I think it is . Why make this decision at a time when anti semitism is increasing?

Okay, it’s not just the headline though. It’s throughout. And she could have objected to the misrepresentation I guess?

How do you know she didn't? Anyway, she's converting I believe and despite what some weirdo on twitter says she does have some paternal Irish heritage so she has every right to identify with Judaism if that is meaningful to her.

DontCallMeLenYouLittleBollix · 07/01/2026 21:23

I haven't seen the article, so my point is only about the headline quote you cited. As a general rule, if you want to argue someone has lied about something important, do your due diligence.

Says the person who hasn’t read the article!!

From another piece, the Sunday Independent, the text not the headline —

“On the second night of Hanukkah, the Irish Jewish community gathered at Herzog Park to light the Hanukkah menorah and we were honoured to have Chaim’s granddaughter, Dr Alexandra Herzog, with us for the ceremony…
Speaking to Alexandra, I told her something I have had to say to myself many times over the past two years: “You’re Irish, too.” Irish history and identity belongs to us just as much as it belongs to the councillors who sought to erase Irish-Jewish memory.”

I don’t know. It’s odd to me anyway.
It seems a misrepresentation. Most of her readers (and publishers!) seem to think she’s Jewish. Whoever wrote that headline clearly did.

Sure. I just think she should make it clear in her published pieces that she is identifying with Judaism or an ally rather than being Jewish.

SharonEllis · 07/01/2026 21:37

Im personally far, far more concerned about the rise of antisemitism in Ireland than one person who has, by any measure made a useful contribution to the debate and exposed a lot of the nature of antisemitism along the way.

DaisyDenise · 07/01/2026 21:36

Sure. I just think she should make it clear in her published pieces that she is identifying with Judaism or an ally rather than being Jewish.

Why? She has been very explicicit on numerous occasions about the nature of her heritage and identity. Why are you fixated on that and not the substance?

Yes, I have been on a government funded travel. Its not unusual. What were the circumstances of her trip - please link a reputable source about the details.

I asked if you'd been on a FOREIGN government sponsored trip.

I've been on trips that were sponsored by my own government. Never by a foreign government though, and definitely not a foreign government that I write a lot of articles about.

OneGladPinkTraybake · 07/01/2026 21:45

SharonEllis · 07/01/2026 21:11

You said she is a Catholic. She has not been a catholic for a decade. You said her motivations are 'very, very murky' without explanation which is certainly an insinuation and you haven't provided robust evidence of the details of this trip and why its a problem.

I wasn't talking to you on this point, unless you have two accounts?

OneGladPinkTraybake · 07/01/2026 21:46

DontCallMeLenYouLittleBollix · 07/01/2026 21:16

If you go back and read the articles again it seems very strange, very discordant…’Listen to Jewish people when we tell you we are being betrayed’ (the Sunday Independent’s headline at the end Dec).

I was today years old when I learned about Rachel Moiselle, and have no idea whether she's claimed to be Jewish elsewhere or not, but she probably didn't write the headline. That's not how newspapers work.

You're correct, she didn't write the headline.

What do you mean, paternal Irish heritage? She's 100% Irish.

She claims paternal Jewish heritage though, and that is 100% not true through census records and other primary sources.

I started posting here because people in this very thread said she's Jewish.

Yes, says the person who is explicitly not commenting on something as opposed to the person who made a pretty serious inaccurate accusation! You fucked up there, own it.

DaisyDenise · 07/01/2026 21:51

I don’t follow her on social media, just read the papers. I didn’t know.
I’m not fixated. I’m surprised and as I said, it seems like a misrepresentation. And you can see things a bit differently if you’re outside a community, or even a newcomer or even someone with some heritage, rather than as someone who’s been part of a community all their lives.

For example, I often hear people in the UK or US who have Irish heritage say things about Ireland that aren’t quite right or true today. If you’re a step out from something it’s easy to not represent things properly or completely. So that’s a consideration now.

I made a mistake about the headline, yes. I didn’t realise that was written for her. I believed she was Jewish reading her newspaper articles. That wasn’t inaccurate. I’ve quoted another piece of text that shows why I thought that. I think most people reading those articles will believe her to be Jewish if they don’t know otherwise already. As I said, I don’t understand why she presents herself like this.

Does she write 'a lot' of articles about Israel? I thought she mostly wrote about antisemitism in Ireland.

SharonEllis · 07/01/2026 22:08

I guess if you wrote a lot of articles about a foreign country would it really be odd to visit that country and even be invited by that country? I mean is that 'odd' or 'murky', really? Would you bat an eyelid if we were talking about France, or Denmark , or Mauritius - jus thinking of countries than have funded visits for friends of mine who write about those countries.

SharonEllis · 07/01/2026 22:13

Bu the way still waiting for the details on this murky Israeli government trip @OneGladPinkTraybake

What you said about the headline was inaccurate- that she'd clearly portrayed herself as a member of the Jewish community, using that as an example. It is only that which I'm commenting on, not any of your other points.

For some reason you felt the need to have a dig at me because I made an entirely uncontroversial correction.

Ah now, your crack about due diligence was a bit mean considering you hadn’t read the article yourself 😂 Obviously the specific example was inaccurate, my fault, but I don’t believe saying she portrayed herself as a member of the Jewish community in the article was inaccurate.

That’s another strange response. I know you addressed the question to me but anyone can chip in with relevant information surely?
You seem to have very fixed ideas about who is or isn’t allowed to speak on an issue.

It doesn't matter what your perception of other of those people are. That guy has primary sources in the form of census information and birth certificates.

If you're going to value feelings over hard evidence, again, we're not at a place where we can have a sensible discussion.

Not at all. I just thought it seemed very odd to me. The kind of thing that you see when someone has two accounts and they forget which one they've logged into.

Very nice! Fair play. Was it work related or for some other reason?
