Girl Guides are now GIRL ONLY!

1000 replies

Iamwhoiamwhoareyou · 02/12/2025 14:41

Following April's supreme court ruling, the Girl Guides have FINALLY made a statement and will remain GIRLS ONLY - Finally closing the door on admitting trans members or allowing BOYS to invade female only spaces/camp (which, would be done without informing parents that their daughter would be sharing a room with a biological male!) - I have a previous post in feminism chat for anyone wanting to read the previous thread on this

EMAIL RECEIVED HOT OFF THE PRESS 5 MIN AGO -

As the parent of a young member in Girlguiding, following April’s Supreme Court decision relating to sex and gender, we wanted to give you an update. Many organisations across the country have been facing complex decisions about what it means for girls and women and for the wider communities affected, including us.

Girlguiding’s governing charity documents set out that the membership and people who benefit from our organisation are girls and women. In April, the Supreme Court ruled that girls and women are defined in the Equality Act 2010 by their biological sex at birth.
Following detailed considerations, expert legal advice and input from senior members, young members and our Council, Girlguiding’s Board of Trustees has made the difficult decision that Girlguiding must change Girlguiding must change, following the Supreme Court’s ruling.

From today, 2 December, it is with a heavy heart that we are announcing trans girls and young women will no longer be able to join Girlguiding. This is a decision we would have preferred not to make, and we know that this may be upsetting for members of our community.

There will be no immediate changes for current young members but more information will be shared next week.

Most adult roles, including unit helpers, district helpers and administrative support, are already open to all, so we are confident that no volunteers will have to leave the organisation.

Girlguiding believes strongly in our value of inclusion, and we will continue to support young people and adults in marginalised groups. Over the next few months, we'll explore opportunities to champion this value and actively support young people who need us.

You can find our full statement and updated policy on our website.

We are proud to be the UK’s largest youth organisation dedicated to girls and is focused on creating an equal world for girls and young women. For over 100 years, we have been a welcoming space for all girls to have new experiences, support their communities, build friendships and grow their confidence.

While Girlguiding may feel a little different going forward, these core aims and principles will always be the same. We remain committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect, particularly those from marginalised groups that have felt the biggest impact of this decision.

If you have any immediate questions, we have our special support team in place, to give volunteers, parents and carers the best support we can. We are asking Girlguiding HQ, trading and country/region staff to refer any volunteer or parent who has questions about this announcement. Details below.

Contact [email protected] or 020 7532 3970
All calls/emails will be confidential, and the service will be open 24hrs, 7 days a week.
Find out more, including how this team will handle personal data.

Personally, I rarely post anything on these boards, because there is no point, and because the attacks on any alternative opinion are brutal. There is no space for discussion. In my experience, the GC voice is a minority one, even though it doesn’t sound like it on MN.

Or consider that people on mumsnet can post what they actually think as it is anonymous. On Facebook where you are not anonymous you have to be mindful that people you know will read your comments therefore you either don't comment what you actually think or don't comment at all. I work with a trans woman who is on my Facebook as are some other friends who are believers.

But it’s not boys they’re excluding, it’s trans girls.

Sorry to be the one to break it to you but so called 'trans girls' are boys HTH

I'd still like to know how I'm meant to check my new starters are biological girls.

For goodness sake! If you really struggle with this then ask to see the birth certificate but hopefully little boys who think they are girls won't be trying to join a group they are not meant to be in.

Do you think that there will be some parents who will deliberately disregard and disrespect the GG policy now?

That would be a pretty sad indication of the levels of honesty and integrity of that family if so.

I'm interested in knowing what enclave you exist in @user976534679875 , where feminist voices are the 'minority' one. Some Amish cult? Or a misogynistic enclave? In my experience, feminist voices are the majority one. There is a reason why women are winning this war. It's sad you think women shouldn't have human rights to the extent that you are bold faced enough to admit you think the feminist voice is a 'minority one'. You realise this is 2025, yeah? Not the 1940s?

Do you not have eyeballs in your head, @Scabz ? Genuinely, ask yourself; how do you think civilisation has flourished and bred for millennia? Are you honestly, genuinely saying you can't tell a male from a female on sight? Is that what you are asking us to believe?

Quercus5 · 02/12/2025 17:59

Hurray!

Why would this person lead a girls only group if they don't know what a girl is?

Shall I start a cat shelter and when I don't know what a cat is?

There will be no immediate changes for current young members but more information will be shared next week.

