call yourself Betsy if you want, but stay out of spaces meant for women. We don't want it to be illegal for women to have spaces without men in them.

You do know this, so you must also know what it looks like when you bewail girls having their own spaces as if access to them is a male human right.

Scabz · 02/12/2025 17:48

I'd still like to know how I'm meant to check my new starters are biological girls.

ThatCyanCat · 02/12/2025 17:50

Why are some people so absolutely hell bent on getting knobs out around little girls?

Scabz · 02/12/2025 17:48

I'd still like to know how I'm meant to check my new starters are biological girls.

If you can’t work that out perhaps it would be best if you were not a leader in the volunteer sector looking after other people’s children.

ThatBlackCat · 02/12/2025 17:51

justpassmethemouse · 02/12/2025 17:02

It’s still sad, no matter how small the minority. Every little piece of trans exclusion & non binary exclusion is sad.

It's not 'trans' exclusion. It is MALE exclusion from FEMALE spaces. A boy should be allowed to expose his penis to girls in girls only spaces. You've either been brainwashed @justpassmethemouse or you do not understand the issue.

And it's important that this dangerous trans ideology and cult is destroyed. Get back to protecting the rights of the female sex. Female spaces exist to EXCLUDE MALES BY DESIGN.

This is 2025, not the 1940s. Womens rights are important, and the rights of girls to have female only safe spaces matter.

Girl Guides are now GIRL ONLY!

I'd still like to know how I'm meant to check my new starters are biological girls.

Do you struggle with this routinely?

GG managed it for over 100 years. If you can't, best leave it to someone else.

And if you can't tell who's a girl, why do you want spaces designated for girls at all? Why aren't you happy with a designated unisex space? It couldn't be because you know who the girls are and which kids should be used as validation props for which other kids, could it?
