I think it is . Why make this decision at a time when anti semitism is increasing?

I think it's very fair to reassess what she writes, particularly when she's got quite a lot of dubious claims.

I should make it 100% clear. I'm absolutely not saying there's no antisemitism in Ireland. I have Jewish friends. I've actually been to Israel. My main concern is that Rachel's output and her reasons for doing it are very, very murky.

What is her murky motivation?

What is her murky motivation?

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs brought her to Israel on a paid trip.

I also have an issue with her speaking for Jewish people when she is not Jewish.

What is your problem with either of those things? In what sense does she speak 'for Jewish people'?

DeanElderberry · 07/01/2026 20:03

I think her motivation is that she hates Ireland. There's quite a lot of it about sometimes a relic of early 20th century conflicts, usually manifesting as 'what is wrong with this country is . . . ' letters or phone calls to radio programmes.

She has adopted a cause to hang that on, and has been confusing actual Irish Jewish people who don't recognise the world she is describing.

And I am also not denying that there is antisemitism in Ireland, a shockingly high rate of it actually going by that map, considering the Jewish population is low, but it is not the worst country in Europe.

If you don't see a problem with the first one, there's honestly no point in me continuing to respond to you.

Governments fund travel all the time. What were the circumstances of this trip? What was 'murky' about it?

OpheliaIsntMad · 07/01/2026 20:12

It’s weird how so many posters want to discredit an Irish citizen who is bringing attention to the increase in Irish antisemitism ….. whilst ignoring the horrific news report of antisemitism in Co Louth …
to discredit an Irish citizen who is trying to bring attention to the increase in Irish antisemitism.

What's actually weird is the claims that Rachel makes up about Ireland on a regular basis.

This never happened. Irish people never came out in celebration at the horrors committed on October 7th.

Well - I think it’s better to address the message rather than shoot the messenger .
i don’t think Rachel Moselle is the important story here.

Gerard Howlin: Ireland is not anti-Semitic but it’s no wonder Jewish people here feel uncomfortable

There is no space left here for either a broader perspective or nuance. There is an increasingly automatic overlapping of Jewish people with Israel

The message is extremely important, I agree.

What I'm disagreeing with is you portraying people with extremely valid concerns about Rachel as "weird".

DeanElderberry · 07/01/2026 20:44

The two very unpleasant items of graffiti in Louth were a thing that had not happened before. No one knows who painted them or why. I hope they are identified and prosecuted. But one isolated loon (or a few of them) writing random hateful comments on a rural road is not actually all that horrific.

Inappropriate yes.

I don’t know about her social media, but she has very clearly portrayed herself as a member of the Jewish community, rather than as an ally, when writing her newspaper articles.

If you go back and read the articles again it seems very strange, very discordant…’Listen to Jewish people when we tell you we are being betrayed’ (the Sunday Independent’s headline at the end Dec).

I don’t understand why she’s done this. It’s misleading and there was no need for it. Okay, it’s the message that is important but it’s just really odd.

I hope they get prosecuted too. I think all acts of racism need to be swiftly and very aggressively dealt with.

Too many people who kept their racist crap to themselves in the past have now been emboldened by Trump.

Well - maybe weird is a poor choice of word - but the claims and insinuations you have made about her seem unfair in the light of the increase in antisemitic abuse..

I wouldn’t say “Swastika symbols and words including “Jew” and “rat” “ were simply “inappropriate” …

I do think it’s horrific that this sort of abuse is being seen again in Europe.

Yes, I have been on a government funded travel. Its not unusual. What were the circumstances of her trip - please link a reputable source about the details.

You said she is a Catholic. She has not been a catholic for a decade. You said her motivations are 'very, very murky' without explanation which is certainly an insinuation and you haven't provided robust evidence of the details of this trip and why its a problem.

I was today years old when I learned about Rachel Moiselle, and have no idea whether she's claimed to be Jewish elsewhere or not, but she probably didn't write the headline. That's not how newspapers work.

She 100% did not write the headline. Even very well established journalists don't write their headlines.

The obsessive desire to find fault with this young woman is very peculiar. I know a lot of people, Jewish and not Jewish who know her and I have never heard a bad word about her. She is admired and respected in my experience, even when people don't agree with her.

Okay, it’s not just the headline though. It’s throughout. And she could have objected to the misrepresentation I guess?

DontCallMeLenYouLittleBollix · 07/01/2026 21:23

I haven't seen the article, so my point is only about the headline quote you cited. As a general rule, if you want to argue someone has lied about something important, do your due diligence.