This will be important as they will need to phase out boys either at the end of term, end of year or at the next transition stage (which could be 4 years away).

Most adult roles, including unit helpers, district helpers and administrative support, are already open to all, so we are confident that no volunteers will have to leave the organisation.

However they will need to be careful that TW are not put into positions that men are not, especially regarding supervision at camps.

Lots of leaders on GG Facebook page stating that they intend to keep their "inclusive " troops with boys in them. Plenty of others threatening to leave GG because of this. 🙄

Look beyond the first line in the graphic. To help you, I’m attaching screenshots to this post.

Wow that’s a hot mess. Lots of contradictions in the green tick categories.

Exactly !!!!

it’s like an alien landed and rocked up to a girlguiding meeting and thought darn … my big problem here is …. Which ones are girls ???? 🤣

Linzloopy · 02/12/2025 18:04

Excellent. Now for the WI.

DefinitelyNotDainty · 02/12/2025 18:06

I’ve waited so long for this announcement as a Brownies leader, but it’s left me feeling really flat. I’m so disappointed that the tone has seemingly been designed to reprimand anyone who agrees with the decision.

I absolutely love my unit, and am really proud of the confidence we instil in our brilliant girls during the 3 years they are with us. But more than ever I’ve been left feeling the Girlguiding doesn’t represent me. Strange times.

To be fair, that person obviously doesn't actually lead a GG group. But it's still funny watching these guys thrash around throwing up absurdity after absurdity. Girls' groups must exist but we don't know what a girl is but we know a boy is a girl if he says he is.

Gender ideology: the belief that we never know what sex someone is, but we always know what sex someone is claiming to be, and all while believing sex doesn't exist.

Fuck me, these people. Imagine how much they must really want knobs out around little girls to make this much of a pretzel of themselves.

Whywhywhyyyy · 02/12/2025 18:01

Yes. The contradictions start as soon as the questions start drilling in deeper.

If people read an article regarding a poll without going and looking at the actual data points when they are conveniently linked even to the article, then perhaps they simply don't wish to work out what is truth and what they wish to believe is truth when it is very clearly and obviously not true.

Sadly, if a person wishes to remain uninformed because they choose not to read widely, there is nothing that others can do. That person will remain in a state of ignorance until they choose to look beyond their own prejudices about information and biased view.

For what it's worth, I think it won't be long before this is nothing but a bad memory,.

GG has been going for years. I believe that a change at the top is probably required, and one that will focus on what GG should be about, and not about the image of "being kind". There is too much history to be lost by one blip*.

*All be it a very odd and destabilizing blip

@Scabz you could just ask for a copy of their birth certificate as they are under 18 they cant have it falsified yet

I posted ages ago about a trans 4 year old on my waiting list for rainbows. I am extremely pleased that I now do not have to offer a place to this child. The whole thing made me extremely uncomfortable

So pleased about this for your sake @Helpwithdivorce I remember your dilemma

I didn’t. But thanks for checking!

I am one of the few voices on this post offering a different view, so I have been replying to the multiple other posts, some of which are downright nasty, so I have taken a breather.

I found it difficult to read because of all the bold shouting, and I won’t click on links, so went straight to the source of yougov, which shows that 55% of women support people to identify how they like socially. In my personal experience, it’s higher, but we only know about the people we interact with.

The vast gender critical stance is 'call yourself what you want, wear what you want and identify how you want but that sex based spaces could remain'

By that token I would support someone socially transitioning as a gender critical person - I work with a trans lady, we call her by female pronouns and refer to her as she as it is polite to do so and I wouldn't want to upset her
Doesn't mean I believe she is a woman and want to get changed in front of her at the swimming pool changing room

I went looking for it and found nothing at all, no Girl Guides pages, the one I found the last comments were from July.

ThatCyanCat · 02/12/2025 18:18

Don't you think it's interesting that for zillions of years, women were denied the vote, the right to university education, the right to stand for Parliament, the right to own property or take out loans or get a mortgage or credit card, and nobody ever asked how we would know who the women were?

But the minute men who claim to be women want in on women's spaces, suddenly it's incredibly complicated and we need court rulings and 900000 page guidance documents and a partridge in a pear tree before we even understand what a woman is.

And yet, and yet, nobody who is so confused and doesn't know what a woman is happy to have designated unisex spaces. They are adamant that single sex female spaces must exist and men must use them.

Amazing.
